Well this perhaps expains that resurrection of the export permit on mil vehicles going on holidays etc you guys have to deal with now.
The HM Customs guys most likely got a b****** and they ressurect a 1942 law!
So perhaps he should spend a few more years in prison as if it is part of the reason then he messed it for everyone

Think i'd have done the same :-D , , no i think it would be insane to drive one of these back from Malaysia To England in this day and age  once upon a time you could have ( fairy tales ) go on tept me how much would a pinz be in Malaysia :-D
Actually shipping aint that bad. I posted a few finds (other vehicles) in the scrapyard bit as we helped get some back to UK http://www.shropshiregunbus.co.uk/
They are currently overhauling 3
This is the UK look

At this point, well as of 4 weeks ago got up to this point. Basically focused on the aesthetic at this point as we were originally having to have it painted before doing the ownership paperwork but that was overcome. Once the body is pretty much back together we are starting on the mechanicals.
Still negotiating a chunk of odd parts that will take ages to incorporate, but I guess a lot of the fun is the tinkering.

,, what needs doing to it ? ?
As I had two I just about got everything, but I am a point where I may be getting a few other odd bits off another variation I want on mine so more work
A couple of coats of Light Stone paint. with the intention of mimicking the MOD Pinzgauers in Iraq/Afghanistan.
Reminds me anyone do vehicle stencils???? For tyre pressure etc??

Hi thats a great looking pinz , these seem to cost quite a bit of money over here , great offroad for getting over moorland , ,, yours looks like a good one ,, what needs doing to it ? does it have the vw 5 cylinder turbo diesel engine ?
Mine is a P90 although made in '93 so has the non intercooled 6 cylinder diesel (still VW/Volvo/Mercedes). The models are P80, P90 and P93 from Austria in the diesels.
6 of these went to UK:)

Ripping it apart

So after much anquish, frustration and thinking to give up I was offered another one.
So I did what any sane person would do and bought it......
-
That looks to be in very good condition, how old is it?
'93 model, last of the 'real' Pinzgauers, well from Austria Steyr Puch

Unfortunately due to paperwork and bureaucracy I was banging my head against the wall regarding this vehicle as the plods in suits kept insisting it did not exist .
-
After doing some searches I found very little on Pinz's in here so I thought you would enjoy my rebuild to date (with the usual trials and tribulations:cry:).
I bought this in January '09

Quatam physics :coffee:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-powered_lighting I had to think about it for a bit, Trilux is created by Tritium. Has a halflife of 12.36 years

With radiation there is 2 aspects..
- radiation exposure (off the top of my head you are allowed as civis 2.5 microSV/hour) if the dials emit more than that you have a problem. Thats at where you would be sitting not the dial as the closer you get the higher the reading even low strength looks high if you put the meter on it as inverse square law rule. This is further why the girls licking the brushes had issues as contact with skin is obviously the highest dose level. Exposure biggest concern is gamma output in Sv
- radiactive contamination, is the more serious concern as we are talking about particulate matter which can lodge in your body and emit. Gamma is a problem but Alpha is much more problematic internally. A lot of military alloys such as Thorium magnesium are also radioactive..... seeing UH-1 helecopter engines sectioned in museums make me wonder... so the advice dont open them or sniff the dust is good advice
main problem is most 'safety' or 'inspectors' dont know anything about radiation and possibly a small issue becomes a big issue, for nothing. If you have even been injected with radiactive dye for xrays... you will emit over the legal limit for about 8 hours

Mike now that sounds familiar, I think we have spoken before either email or some other forum?
The chances are it would have been about Pigs or Shorlands!
Clive
yep pigs, most likely on Lightweight forum. Still haven't seen one in a yard only the museum. I tracked down the story on the SIMBAS armoured vehicle but the trail went cold 2 years ago.
The Pinz is in final stages of repaint....... finally, have rego, tax, insurance etc

and this one was in a Landrover breakers yard in the UK
-
i forgot about the fire trucks

G'Day,
I'm an Aussie in Malaysia.
I rebuilt a Lightweight in the UK last year and shipped it to Aus and did a crosscountry trip. Being based in Malaysia I have been scrumaging around junk yards here to find a project.
As a result I find the odd bit of interesting stuff which I post on different forums, in case someone wants something. Not a dealer, just someone with crazy urges when seeing a nice bit of camo.
I am currently rebuilding a Pinz

Crikey. You are right! i would not have noticed unless you had pointed it out.
Tim (too)
yep the only military contract and last was to Malaysia. Diesel ones... We threw some diffs in a sea container a few months ago.
Apologies I was bleary eyed last night. The jeeps are KM410 derivitives, the white polis wagon is an Iveco and some Volvo C303's.
The Roman Brasov's are around 96 era.

I don't want to start a avalance of vitriol on this guy, he even perhaps is a nice bloke, I am just curious at the timing as this export permits for ex mil vehicles has been resurrected, my guess as a knee jerk to this.
He did break the law, so whatever our nice part of our brain may think he should get whatever the punishment is. As you have pointed out the whole problem the higher up the food chain you get the less likely they will get 'busted'.
So if he didn't get punished people would be saying how come 'is he different, special'.
Overseas corruption is rampant, I recall an UK exec getting busted for supplying Land Rovers to government officials in a dusty land to get preferential contracts. The vehicles were replacement for crashed ones, the catch was the wrecked ones were always the same vehicle with the plates changed.
Everyone knew about it but I guess he annoyed someone one day and the company held him out to dry.
