1. I have just seen this on the Manchester MVT Facebook website is this correct? I thought we (in the UK) had cornered the market for stupid legislation? I'm being flippant not political

To all members who go to events in France.Be aware that its now law that all vehicles must carry a breathalyser. It is a 17 euro fine for a first category offence.

  2. If stainless was a superior material , I can only wonder why the MOD didn't use stainless? I agree with sirhc that it would be a better material to use but there must be some reason they didn't use it - doubt it would be cost as that doesnt appear to be the biggest priority for the MOD (ok , maybe nowadays it is :)) . When you look at the overall cost of a vehicle I doubt a stainless exhaust would have added much cost

These exhausts will be about £270 so they are not expensive on the grand scheme of things. Stainless would add quite a bit to that price.

Stainless steel has come to the fore more as classic cars have become more available and we have more leisure time. Classic cars are used mainly in the summer. In regards to the MOD (War Department as was) mild steel might have been the easiest and the most convenient and the conventional way of supplying exhausts to vehicles circa 1950.

I installed a stainless steel exhaust on my MGB GT when I had that, I bet the car is still fitted with it.

    £270 is a great price

  3. Stainless steel would have been better but its great in many respects that someone wants to have a go at making the exhaust and center bin. You have to commend them for that. It would be better if J.C. would join the forum and sell the things himself.

The only thing that you have to worry about in regards to the exhaust is if the side wall of the muffler/exhaust box is thick enough to stop the exhaust resonating.

  4. Thanks for the "translation" - another question - My Ferret seems to be missing the center box on the right side (facing foward) Theres no visible attachment points on the escape hatch for the box - is this another version/mod?

    IMG_2521.jpg

    IMG_2090.jpg

Yep its another mod it at least saves you from having to buy or have a bin fabricated.

  5. Good day met quite few members from here and yes its mostly deac's, munitions, uniform and jeep spares.

I suspect that the pitch might include the hire of tables. If you fancy selling at Stoneleigh / Malvern etc the best way to do it is to share the pitch with a friend, I have done it myself at Malvern. Its a great way off getting rid of some of the assorted Withams junk from the tender sales.

  6. Is that working for you Andy? Just downloaded a load of xml.

    Matt

    Hi Matt,

It seems to be working you do need Microsoft Excel to see it. I have uploaded it here as well

  7. I was in Bulwark mess at HMS Ganges, I wonder if that was Bulwark? She was converted to a Commando Carrier.

It might be a Centaur class of carrier as the Aircraft are DH Venoms which would make it middle 50's onwards. The carrier in the film doesn't seem to have a very noticeable angled flight deck. Which would also say Centaur class, My three pennies worth

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centaur_class_aircraft_carrier

HMS Hermes is still in service with the Indian Navy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Hermes_(R12)

  8. Andy

You are doing a really good job with the website, seems to get better and better !

I was thinking of selling my ferret , then I looked through some of the pics on your site and realised

I would never be able to buy anything like it for the money - so its staying :D ........ ( until I discover a

£7000 stug....... , when it would just have to go...) On the basis that that may not happen , the ferret rules !

    Jim

If you see two Stugs for that ballpark figure let me know and I'll sell the missus into slavery (I'm only kidding Janine).

  9. Jim (Fugly) had a look through Bovingtons Ferret album and didn't find a picture off 06cc27. That doesn't mean that a picture doesn't exist it just means that it isn't in the Ferret album. Could be in any of the armoured vehicle albums.

Jim sent me the list of Ferrets that he had recorded the reg for happy to email if Jim doesn't mind or cant find himself. I had started to add the list to my register pages just didn't finish it.

  10. I guess I should say right here and now that if any Ferret website owner would like to lift any of these tear down pictures for their website, they are free to do so as long as I get a photo credit and some credit is given to HMVF.

    R

    Hi Robin,

I wouldn't half inching a few pictures I've managed to delete my fluid flywheel pictures at some point in the last couple of months :banghead: Class is all I'm going to say.

  11.

I might try to stamp in the wording, but I'll have a think about that and maybe do some trialling, if I can find a set of 1/4" number stamps.

    Jack

Decals are flimsy its just a case of being careful with them when you put them on and using compatible paints to achieve the best results. I wouldn't stamp the switchboard it won't look right.

    http://www.ferret-fv701.co.uk/switchboardtext.doc

History wise you should be able to get that from the austin champ owners club (www.austinchamp.com)

  12. Yooooou luuuucky..............:iamsmiling:

I know the previous owner works at the same place as my better half Janine, he saw the RB44 and decided he would offer them to me :D All he wanted was enough money to buy a decent size shed.

Andy the wooden furniture looks way too clean.

You need some "authentic" stenciled number on the butt! The SLRs in most units had braille scale sized stencil numbers on them from what my memory banks have on file.

    R

Plastic or wooden butt? I'll leave alone I'll only spoil it

  13. I know someone who has a blacking tank to redo the finish (non technical talk here) on guns. He was tempted to redo the finish on one of his guns (firearms dealer) he did it but would never do it again as all the wear marks had been removed from the finish leaving the general knocks and bangs still present on the woodwork and steel. Not pretty plus it lowered the value of the gun.

Finish wise it looks fine and for me has character and history that a factory finished example would not have.
