  1. Picture of the engine, now just needs a nice coat of green.
  2. Looking great, one of these has to be one of my next projects down the road..
  3. Unfortunately you will have to wait, like us, until some negotiations are done and some other people contacted for mine, Ricks might be easier to pull off. :-D
  4. With which thing? there are a few things going on...haha.. The other project or the Charioteer to war and peace?
  5. Well we talked about possibly doing that Rick, if you think it might be a feasible venture we can always try and do it.. Even if it isn't running 100%, can always be a static..
  6. Final drives were rebuilt by the previous owner at Isle of Wight, so I don't know if we will tear into them or not. The transmission and engine were the two big questions. I will let Rick input on the final drives though.
  7. Page 12 has more info, we will add more when we hear back exactly from the engine rebuilder. But it got a new bank, new magnetos, new pistons and rings and just did a 1 hour test run on the bench.
  8. Well supposedly the engine is done, rebuilt etc. by flight engineering UK, it cost a little over 5K pounds to redo, so lets hit Rick up for some updates.. I found the engine on youtube Sounds good... next thing is for the gear box to being finished, currently soaking to clean out the gunk, Rick replaced the filter that was friggin clogged to a point of no return, we just also just got a new steam/power washer to do the interior and other bits and bobs.. Fingers crossed working on another project to speed along the Cromwell restoration...
  9. 27 tons, metal track and 40mph give or take, I bet.....I wouldn't want to be the one putting it into an inanimate object though. If Rick can do damage in the yard, I sure as heck don't want to be on the road :-D...Plus you can't jump it on the road can't ford streams and make dust clouds...
  10. I don't think it can be driven on the road, so it will be arena or wooded areas..
  11. You can drive it when it is done, or come and play in it, is that kind enough...
  12. Haha that is a good one Rick, I can only kill with kindness..:-D
  13. Well the engine is currently being rebuilt, one cylinder bank was bad, so he had a spitfire bank, which is going in mine. So it will be half spitfire...Also it looks like we are going to make a mold for the wheels to redo the rubber, so we will probably have some makers marks and some other goodies put into it. I need all 20 of my road wheels redone, and I know a few others do too, so look for more info. And don't be to hard on Rick for picture updates, he decided to step on his laptop again and broke it, so he will be back in service some time this week enshallah.:cool2:
  14. Some info from the engine rebuilder. I'm unable to get the inlet manifold water jackets off, it's a common problem caused by damp storage where the studs corrode into the alloy casting. Having drilled them out as far as I can, it is still solid, so I can get the engine apart by splitting the manifolds into two with a disc cutter, see red line on photo, but I need the go ahead for that as I don't have any replacements. They could be welded, but it all adds to the work. I could get it apart in about a week and a half, so overall, it's going to cost more than a good engine if you can find one that isn't seized up. Internally it looks ok, the oil is quite clean. It has wear on some of the cam lobes, typical of these engines. The ignition harnesses and magnetos look in poor condition too. So it looks like I will get to keep my 44 dated engine.
  15. Pete, the fuel tanks and oil tanks were restored by the previous owner at Isle of Wight, the dash has been rebuilt already, the fuel gauges and speedo were already redone, same as some work on the drivers compartment, so those just needed to be checked over, and finished. The gearbox looks good on the inside Rick said, so hopefully no big issues, the engine was dropped off last week, I think they moved locations, but should be the same builder/restorer as the last. Next big project is the turret and figuring out what to do about the wheels, either try to have the rubber redone, or modify centurion wheels.
  16. Oooooooohhhhhh pretty........ August 44, very nice..
  17. Thanks for the info, everything helps out!!
  18. That is why you are the supervisor Adrian!!
  19. That is why I might try and find a spare wheel, to do it like this, either on the front or mounted on the turret, plus I have a little spare Comet track, it is a little bigger and wider, but not too many would know the difference, to put a few pieces on it.
  20. Good looking T16, I think a carrier will be my next project. And this Rick guy seems great
  21. Adrian your correct, my mistake, they had either a Mk1B or MkIII, I was thinking that if I had to buy another engine if one is needed, it would be a MkIVB take out from a Centurion and then I would have to turn it into a MKIII (engine sump and a few other parts moved over). Still learning everyday.
  22. Met up with Rick, Friday afternoon, went out to the yard, got some pics of the beast as it sits and looked at some of the kit in the boxes that came up with it, Rick will go through it next week, and hopefully will get the turret yanked off and starting to look like a Cromwell again, hit the pub later that night and off to Shauns in Sat am in Norfolk to check out Ricks Cromwell. I will post some pics later of both, traveling today...I think I am am excited too.....:-D
  23. Looking good... I have seen wartime pics of HSC's being built and they had black chassis, engine, running gear, pretty much everything from the frame down was black. I wonder if the Humber heavy was the same? I did mine in green, but if I was going to redo it, again  I would do it in black.
