1. Sold some goodies and came back with very little hurray says the missus met Rick (eddie8men) and also saw lofty from Eastenders (many moons ago) probably the last time I watched the program.

Plenty of people not many wanted to part with the pennies. But came back reasonably happy and only bought a few things

We took the RB44 down so if you saw it in the car park... managed to spill coffee all over the mat missus not happy

  2. I haven't a clue what this is in the back of this RB44 so a few pics for you to have a crack at identifying what it is. Missile reloads or mortar tubes?

Sorry the Sun yes I said Sun has made the pics a bit bright where I wouldn't want it to be can't complain too much as it was a good day.

  3. Photos for the mortor stowage bits.

Also ideal shed for Saladin wheel, though you need the bionic man to help you up with it :)

    Andy

Thanks for the pictures the bionic man would look at that Saladin wheel and think easy and do himself an injury

  4. Saxon personel carriers there were 3 saxons on OTA from 1996

Surprisingly they 2 were soon removed form the range and scrapped

That last picture of the Saxon hull wouldn't be a great moral booster for troops still having to use them on ops

  5. Spoke with terry till from the MVT today . he confirmed he has spoken to the DVLA Policy dealing with my case , They confirmed to him that they didnt want tracked MV's Running on the roads . This is been brought up at there next committee meeting in November .

As I have only been a member of the MVT for the past 6 months I have no experience on how the MVT handle affairs but hope that they dont take DVLA's actions lightly . As the Main association for MV's I would like to see them take on DVLA to protect all Military vehicle owners.

The DVLA saying that they don't want tracked MV's running on the road has to backed up with a good explanation of why they don't want them on the road and the criteria that they base that on. Just saying 'WE' as civil servants don't want them on the road isn't good enough. Its good to hear that MVT have been just as concerned about this development.

I still think that they 'r' basing this development on the wrong vehicle and that they require clarification to help them. Do it the right way without upsetting anyone and its more likely to have a better outcome for you and the MV hobby.

  6. Headlamps cannot be more than 400mm from outside edge of headlamp to extreme of bodywork(any vehicle built after 1972) , I doubt that stormer complies.

Do we know date of first use of this Stormer? if first use is before 1st April 1986 or build date is before 1st Oct 1985, front marker lights cannot be more than 510mm from edge of body work, or 400mm if built after 1st Oct 1985.

Surely the positions of the lights can be altered to enable the vehicle to comply. If the DVLA have used the wrong model or vehicle type as there example of why it can't comply that would be the owners perogative to challenge them. Would the freedom of information act enable Dan to find out where the DVLA have got there info from.

  7. Hi, looking to book my new toy in for its first MOT this week. Anyone any idea what the weight is? Nothing in any manual. Withems web site says 3050 kgs, the dodge50 fourum mentions 2050 kgs.

The data plate may as well not be there for all the information it gives.

  8. Hi Griff, it made sense last night:blush:! My point was to be that the thread was going off on a tangent regarding test exemption, but I do not believe this to be relevant to a discussion about the LEZ since it is not a criterion for exemption.

Members of HMVF are predominantly interested in vehicles as items of historical value to display at shows and enjoy driving in a non-commercial context. Therefore we must consider the types of vehicles which are exempted:

    - Anything petrol is exempt.

    - Anything diesel under 1.205 tonnes is exempt.

    - Anything registered Historic (pre-1973) is exempt.

    - Anything in the following list of exempt vehicle types is exempt.

Vehicles designed and built for mainly off-road use, but which may be used on the road for limited purposes, including:

    - Agricultural and forestry tractors

    - Mowing machines

    - Agricultural and farm machinery and equipment

    - Mobile cranes

    - Road and building construction machinery Historic vehicles (built before 1 January 1973)

Military vehicles [when in crown use]

Almost anything diesel powered, over 1.205 tonnes, post-1963 and correctly registered is condemned.

RB44 sadly appears to meet all of these criteria.

On a tangent of my own: collectors of historic vehicles are unfortunately becoming caught up in these bits of legislation because of the lack of a rolling 25-year historic vehicle class. Currently a vehicle must be over 37 years old to qualify. It is probably safe to say that the vast majority of collector's vehicles are over 25 years old; in complement to this, the vast majority of 25 year old vehicles are owned by collectors and are thus not used on a daily basis (except by a few masochists) nor are they used commercially. I would suggest that there are a number of vehicle taxation-related problems and loopholes which could be addressed by reverting to a rolling 25-year Historic class, including that of the LEZ affecting collectors' vehicles.

    - MG

Somewhere along the way all vehicles will eventually be 'historic' and to say that only pre 1960's vehicles and WW2 vehicles are wanted seems a bit ahem. Life and production lines didn't stop at the end of the war.

The legislation that we have has become unnecessarily complicated making it difficult for the ordinary person to own a heavier commercial style of vehicle without falling foul of some piece of law rule or whatever. It isn't helped when Vosa the DVLA and the like say one thing and then change there tune at the drop of a hat.

If we don't have some sort of rolling exemption the vehicles being released now won't exist in anything like the numbers of the pre 1960's vehicles. As it is we don't see enough WW2 British vehicles at shows.

  9. Rob,

It looks like your Ferret has had a fairly easy life!

17 Rear Vehicle Depot (RVD) BAOR - Recklinghausen, Germany - one of the large RAOC vehicle storage depots

16 BND - pass! Check the scan that Bovington sent you (16 Base Vehicle Depot (BVD), Olen, Belgium?)

Vehicle Depot (VD), Ludgershall - another massive storage depot in Wiltshire, home of many Ferrets over the years!

Queens Division Depot, Bassingbourn, Cambridgeshire - former RAF base and home to the B17 'Memphis Belle' in WW2, it was the Queens Division Depot from 1970 - 1993. I'm wondering if your Ferret was a Gate Guardian - if so, other forum members may be able to tell you more, but there should be lots of pictures of it on the gate!

Welcome to the world of Ferrets!

Its the Ferret from one of the recent Withams sales and recently on epay. I have a few more pictures from the sale and I might have the lot number somewhere as well.

    Happy Ferreting!!
