  1. I was there too today, and the mud pool at the entrance to Americas field covered my tyre walls. No big deal really. Monkton's field also has some mud pools but if the weather stays like today for a couple of days it should dry out. Got myself a nice spot in the new field as no perimeter spots left in Americas. I do like a perimeter. I got sunburn today too.

Looks like a new shower block has been added too.

  2. o so thats jack on pictures thank god for that , thought leo sayer was into mv,s ......................................p.s no ban please jack .....

So it's not just me then! :-D

When I am at Beltring - I am going to be taking shed loads of pictures NOT of mv's but of bald heads or those with retracting hair lines then I am going to ask Joris to make a gallery so I can post them all in there - you have been warned.

I'm safe, a full(ish) head of Scandinavian blond hair.

  3. Had a few MRI's. They stick a collar around my neck to stop the machine yanking the metal out. Had one in April, I'd forgot how noisy they were, but the good old UK H&S being what it is they stick ear defenders on as well.

Here's the MRI. As you can see, there's a bit of a problem.

It's the result of a car crash.

  4. Had to go back to hospital yesterday to discuss results of an MRI scan. I've been asking for copies of X-rays for years but was told you have to get written permission and arrange to go and look at your own notes but can't take any X-rays away. Now everything is digital I went armed with a USB pen drive and showed the consultant how to copy the pictures onto it. Made the 4 hours driving worthwhile. Anyhoo I thought I'd share some interesting pics, and yes they are like spring compressors.:-D

  5. Here's my tuppence.

Registering. The first one I registered was fairly straightforward. Get it MOT'd, get an age verification from IMPS, MVT or any other relevent body and go to your local DVLA office. Fill in form V55(I think) and give all paper work in. They booked an appointment for me to bring the Jeep over for an inspection and that was it. Reg number and tax disc given straight away. The one I've just done was even easier. I took all paper work and a selection of photos and it was done there and then.

MOT's. I've never had a problem here. Some MOT centers that don't see vintage vehicles could be problematic. The best thing to do is find a Jeep owner close to you and find out who they use or if you already have a center you use have a chat with them.

Regarding common failures. Have the brakes well adjusted and there shouldn't be a problem. Wheel bearings and ball joints are easy enough to check as are the steering linkages. Likewise check your lights are all OK.

Scams. I guess it would be people advertising a hotchkiss as a wartime jeep. There's nothing wrong with the Hotchkiss, but if you specifically want an MB or GPW then that's what you should get.

Rust. Hat channels, floors and inside the toolboxes are the usuall spots to look at. Everything is repairable and parts are readily available. It just depends how handy you are or how much somebody would charge you to do the work. Keep an eye on Nick Johns' post as he's replacing some hat channels.

I'd recommend going over to G503 forums and having a read through there. Join up and ask any questions. That's what I did and it was a great help. Without it I'd have been stumped on some things.

Hope that's of some use. I'm no expert by the way.

  6. I think the concern is the background colour. I've been followed by dibble and had a couple of them having a look round my previous Jeep with the same plates and not a mention about them. Same with the MOT.

  7. In that case I'd say you've been exceptionally fortunate :police: :nono:.

Lovely work on the Jeep! One question - why do MD Juan not pre-drill all those holes?

If I get any grief from dibble I'll have to knock up some black and white ones. No idea why MDwrong (as they're sometimes known) don't drill all the holes. They drill the back panel except for the jerry can holder, spare wheel carrier and reflectors. The hole for the trailer socket is drilled but not the 4 bolt holes around it. The holes for the rear corner handle are drilled on the rear panel but not on the side. The footman loops for the axe and shovel straps are pre fitted, but not the axe bracket. Shovel head bracket holes are pre drilled and the windshield brackets are pre fitted. I had to take those off as the angle on them was wrong. Also where the screen hold down hooks are drilled in the dash need some fettling.

    Other than that they're perfect.
