At least if we post a lot whilst they are away
We can out rank them before they get back :-D
-
It's a bit quiet in here this week as a lot went over to Normandy
One of the mv club guys should have an answer

We had a severe hailstorm go through a country town called Kalgoorlie in Australia, years ago. Given it was in the desert most the cars were on the streets.
It took 3 years for the insurance companies to catch up with the car repairs. With the numbers you are talking I wonder what they will do.
-
Well I got nothing exciting to add.... been travelling
Maybe should change this thread name to the Dirty Desperate Dozen :-D
PS Robin I saw the shed is being planned, any updated pictures?

Welcome... an interesting find. To post photos you have to decrease the sizes... or pm one of us and we can do that for you

Ok so just need to find a guy with a tilt bed and can speak French.
Did you drive or get someone to deliver it on a flatbed?

Is there any issues about bringing a donor vehicle/wreck from France to UK to be cut up as spares?
Trying to buy this bucket of rust to use parts for mine http://www.leboncoin.fr/utilitaires/254734853.htm?ca=12_s
On that note, I really need someone who speaks French to contact him. For some reason he don't want to talk Aussie English.
Then a truck coming back with it :-D

Anyone know of any regulations regarding the disposal of abrasive blasting waste?
I would have thought if using an inert material, like garnet then it is only a HSE concern if removing a hazardous coating like leaded paint.
-
I have always been put off Leboincoin by my lack of French - I studied German at school and worked in Germany for a while so should have got interested in mogs Does one just click the "Envoyer un email" link and try to compose a message with the help of google translate ?
70% never reply. Online translators offend them :nut:
If they do respond most are helpful. Ebay France generally is good as everyone is locked in.
For French Vehicle rebuilds this place is useful for pictures etc http://www.avem86forum.com/
hopefully the 12v diagram is attached

Of the scrap man doing something this year ?
you are most likely right:
- Coma who apparently confirmed they have 2 Acmat 6x6 wrecks but then don't respond, to anyone http://www.coma-rene-metaux.fr/
- This one never leaves Leboncoin http://www.leboncoin.fr/utilitaires/254 ... tm?ca=16_s I don't think he really wants to sell it
very frustrating month.
Is this antenna mount Sumb? As I have not seen it one on an Acmat http://www.leboncoin.fr/collection/657627134.htm?ca=16_s
Does anyone know the current rating of typical diesel heater plugs? This engine is a Volvo (Volkswagen) D24T similar to that in the Pinzgauer TD I think. The relay I bought is good for 200A but the existing wire looks a bit thin (2.5mm sq I think). What is the current rating of the starter motor solenoid ? I bought a new ignition key switch rated at 8 amps - will I need a relay ?
I can send you the wiring diagram for a TD Pinzgauer. Just don't order anything with 'Pinzgauer' in the parts names as they are completely different from the Volvo/VW D24.......................................................in price

OH MY, My heart goes out to that poor owner. So much work and sweat and money, poof all gone , and practically has to start the restoration all over again . Even if the outfit transporting the engine had insurance coverage and it paid the owner of the engine , could it be restored ?
yep ditto, that would be devastating

On a more serious note, I opened a tin of paint stripper on the weekend and when the inner seal came off it exploded off with a huge bit hitting my face millimetres from my eyeball. The can had not been in the sun.
One of those 5 minute jobs that could have ended badly
-
Most of mechanical work is fairly easy if you have patience, can read a book and ask questions (I guess that's a patience thing also).
If you cannot weld, don't buy a rust bucket, so if a fridge magnet don't stick to rust trap areas be suspicious :-D

Mike
Thanks - I will be interested in the mirror holders if (OK let us be optimists - when) you get them back to the UK. I fitted Hymer motor caravan mirrors on my previous SUMB as I appreciated the better vision when driving - the original small SUMB mirrors were only good directly behind.
Iain
yep here's hoping as nearly a week has gone by after my last reminder
I am in Paris at the end of June, I wonder if the missus will understand a burning need to go to a junkyard in the South West of France :-D

Just saw this on an Australian news site
Australian woman’s mission to reunite a mysterious World War II photo album with its Italian owner
A worthy task
-
Found a good (if not cheap) new source of the 2 Pin 200A slave/jumpstart connectors to replace the one missing from the new SUMB

They are also available via e-Bay as items 111070807509 and 111072349939 which is how I found them - ordered on Sunday and arrived today (Tuesday) very well packed. The actual items are made in China and branded Erich Jaeger GMBH if that helps anyone.
That's really interesting as I have the inter-vehicle cable and I didn't want the cut the ends off to make a separate jumper lead set. With my Pinzgauer I had the Bosch 24v electric wheel spanner (never should of sold that).
I see nearly all the French trucks have the same light switch as saw one listed as surplus of a trm 2000 yesterday.
'If' I get my spare cab you can have the wing mirror mounts (if you want them) as saw at least one in the photo of the wreck. I just hope I can actually buy the wreck...... It is for sale, we know the price but finalizing the deal is measured in glacial flow velocities. Even flashing cash in front of the scrapyard dealer doesn't invoke any increase in speed. The xmod has new mirrors or you can have my old ones if you feel like a challenge.

yes very fine work.........
-
Any more pictures mate.
yes of the 9/16ths socket
I found my 7mm spanner after two years, it was a tearful reunion
-
Still digging around for parts. The wings arrived after such a long time and a lot of nagging of the courier. The only humorous part was he asked for some extra cash as he said they were heavy. My understanding was he was politely told to sod off.
Another box of parts posted to the UK today from http://a403.idata.over-blog.com/1/89/45/26/JR-PECRON-NOUVEAU-CONCESSIONNAIRE/VLRA1-JRP.jpg
Finally I am trying to purchase this from a junkyard in France which is seemingly harder than getting teeth pulled.
If anyone lives in South West France maybe they can go knock on the door....:-D. Will need to find a truck to bring it back at some point
-
that will stand out at Tesco's
What engine does it have in it now?
-
Spotted this one in Istanbul
Is that at the main museum in central? Going over for a trip in a few weeks so was going to have a look

Other than the redundancy aspect, dual plugs mean that the fuel/air mixture is burned up faster because you have 2 flame fronts crossing the cylinder and meeting somewhere in the middle rather than having one flame front that has got to cross the entire cylinder. Not only does this mean more of the bang is happening when the conrod and crankshaft are at the most favourable angle, it also means that the flame is less likely to go out before finishing the task. Such partial burns are common at part throttle - wasting fuel, which either gets lost out the exhaust or down the cylinder sides.
Of course, you could achieve a similar effect with a single plug, by placing it in the middle of the combustion chamber - easy on a 2 stroke, harder on a 4 valve 4 stroke.
On another note - I know it is said that some early meteors were rebuilt merlins, but what we appear to have here is a meteor becoming a merlin...
trevor
Damn i feel old as i had to learn radial and merlin theory back when i first started out working...
the other reason for 2 plugs i.e. additional to above is to prevent detonation of the fuel as when the flame front progresses it can compress the remaining vapour which detonates instead of the desired controlled bang on the crown of the piston.
When we did a mag check and cut one they would still run but a lot rougher. I would think the original intent was redundancy and the other benefits were learned over a short time as aerospace engines changed dramatically in such a small time frame

yep keep the good cheer up....
NOS what does it mean?
in I may be stupid, but......

Have you been well packed?
