  1. Only ever come across one in service, hidden away with a bunch of other presentation bits and pieces, all of which were beaten, broken or otherwise is poor states, that was badged RA. Not sure whether it was a remnant from the AOP days or from an RA bloke working alongside at some point in the depths of history. I imagine it either found itself in a skip sometime after I left that Sqn or during its disbandment or is now secured away in a box with anything else deemed worth keeping, never to see the light of day again in some undisclosed location, when the Sqn disbanded.
  2. Cap badge on the left of the poppy might be Hampshires (although there were several Regiments back then with similar or identical cap badges, differing only by having their respective names in the scroll at the lower portion). Cap badge to the right of the poppy looks like it could be Army Service Corps, subsequently post WW1 the Royal Army Service Corps then sometime post the Korean War the Royal Corps of Transport before amalgamating with 3 other cap badges and the RE postal courier trade in 1993 to for the RLC.
  3. A very, or very very, soft cloth and some Brasso or Silvo gently done would probably do it. If you had a better pic of it as is might be able to make out the cap badge stamped on it, the attached pictures aren't very clear.
  4. New/unused desert camouflage net 11 metres by 11 metres. couple of small rust stains and minor fading from being stored outside. Collection from St Athan, S. Wales £150
  5. I've a heap of assorted parts for the Penman 1.13T GS Cargo trailer for sale if anybody's interested. Would have to go through it all to confirm exact quantities etc but parts include; Red triangular reflectors Rear "landing" legs and brackets Convoy light units Mix of light fittings Assorted nuts/bolts Brake fluid reservoir caps and the rubber over-caps The metal plates that go over the brake reservoir pots on the towing arm Emergency brake cables RIC-Clips for wheel nuts There's other bits and pieces but this is what I can recall off the top of my head. Some parts are compatible with the current service Land Rovers. Would prefer to get rid as a job lot collected from St Athan, South Wales. £100.00
  6. Not British but there's these 2 at what's left of RAF Upwood in Cambridge, not sure if they're still there.
  7. To resurrect it with a question, I've recently bought a mixed bundle of these in grade 2 or worse. The size 8 is beyond rescuing so am butchering that for fabric to patch up any holes in the remainder, however a couple of them could do with the lining being replaced as they've either disintegrated or have worn out down to the base fabric the pile material is affixed. Would I need to find a specialist place to do the work of replacing the lining or would any old tailors do?
  8. Does anyone by perchance happen to know what size nut, bolt and washers are used for the bar that runs from the front legs to the back leg joint are. I've recently picked one up and it's missing them off one side.
  9. Does this illustrate the correct way of wearing wristlets, woollen? I can't find anywhere that says or shows whether its worn with the part that covers your hand is over the top (covering knuckles) or covering the palm.
  10. I shall look into that route then, pretty sure I have something here with sufficient fabric I can sacrifice for the job and might have family with a sailmakers sewing machine.
  11. A few months back I came into possession of a 1944 dated camp cot going gratis, same design build as the current issue types but with wood and steel for the frame and the metal bits rivetted to the wood rather than screwed together , only recently opened it to check it over properly and found the canvas is torn. Wouldn't mind putting it to use but I think its a bit beyond my skillset with a sewing needle, and being rivetted together I can't disassemble it like the modern types to work on it either. Does anybody know anyone/anywhere within the Vale of Glamorgan(shire) or bordering counties that might be able to effect repairs? I shall try and get pictures sometime during the week of it and figure out uploading them if that helps.
  12. Yep, that's fine with me once I figure out where the PM function is.
  13. I collect weird bits and I'd be interested in this if you still have it and were willing to part.
  14. To the best of my knowledge and experience, the only trousers out around the 2000's in DPM ripstop were the windproof ones as part of the rather short lived Soldier 2000 range. Like the matching Jacket, Field, DPM I think they were quickly phased out as being not particularly windproof and after a couple of washes and an ironing, or one exercise and a wash, were about as robust as a sheet of 2 ply bog roll.
  15. Larry, might just have been how I was wording it, I was meaning that the ones I've highlighted here from said picture are for pegging down the guy lines on the extendable radio masts used at CP's and the such. The two separate piles beneath them as you've said are from the CES for 9x9 and 12x12 tent sets and are also used in the make up of vehicle cam kits (not that anyone is as sad as me at work to actually look into what a proper cam kit for each vehicle is supposed to contain). The ones in the image underneath in the original post are also for camouflage netting to hold the cam net support poles but I think they constitute concealment kit for tentage as I've not as yet seen anything to indicate their use in vehicle kits.
  16. When you say rounded tops are you referring to the ones in the image with the 9x9/12x12 pegs ( Pin, 12 Inch Mild Steel as the CES book for tents describes them) or the other ones in the picture beneath them? If its the ones pictured with the 9x9/12x12 pegs those are for pegging down the guy lines for the radio masts used at CP's/REBRO's and the such, if its the ones in the picture underneath those are for cam net support poles.
  17. It's first world war, as to make and model no idea. Closest matching pictures I've found are side on shots and neither say what vehicle it is.
  18. My experience of vehicle handle mattocks, pick heads and shovels has been: the handle if new is unpainted and the pick head is black, the shovel depends on its age/type so pretty much anything pre 1990 varies between all green or green handle and black head and anything 1990 to date is green head plain would handle with some kind of clear satin/gloss coat on it. Many of either tool have a multitude of coats of paint in mostly green but sometimes black or sand from over the years where they've either been repainted by hand or more often than not left strapped to the vehicle bonnet when its gone through a spray bay for a repaint.
  19. This is genuine news, there's been an official notice put out tri-service that all Mk.1 and Mk.2 canvas tents are to be withdrawn as soon as practicably possible and swapped out with the Mk.3 and Mk.4 PVC tents due to the fabric no longer meeting the regulations on being fire retardant. Until such time as units get the replacement tents in they can continue to use them for activities provided they adhere to various stipulations such as not using them for housing troops unless absolutely no other means of doing so can be found, no single occupancy of tents if that is the case and unless the weather is gipping doors are to be kept open and fire extinguishers placed inside the tent, no mixing of canvas tent parts with PVC tent parts and so on.
  20. I have 2 green ones dated 1965, one has the year and makers mark inside the same disc space and is by PBM and the other has the year in large numbers in an oval indentation like the NSN is and then in the circular one has the makers mark PP inside a circle formed of triangles like on some of the pre-osprey 58 pattern water bottles. As far as I'm aware the green jerry cans dropped out of production in line with the green water bottles in 1965 and went to purely black ones from that point onwards and I imagine would've come into being in 1962 like the water bottles. The current official description for them is Can, Water, Military.
