  2. Hi, No, not a restoration but I've bought one and pick it up in a couple of weeks. It's my first British vehicle so lots to learn. Expect lots of questions!! Hope your a patient lot lol....

  4. Thanks John, exactly what i was looking for. Are these Rubbolites available from anywhere or is it just a case of searching the Autojumble stalls? Thanks again. Richard

  8. Guys, Anyone got a photo of the rear of an MW. I'm particularly interested in the "Bump Stops" and correct rear lighting. Thanks Richard
  9. Thanks Richard, understand about the engines now. One i'm looking at has an OY stamped serail number. Paul, thanks for link but i'm wanting ones that already done as i already have a Jeep project in progess. Cheers Richard
  10. Guys, Great info thats really going to help me in my quest for an MW. Please keep the hints and tips coming. Just anoter thing on the engine, if its unlikely to find an MW with its original powerplant, what will then be the next best correct/acceptable engine. For example, Jeeps can have MB or GPW engines (both correct), next best is a post war CJ engine (not correct but works) and finally a Ford Capri engine (not correct and horrible). Do you understand where i'm coming from?? What would not be correct to have in an MW (what do i avoid). Also, how do you id a correct gearbox. Thanks again. Richard
  11. Great information.....thanks. How do i identify an original engine? What areas of the body are prone to rot? Any features i should look for to identify originallity? Thanks Richard
  12. Hi guys, Instead of buying Jeep no 3, i have decided to buy a Bedford MW and hope to do this within the next couple of months. Any hits and tips on buying and ownership, good or bad, would be appreciated. Thanks Richard

    Bedford MW

Anyone know of an MW thats up for sale? The one currently on Milweb has sold. Cash waiting. Thanks Richard
  14. Clive, Don't suppose you have the details for 53YH48? Richard
  15. Jerry, You state "British stamped chassis number". Is this stamping on the drivers side frame horn behind the bumper and is it the same as the original chassis number? Thanks Richard
  16. Hi Phil, I'm no expert but have installed a few Jeep clutches and never had this issue. To be so far away there is something drastically wrong i think? The Clutch fingers need to be adjusted when the pressure plate is fully torqued against the flywheel and the measurement from the face of the clutch fingers (the part that contacts the TO bearing) to the face of the clutch bracket should measure 27/32". All three fingers need to come in contact with the TO bearing at the same time. If you are adjusting the fingers before the plate is attached to the flywheel this may be you problem? Anyway, as i said, i'm no expert and have not encountered this problem on the ones ive fitted? Someone else on here will know more, or post you question on G503? Richard
  17. I dont think that B&B would appreciate our campfires Back to Camping Le Robinson for us then i think. We should all plan a meeting date/place? Richard
  18. Tony, Whats the name of the campsite you stay at there? Richard
  19. Do your own catering.....its a nightmare finding anywhere open for Breakfast and Dinner (this was by far the biggest issue we found). We took two Jeeps over in 2010 and used 1 x coil, 2 x Condensors and had a Crankshaft Flywheel shear off which needed welding back on as we did not have a spare. My Temp gauge also stopped working, so take as many spares as you can manage really. Dont travel in the UK on a Friday! I didnt take my Carbine, and nobody asked to see my Export licence (thats not to say they wont next time??) Make sure your handbrake works for the Ferry, although they do have chocks for the wheels. Dont try to park anywhere near Arromanche on D-Day....it wont be possible, but take your Jeep on the beach there....excellent fun. Take a full petrol can! When traveling around the American sector countryside, petrol stations are sparce. We came very close on a few occasions to running out! We are taking 5 Jeeps over this year and you are quite welcome to join us and/or meet up whilst over there? We are doing Sunday 3rd to Sat 9th June, staying at the Overlord show on Sat 2nd prior to sailing. One of the best things i have ever done. You will love it! Have fun. Richard
  20. Thanks all. Some good suggestions there.
  21. Hi all, Myself and 3 fellow Jeep owners are doing a week in Normandy next year, and planning on spending the weekend at the Solent Overlord show prior to sailing. Anyone done this? Also, can anyone recommend any campsites in the British sector in Normandy? We are sailing to Caen and plan to stay somewhere in that area for the first part of the week? Thanks Richard
  22. ha ha....i have many user names (hiding from the Jeep police)!! Yes, going there wasnt too bad although it took longer then anticipated and we made the Ferry crossing with only 15 mins to spare!! Coming back was not nice. Hit the M25 during rush hour (yes, i know thats a stupid thing to do in a Jeep) and the other drivers were like nut cases!! Never again will we attempt it mid week, hence the reason we have planned Saturday to Saturday for next year. It was also very costly on fuel and that was 2010 prices. At the current increase rate it could be double the price next year!! Cant beat it over there though. Locals are so friendly and still wave as you drive past. One of the best things ive done and would recommend it to anyone with a vehicle especially. Camping Le Robinson backs right onto the hills overlooking Omaha Beach. There was so much to find and explore right on our doorstep. Eating out was the only downside. Dont let anyone ever tell you the French are known for their Cuisine. Absolute B*******. Finding a Resturant that was open was very difficult, and as for breakfast....forget it (unless you are mad on "Croc Meseaur" (Cheese on toast). This year i will be head cook, so will will not be relying on any outside catering!!!
  23. Yes, we did that last year but found the run to and from Portsmouth a bit of a drag, mostly the return journey!! The fun bit is driving over there, so it was just a option we were considering. Richard
  24. Hi all, Looking into the possibility of using a transport company to take 4 Jeeps to Portsmouth for our 2012 Normandy visit. Anyone used anybody they could recommend or have any idea of prices? Leaving from Hertfordshire. Thanks Richard

    Towing a jeep

No point owning a Jeep then carting it round on a trailer. Surely driving it is the whole point in owning it?? Just my opinion!!
