All, After many years of search, I am considering having a batch of NDT 1400/20 18pr tires manufactured. I am aware that NDCC tires are about but for any wartime vehicle they just don't look quite right, and with the new 10 year tire rule, nearly all this size tire are over this age. For those who are not aware the NDT have a square edge to the tire and NDCC have the more rounded edge. Just trying to gauge an expression of interest at this stage. These tires are not going to be cheap, but obviously the more interest I can get the price will come down. Jon H

film/book review Classic Military Vehicle 184 Sept 16
hickjc replied to Bob Grundy's topic in MV Chatter
Did you just write what you wanted to write about or ask what they would like articles on? I just said is there anything you would like an article on, and they have all been published so far. I guess you will never please everyone, I have not had Windscreen in a while because I dropped out of the MVT and did not miss it,, I found the endless articles about the wiring on some rare radio based lightweight Land Rover rather dull. In my view a magazine like this should now be mainly filled with peoples experiences, photos of a trip they went on, show reports etc. The details of the vehicle's themselves have been done to death!! Unless it is a one off or something very unusual. You can do articles on individuals and their collections or vehicle, but people are always reserved about doing this, as not wanting to appear to show off!! KR J -
film/book review Classic Military Vehicle 184 Sept 16

For a magazine like this to survive in what is a relatively niche hobby, it needs the people who are in it to contribute a bit. I bought the first issue of both CMV and Military Machines and most issues after that, but at the end of the day there are only so many subjects that can be written about. I have often thought that they could reprint an article from the early 2000's and would I remember reading it the first time round? The task of filling a monthly magazine like this and keeping it interesting is enormous!! I have personally written a few articles recently - you may have thought they were complete rubbish, but most of them took no more than a couple of evenings to write, I am too busy really but I just thought if no one bothers then there will never be any content. Some 'Characters' have been in the hobby a long time, some make their living from it, give a bit back and spend some time to write something......... KR Jon -
for sale 8.25x20 chevron run flat tires for White Half track.
hickjc posted a topic in HMVF Classifieds
I have 2 no. 8.25x20 chevron pattern, used but they have quite a lot of tread left and are run flats. I have only changed them myself as I should have been using 900x20. £100 each plus P&P or collection from WV15 5HP Jon Hickman jonhickman@hotmail.co.uk 07818420678 -
I have 4 900x20 bar grips, they have quite a lot of tread but do have some cracks in the side walls. They are Bridgstones and come without wheels. I have only changed them myself as I want a square edged tyre. £80 plus P&P or collection from WV15 5HP Jon Hickman jonhickman@hotmail.co.uk 07818420678

wanted a M20 armoured car any condition considered
hickjc replied to monty2's topic in American Vehicles
I think there is only one in the UK, you will need to look to Europe or the US. They come up in the US fairly regularly, don't get put off by the shipping it's all fairly simple. Jon -
8 pr, originated on a Rio I would think. regards Jon

£114 k for the half track seems very high, but it was a very nice example and now tracks are available they are much more attractive. The half track is also one of the most iconic Allied vehicles of WW2.

heads up: for sale! 1943 Sherman M4A1 Grizzly I Cruiser
hickjc replied to MatchFuzee's topic in Heads Up: For Sale!
If the price is way off, then the auction house will always approach the higest bidder to see if they would be willing to pay the reserve and therefore a deal can be done. The seller may of course also lower the reserve. Sometimes if it is just under, let's say it had been 147k, then the auctioneer can use his discretion to sell it anyway, below the reserve. Quite often they will then lower their fee to ensure the seller gets the same amount as they would have done had it reached the reserve. -

It was £100k plus commission, so £112k total price. Reserve I presume was bottom estimate which was 150k. -

For those who are interested it made 100k and was provisionally sold. And by comparison, a professionally restored 86 Inch Series 1 made £35,500 plus 12% commission, £39,750!!! -

Reserve is normally bottom estimate, don't reckon it will make it. -
I think that the huge increase in prices in the MV market was actually to do with abnormally low interest rates, and the returns people were getting on their savings. I think the same effect has been felt on the classic car market for the same reason. If you had savings in the bank and your only getting a 0.5% return, you think, what the hell, I am going to buy myself the vehicle I have always wanted (you persuade you wife its a good idea), then when you need your money back you think you can just sell it again. This surplus cash/savings in people pockets fuelled the increase in values, then as values increase people think they are investments, further fuelling the problem. Then when everyone has spent all their savings, the buyers dry up, the crash will be when interest rates go back up and people need to put the cash back in the bank or they get old and need the cash to pay for retirement and care. Then there is a glut of vehicles for sale and prices will drop. Prices have perhaps not dropped but they have levelled out, the drop will come in a few years when people need their savings to live. The same thing has applied to the 'buy to let' market, the average return on a buy to let in the UK is 6.1%, before you take out your costs. A few years ago you could pretty much earn that with your money just sitting in the bank. The fact you cannot do that now has made a buy to let more attractive, increasing demand, prices and the shortage of homes for those who want to buy their own....etc etc. Now we are all so hooked on cheap borrowing, the road back to normality is so painful we could be stuck here forever!! hahaha! I actually met a guy last year, who was fed up not earning anything on his savings, he had spent nearly all his savings buying a pair of vintage shotguns, the ones he had always dreamed of. He said 'their a great investment and worst case scenario when I need my money back I can just sell them, but a least I can say I owned a pair and why not'. I just thought to myself, Ok whatever! The final point is of course one that has been around for ever, things are always easy to buy and difficult to sell!!
