  1. I would think so. if its in good condition it will probably still be used. A bit like a farmer which uses WW2 jerrycans for his tractor.
  2. I am into WW2 vehicles, HOWEVER I also like postwar ones. I agree post war vehicles are being looked at as being "inferior"or whatever. They are also worthwhile and have lots of history to those who served or fought in them. Guess WW2 has mor of a "romantic" appeal to them. About WW2 vehicles and actual combatuse? I agree lots never been used in the fighting. Also a reason why there are relatively many late war Dodges or early 1/2 ton Dodges around is simple. Late war couldn't have seen much action and 1/2 ton Dodges (also early Jeeps-training) stayed in the US while 3/4 ton Dodges went to war. My WC 21 came to Europe in the late 40's.I presume it served in the war in the US. No markings were left and no history of this vehicle was to be found. Guess 1 big reason why I like Beltring is to meet people with other vehicles I don't normally see like Lee's Fox, Sirhc's vehicles or the Stalward. WW2 Dodges, Jeeps and GMC are to be seen at all MV meetings....
  3. First I heard about white poppy's. As a Dutchman we don't have such tradition. However out of respect for our liberators (some I know personally and affectionally) and for feeling Britain as my 2nd motherland I wear a poppy even though hardly anyone here understands what's it about. I say; keep them red! We will remember
  4. Hmm, walked in BD last Summer in Holland at about the same temp as Beltring. It did get hot..... P.S, US infantry wear woollen pants  maybe a reason why so many do Airborne?
  5. Jack mate, are you sure they are Girls???
  6. They didn't, the royalty is another thing.... there a very good researched book on the matter. Can't find it. Basically its about contacts between brit royalty and germany (Hess). Churchill was opposed to any form of negotiations. lets be honest; would Hess fly to the UK with only a vague idea about negotiations? He wasn't as mad as he was made out to be....
  7. Cool!!! The Spit nearly took his head off!! Jessie, no pics to be seen.. Where I live is lowflying training area for our Aapache helicopters, film and photo by yours truly. The film is very short, the battery died... http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a264/T214/th_Olaf041.jpg[/img] The photo was taken a few months ago, behind the embankment is the river Maas, they are allowed to fly at 15 meters (about 45 feet). 17. Guess the postwar armies where happy with them because they were cheap and better than nothing. Doesn't give much protection but lots of mobility! After the war fully tracked vehicles got more mobile and took over the halftracks roles. The Chech armie used them because they had chassis left from WW2 production which was made in their country anyway. Again cheap and mobile. Don't forget halftracks weren't designed to withstand heavier calibre MG's, just mobility to get Infantry as fast transported as tanks with protection from small arms fire. The Armies who used them post war like Holland till the 60-70's probably did that out of economics not for battleworthyness. A mistake was to think of a Halftrack as a sort of light tank - it wasn't. They found that out when used as tankdestroyers in WW2. A Artillery burst would kill them - no armoured roof! The Chech did put in a roof after the war...
  18. Damn, I should get myself a house in England...well haven't got 1 here neither
