  1. Hi Managed to get the MUNGA MOT'ed and taxed over the weekend, at long last! The chap at the local garage (large national chain), did not know were to start ! What's a transmission brake? Why do the brake lights flash to show direction? Why no stop lamps etc when the lights switch is not turned on? Were are the seat belts? What do you mean it's two stroke, and I can't test the emissions? Why can't you make it two wheel drive, I can't test it on the rolling road? Priceless!!!! Well next thing to get sorted is the series two FFR Landrover. That and make sure that Trish does not use the MUNGA to death before I get to drive it!
  2. have a look at a site called "luft46". :-o
  3. Hello Good see that I am not the only Iltis owner ! I drove one in Germany, on exchange. Had a friend who had one, so when this one came up I grabbed it. Needs a fair bit of work, the last owner painted in yellow with house gloss and big dirty brush! He also let it get a bit rusty and shot the gearbox as well! :-o The idea is to get it sorted once I have one of the MUNGA's on the road, and my short wheel FFR ready again. I did take a friends Iltis to a local rally many years ago, and was told it was a kit car! And that VW never made a military vehicle post war. And I know how you feel about the VW clubs, mine don't want to know me. It's fun with the MUNGA, as everyone thinks that it's an Audi due to the four rings! I have spent hours explaning to people about the Auto Union. Have fun and don't get too much sun.
  4. Hello again all. Thanks for the welcome. I wonder if anyone is close to me the large and fair county of Devon, I am in Plymouth? The work thing is getting in the way at the moment, plus the mad dog (retired sniffer springer) takes up a lot of time! But bits have arrived for the brakes on the MUNGA that's closest to MOT etc, so that's next job on. And the bits are also here for the RL, so that's got to get done! Berni, I have seen some of your posts on WW2 forum. My lady is very much into the post war uniform bits, mainy WRAC and QA. If I can help anyone with info please fire away. My job is radio (MOD and blue light), and ex-REME. Have fun and don't get too much sun.
  5. Hi The problem is that if you have a 6 volt vehicle, you don't need to lose much to stop things working! What you can do is use a switch which is at the battery terminal, or a quick disconnect terminal. These can be found in caravan and camping shops, or in some car supply factors. The other thing is to be 110% sure that the electrics are righ on the vehicle. make sure the regulator is set righ, and that all the connections are clean and tight. Don't forget any braids from the chassis to the engine/gearbox. If in any doubt replace with bigger ones! I have got 6 volt vehicles to work ok with remote kill switches, but it's a lot of work.
  6. All the vehicles that we have fitted in work have the "kill" switch in the chassis line. So negative if that is your chassis connection. This is done so that you don't have a live end floating about should the wire come off the switch. I know it sounds a bit odd, but it works fine that way. Try to keep all the wire short and as heavy as possible. It's possible to lose a lot of volts across a 10m/m cable a foot long when starting.
  7. Anyone with either of these vehicles on this forum? Do we have any experts on these?
  8. Hi Been playing with green vehicles for more years than I can shake a stick at. I have at the moment Bedord RL, Humber 1 ton cargo, Landrover Mk8 FFR, landrover Mk8 cargo, MUNGAx2, VW iltis. Still much to do on some of these, but with house move etc it's been a bit slow. My job is as a radio engineer, and I did this for REME for some years. So I will try and answer any questions anyone may have on that subject.
  9. Ian Have a look and see if the VIN plate has been fixed with pop rivets, these should be nice and old and dirty by now. As the VIN and census plates tally, it does seem odd that it's not LHD! If the vehicle is at Bill's over the weekend I will have a look, as I have to go and have a bit of a play with my FFR. Give me a ring on Friday evening if you like. Andy
  10. Ian If the hardtop has no windows, and the window in the raer door looks like it may have been painted over, taped over, or covered in some way it may be that the vehicle carried cryto gear. Most FFR's of that period would have had Clansman kit, but what was fitted would be depenpent on role. Have a good look to see if it's a civvy hardtop, made to make a softtop a bit less cold and wet.
  11. Ian I have some 700x16, high ply which are road pattern tred. These are new, but have been fitted with new tubes to other wheels. If there any good to you About £30 for a pair. But you need to collect from Cornwall Devon border.
