  1. With Daily Mail in the sentence that should be enough to know that its plain gossip. They should have red banner behind 'Daily Mail' and join the rest of the red rags

  2. The RB gets better the more I drive it haven't a clue what the mpg is, it starts first time and runs great. Haven't had any wheelies out of it but it does go... brilliant piece of kit. Brakes had to stomp hard on them this past weekend when a clown pulled out on me, it braked in a straight line so I agree thats sorted.

  3. Okay lads! cost per pennant is 15 pounds. They are happy to do up something for H4H too.

That 15 pds is for a swallow tailed pennant.

Could you put up the pictures again the pictures have decided that they don't want to appear

  4. Having had a go at off loading some of my kit at Malvern I can suggest a good way of making it a little cheaper for anyone who wants to have a go. Split the bill between two of you, each have one side of the stall for you're rubbi sorry kit. A pitch that costs £50 is then split between two of you making it easier to start making money and getting rid off some of the bits that you have (ex Withams stuff in my case).

If tables are available do rent them for the duration and do plan some kind of layout and pricing structure. Don't be inflexible on you're prices either you want to go home with as little as possible!

Plus you might get in the good books with the missus and make a profit! As we all know the good books bit only lasts as long as the cash

  5. I'm certainly not "blackening" his name. As I said in the original post, what he does with his vehicle is down to him. Also good luck to him for his intentions in raising money, again well done. However the board he had clearly stated it was a Snatch. If he had a board with words such as, "This is a REPLICA of the Snatch Land Rover as used in Northern Ireland" then I certainly see no problem. Unfortunately I didn't get a photo of the board.

Yes he has done a good job of it. It certainly made me walk all the way across a field to have a look at it. Have a look at the inside cover of Windscreen, it clearly states in the description that it's a 1988 "Snatch" Land Rover. Well sorry, but it's not...

Magazines do cock up and accidentally miss words out, have a look at this months CMV on one of the first pages you will find a correction to a previously titled picture / owner of a vehicle. These things happen as we all know the editor of Windscreen might only have had a small amount of space and to many words / characters.

Its not a bad looking job

  6. We're probably not helping whoever wants to buy it from Withams tender, but what an interesting vehicle!

Easy to fabricate a new wing and source a new headlight!

I've never seen any other Ferrets with Macrolon screens still fitted - are they real? - surely very unusual to have them still fitted on release in, let's say, the mid to late eighties.

From the photos, it looks like the data plate has been there a while!

    Peter,

    Ferret Mk 2/3, 03 CC 42

Suspect that the data plate is an original its smaller than the later style of plates

  7. our ferret is 33BA64 and has been kept as early Mk1 spec. it was used in hong kong for most of its life and returned to ludgershall in 1972. I'd love to see a 2/3 ferret in preservation with its northern ireland additions on. I cant recall ever seeing one on the show circuit like this, I have however seen a couple in as released condition in the old east of england tank museums yard

I've got one of them 08bb48

  8. Comparing the photo on Withams site and the one taken in Boys unit the Ferret appears to have sufffered some damage to the front offside corner between times .

I think it was damaged before it got to Withams. I just about remember looking at it with Matt. Even took a few pictures except mine are completely out off focus, I blame my mobile phone camera ;)

  11. you bobby dazzler ! nice one, i hadn't realised jack had got the blasting done this week :D all we need now is for colin to nail a bit of armour on and we're up and running, martyn's got the engine running sweet and the gearbox is also done now, so i'd best get me finger out me arse and get a rad from somewhere and i can get it moving under it's own steam. happy days !!!

    eddy/rick

ps for those that are wondering why bob called me rick, it's actually my real name, eddy 8men was my old army nickname, but you can call me anything as long as it's not dick

Looked good when I saw it this morning!

  12. I'm sad to say that most museums don't share that view they see them as a colossal drain on there funds. And as we know at this point in time the country has no money.

Crying shame really you would have thought that we had learned a lesson with the passing of some of the larger wartime ships that have been passed to other countries.

  13. I'm still hoping to get some artefacts, but what an impressive view it would be to have something like this next to a potential future museum...

  14. Probably not, I don't think the usual suspects for using old kit -India and Pakistan has any, certainly Pakistan use MG3 for heavy support weapon.

I think that 1968 date for last service in the British Army is an admin. date for the withdrawal of British forces from Borneo, where Vickers were retained for base defence by special forces.

The last official use by regular infantry was by Guards battalions probably few used after Suez

    Steve

    Thanks for the info Steve

I do remember seeing an army display which had a Vickers on display in Sale town centre, it must have been mid eighties. Long time ago.

I also recall something an the news about the Army recreating a 1st WW1 machine gun section 1990's?
