Wim Vaders, a Dutch vetaran who was a soldier in 1940 and fled to England to join the Princess Irene Brigade has passed on.
We knew him for a while and I wanted to congratulate him for his birthday.
Because his Tel nr. was disconnected I feared he might have passed so I called the retirement home whre he lived.
He died 28 July last year, we didn't know. He was 89 years old and still attended commemorations.
We'll miss not seeing him at meetings and such.
Wim my friend, Rest in peace.

The mighty French Army........

I prefer going topless, feels better. Enjoy it more then, beside I have a better view of what's going happening on the road. Still, the Dodge look great with the roof on as well.
And it's more fun going toples in the winter, people look at you like you're nuts, which I guess we are.
Marty
Well said!
Those are also my reasons!

My WC 21 is quiter than the WC 52 I had.
Guess its because the cab sits higher.

My indicators are built into the little blackout lights.

Hey Enigma, how you doing, hope the march wasn't too bad. We met outside the shopping precinct where we were fixing a half track for some dutch guys..
Cheers
Tim
Hi Tim
Yep, you were in the Jeep.
I had muscle aches for a week, but I am glad I marched the long route.

Wow, this looks like a really nice trip you had. Me and the 5 year old goes on a trip like this every second monday, since both have the day off from work. We bring along some food, binoculars and some plastic guns as well. And of course the Dodge makes a perfect ride for us. We build some traps and such and hunt down a few commies as well. I'm not quite sure who has the best time!?
For this summer we have already started planning "operation serpent", which is the invasion of a small island in lake Mjøsa. We found maps and recon photos of the island already. Will need some amphibious equipment to make. The assignment is to invade it and stay there for 24 hours, before we pull back. Schedulded to take place around july 1st.
Photos of the island:

Would just like to echo Karoshi's words here, these are NOT toys.
Standard training in awareness for All thunderflashes was to place an empty ammo can over one and stand well back. It DEFINATELY made all aware of the very REAL danger of having one of them land close to you and go off.
Speaking of certification, Lee can back me up on this, we saw some very interesting pictures of people who were treating these things as toys. Suffice to say that those who can still see are having a hard job holding things.
Pyro's are effective for displays and effect, but dont forget they are still explosives and as such should be treated with the utmost respect.
I agree caution is paramount.
In the 80's we got what we called "strijkers".
They didn't have a fuse but a matchlike head. They were very powerful, I never wanted them because I couldn't see when they would go off.
And if they exploded in your hands you had a BIG problem.
the normal firecrackers then numbed your fingers/hurt like hell but you kept them...
The ones I used I don't throw or keep in my hands. Furthermore I wear earplugs.
But it is FUN to launch a liner!!!!

Way ahead of you, happy newyear to all of you!!

It's marked 1.4G by the looks of it..Don't forget you need to hold a certificate to use 1.4G pyros legally in the UK.. Just so happens that JT (FV601) & myself hold such certificates..
Yep, marked 1.4G.

This is the firework, quite lightweight.
We made several clips.
The liner landed 2 houses away on the roof an fell into the yard, no-one lives there. Its being rebuilt.
Later some neighbourhoodkids put a Nitrate firecracker under it, see the result...

Sorry mate, I meant 'strange' as in 'weird' as in good to see.
At the remembrance parade last 18 Sept we saw Guarnere and Heffron sitting at the steps of there hotel, being swarmed by autograph hunters.
I kept a little distance and took some photo's.
We did talk to Paul Rogers, also a Easy Company man, very pleasant person.

Mine is because I like the music from the musician called Enigma.
Also I am an Enigma to lots of people.
Why not my own name? I also like a bit of anonimity. Don't like my name to appear all over the net for everyone to Google.
