  1. We keep a Brit one at home for when the kids have friends round and we've had no complaints so far! In fact we wore out our original tan canvas one (its in the mending pile now) and replaced it last year at Beltring for a more recent example for a whole £5, not bad value. I would use it at shows but only have a bivvy tent so no room for the bed :!: Paul
  2. Steve, Taking an M201 back to France? Sounds a bit like coals to Newcastle to me, I hope you got a good deal on it! I got mine in France and drove it back to the UK on a temporary French reg. Luckily the only problem I had on the way home was a broken speedo cable and the drivers side wiper stopped, wouldn't have been too bad except for the torrential rain I then had two good years of use then my gearbox blewup and lost me a whole season. Its only just fixed so i'm looking forward to this year :!: Good luck with your rebuild I hope the Gods are smiling on you and you don't find anything else. Did you mention new brake Discs? Have you got a conversion kit fitted, I never have full confidence in the drums and have been thinking of converting, there was a set on ebay a few weeks back but I didn't have the courage or money to pursue them. Paul
  3. Nice pictures Paul A question for you, a bit off topic but relevant to your and other displays, what do you put in your sandbags? I've just got some and want something with body but not too heavy, considering using wood chips at the moment. What do you reckon :?: Cheers Paul
  4. When did 'wise' ever have a part in buying a MV :?: Paul
  5. My magazine pouches have only ever had wooden dummies in them, at least in my ownership! Just have to look out for wood rather than tin-worm Paul
  6. The price went up :?: I'm even more interested now............... If only I could find that last ray gun part, i could rule the world, the world you hear HA, HA, HA, HAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Paul
  7. My guess would be that its the condensor and probe for an exhaust gas analyser. The long bit goes up the exhaust and is clamped to the tail pipe with the clamp keeping the lamp like part upright. The fins are to cool the gas so that any vapour condenses. Probably complete B******t but it fits the profile......... Or its the business end of an Universal all round multipurpose interplanetory electro fragmentiser distegrator ray blast gun :!: Dan Dare eat your heart out Is it for sale? Paul
  8. From ugly bug to butterfly, well sort of if you know what I mean. Thats an amazing job, I'm almost feeling the need to rush out and buy the first rusty Ural I can find......... We've got an old Kawasaki in the barn, I wonder, knobbly tyres and a coat of OD, leather rifle holder etc etc, it could just work. Sound of large SLAP, wake up Paul. Cheers Paul
  9. I wouldn't bank on people not moaning about you painting it any colour you like :!: Especially if you are going to do it because its ONLY an M201  Paint it however you like, but please don't 'Dis' the M201 as not being a proper jeep, it was still made by Willys (well almost ) .................................... Cheers Paul
  10. A lot of my mates (and the wife) think that owning and liking Military Vehicles qualifies me for mentally defective :!: Cheers Paul
  11. Jack, Glad you managed to get a plug in about your article in Classic Military Vehicle, I've just read it and was waiting to see how long it was before someone (I suppose it had to be you!) mentioned it. Like you I wanted a MV for as long as I can remember, not to take to shows or for anyone elses benefit other than my own. I had great plans for my Jeep, which I somehow always knew was going to be an M201, change the wheels to split rims, fit Bar treads (dirty word at the moment :?: ) cover it with white stars and numbers etc etc...... Of course when I actually had it at home and attended my first local show, a Home Guard day, I hid it at the back behind the 'real' jeeps. It was only when I had spent some time looking at the others be they US or British airborne marked I realised that more than half were in fact M201s :!: It was then I thought that rather than change anything I would add to the 'Frenchness' (is that a real word?) and be a bit different from the crowd. Its been downhill from there....... no not really  but my wife is more than a bit miffed at the time and effort spent searching out correct period accessories on ebay etc. I'm happy with my vehicle and to me thats what counts, it is a 'representation' of a French army vehicle of the 50/60s and i'm more than happy to explain to anyone who asks. As I see it, so long as you are not trying to profit by misleading anyone as to the true identity or history of a vehicle or other item then what you do to it is up to you and your concience. Cheers Paul
  12. Answer: If you answered that you are second to last, then you are wrong again. Tell me, how can you overtake the LAST Person? Here's another answer: In motor racing it happens all the time, its called "lapping" and it makes you FIRST! Sorry to be such a pedant, its just my nature  Cheers Paul
  13. I'm booked to go but a wedding anniversary (ours!) has precedence, so there will be a spare pitch at Horndean, and those burgers look soooo good :!: Maybe next year. Paul.
  14. I did steal mine from a museum, I didn't realise you weren't supposed to help yourself! I was going to go back for a half track next time......... 8) Only kidding really Is it limited to WW2 vehicles only in Sept? Cheers Paul
  15. Looks very nice, did it include the 45 Auto or are you not at liberty to say, nudge nudge wink wink......... Cheers Paul.
  16. Keith, I'm in Storrington but work in Crawley so you're not too far off route for me. I'll send you a PM and perhaps we could arrange a date and time. Cheers Paul
  17. Paul, Thanks for the offer, that show is not on my list i'll have to have a closer look at the logistics of that one! We have a local show (Amberley working museum) in May I may take my tape measure to that and see if I can persuade someone to let me take some measuements, are you going to that one? Cheers Paul
  18. Has anyone out there got a set of dimensions for a 30 cal to enable me to build a reasonably accurate wood/metal dummy, i'm a cheapskate plus SWMBO won't let me spend £400+ on a lump of welded up metal :!: I have been trawling the Web for some detail dimensions to enable me to build a dummy 30 cal. I only realy need external dimensions as I also plan to put an Oxy Propane setup in it. Most people seem to say that 1919A4.com is the place to go for blue prints but they only seem to have the right side plates (and I already have one of those!) I purchased a set of plans from Hinkley Mall in the States but they are very crude so no real use either. There are several dubious sites selling apparently full sets of 'machinists' drawings along with other things that would probably qualify me for the "six o'clock knock" by special branch 8) so I have steered clear of them! Any help much appreciated along with any experiences of oxy propane sim fire setups. Cheers Paul.
  19. Paul, Thanks for the extra pics, I'm even more annoyed at missing it now! I will try harder next year, at least the Jeep is back on the road now and I shall be out and about for 'drive it' day this Sunday. Looks like you have even more kit than last year if thats possible! I already manage to fill the Jeep with just a weekends worth of kit for two without any 'toys', even worse now with all the radio gear fitted! My next task is to get my trailer restoration under way to carry my extra stuff for Kemble and Beltring. Cheers Paul
  20. We seem to have a family tradition of changing gearboxes over Easter weekend and this year was no exception. Good news however was that it was the Jeep gearbox going back in. My youngest son helped me manhandle it back into place on Good Friday then I spent Sat and Sunday reconnecting everything. The clutch release arm cost me 1.5 hrs of fiddling and falling into the bellhousing  , then it just slipped into place how does that happen :?: The sun came out Monday and I took the oportunity to go for a shake down run and test drive, it all works My father in law was over from Oz so he had his first ride in the Jeep and we went up onto the South Downs for a photo shoot, no pics yet as he still uses real film :!: Cheers Paul
  21. I missed Fort Nelson this year as the jeep wasn't finished in time  , looks like it was good again. Is that your jeep in the entrance same as last year? if so we had a fairly long chat last year about radios n stuff. Got any more pics of the action? Cheers Paul
  22. I don't know, that 30 cal doesn't seem to be very heavy either! Of course he could just be a really stong bloke but in the 5th picture he has it casualy sitting on his arm like a shotgun! Now if its replica then i'm even more interested as I have been looking around for plans to build one myself, can anyone out there help :?: Cheers Paul
  23. Thanks for the welcome, I hope I can put something useful into the forum as well! As for those newly painted 'Jimmys' I guess I'll just have to try them all for a bevvy, how many can there be? Cheers Paul.
  24. Hi all, I,ve been lurking a while now and have decided to take the plunge and introduce myself. I'm Paul and live in West Sussex, I,ve been collecting militaria in variuos guises for the last 30 years but only took the plunge with a vehicle about 3 years ago when I went over to France and bought a M201 Jeep and trailer. I have decided to keep it French and have spent far too much money and time kitting it out with period kit. I have kept to local shows so far but planned to go to Beltring last year when my gearbox ate itself the week before! The box is back together now and hopefully back in the jeep this weekend. So all being well I may see some of you at Kemble or Beltring this year. Cheers. Paul. (If anyone is wondering where 'stanpart' comes from I am also into Triumph cars!)
