the thought had crossed my mind but then I had a flash of inspiration. there are already a few Jimmy BLOGS so mine would just be another one. SO I decided I'd do a blog for the URAL. russ is in the process of ordering all the bits he needs before he starts pulling it to pieces. it is still on the drive & still untouched as yet because the parts he needed have been out of stock. I believe he may be lucky (unlucky for the wallet) enough to have found what he needs. I don't mind doing both though. best get more batteries for the camera :? cheers Berni

The time is upon us again to start filling in forms. Nibley is up near the top of my list ( well I am section steward) and every year we have a large Military presence. Usually I book in 100 & around 70% turn up. last year due to the popularity 98% turned up. We haven't got the room to accomodate that many vehicles safely and as such I will not be able to accept late entries. on a normal year I get phone calls right up till the day of the show asking for entries & I normally try & accomodate everyone but this won't be an option for this year. the show is for 3 days 16/17/18 june. If you have never been before it is a fair sized steam rally with something for every taste. Please PM me if you are interested & i'll get an entry form out to you as soon as I have more copies. We do strive to keep the military section as military as possible & all caravans etc park up with the rest of the civilian camping. it is a good show & has a huge following. there is always an auction on the friday morning where you can pick up anything from a rusty pole to a car in around 400 lots. a real ale beer tent which is where we have a plentiful supply of black rat. a fairground to keep the teenagers occupied a huge variety of stalls which can take a few hours to look around. The location is on a hill overlooking the 2 severn bridges with the most georgous views & sunsets. it is not far from Dursley & Berkley. Look forward to seeing some of you there ta Berni

Russ is still not feeling 100% & had to miss out on the road run & our AGM on tuesday but is starting to feel well enough to go down & start work on the Jimmy on saturday. I will take some photos of her in all her glory as the last time I saw her she was covered in big blue sheets, I can't wait to see her again & sit in the driving seat going brumm brumm. i'll keep you posted ta Berni

a few pictures of our day at the crime through time museum in the forest of dean samson & militant trailre exhibits from the holocaust section instruments of torture a gibbett which was hung from a tree & you were left to rot away till the bones fell out. as well as the macabre exhibits there was also a vast array of items from more modern times. these are genuine items & of interest to me as it was my era. Sid Vicious's mum donated personal items . very interesting place to visit & if you are in this neck of the woods during the summer months it is worth having a look round.

I only have a couple of photos but it was a good day out with us driving through Bath & ending up at The Crown at Chippenham for lunch, then on to Bristol for a buffet & fireworks. Great day thanks guys & gals another one last one

some photo's of bunkers follow. some of you may have been before but if not then they are really well worth going over to see. This was a small trip with 8 of us MVers going over the water on a bunker & booze trip. Roll on this December most of this bunker is buried under mud so all you can see from this angle is the top another photo this is the front of the bunker which is where the huge gun would have been aiming at Dover the stairs were here going down to ground level this one is a museum and you can see how much of the first is buried this is another site which as you can see is as far on the edge of land as possible giving a fantastic view of the British coastline.

this is the US Liberty Ship which is now a Museum in New York. I took this on a visit in November last year. My Grandad served on US Liberty ships so this was a sort of pilgramage for me.

Me & russ were fairly young when we started the hobby & at that time paid £500.00 for a series 3 landrover. we chose it as a second vehicle that could be used for a hobby & for general family use. The tentage uniforms & everything else sort of appeared every so often without us realising. we then bought a second one & a sankey to carry all the kit. when we made the decision to buy a WW11 we managed to sell both Lannies & our Falklands kit to fund the vehicle. As a young family we didn't have the funds to go straight into an expensive hobby but managed quite nice with the Lannies for a few years & the uniforms were peanuts in comparison, lightweights £6.00 & shirts £2.00.jackets were only a fiver as well. We did come up against some period snobbery from some of the old school but we had made enough friends by that time and dismissed it as their loss. I still have a soft spot for the lanny & would like another one at some point & it is an ideal starting place for someone just starting out. I do think there are less predudices now than there was 15 years ago & that it is more of an accessible hobby. There seem to be a lot more Mvers under 40 than there used to be as well which can only be good for the hobby. Maybe others see it differently or maybe it is different in other part of the country, i can only speak from my observations. cheers Berni

I'll ask at the meeting on tuesday to see if farmer got a photo. I was just going to take one of him 1/2 way up & by the time i'd got the camera open he had backed off again & had parked up. Blink for a secon & these vehicles have a habit of hiding. I hope you enjoyed the museum graham. everyone i spoke to would like to go back again next yea as there was still so much they didn't see & the owner is adding to it every week so there will be loads more. I think the weather put a few people off judging by the phone calls I had to check it was still on so you were not on your own rowan. We had mostly smaller vehicles ie jeeps & landrovers with 1 dodge, a Reo, a samson & grahams militant. The convoy stayed pretty much together which was good. Farmer & tony arrived for the meal just after we did so you didn't hold them up for too long graham, don't forget we travelled back at 35 & they could go at 50. I nearly got rid of all my surplus christmas food with only a few chocolates & cocktail sausages left, I'm just pleased the food went to a good home. Roll on the coming season when we can all socialise again. cheers Berni

hopefully he should feel better for sunday as it is our road run & MW's had the nickname the pneumonia wagon. If he still feels rough we will have to go in the civvi van. not a good impression seeing as how it is our MVT area road run & we are supposed to look after everyone, but health comes first. wishing you feel better soon degsy Ta Berni

he felt that bad he didn't drink on new years eve even though i was driving :shock: he feels somewhat better now, he woke up with it boxing day & its just holding on a bit to long now. The only consolation was that everyone else at work had it at the same time & they all went back to work with stuffed noses today.
