hmm not an impossible task..perhaps I will just leave her as is...
-
mine is 1989 but on a H plate.
-
is it definitely from the hubs or from the brakes...
-
yes read through and am not sure what fits and what doesn't...may have to try some wheels off the foden and see if they improve things...would make life a whole lot easier with std wheels on the rear...and if they helped to gear he a bit lower that would be a treat too...
-
love that S26 tractor unit...could we replace the rear wheels on the DROPS for 22.5 wheels, twins or super singles...would this make her run closer to her sweet spot....
I find the chore of driving her at 45 mph a pain, and 52..is on the limiter on mine...if she would run up to even 55 at the same revs as she does 45 it would be marvellous...
-
try lifting that by hand...good luck, the seals are the real pig....I must say I never enjoyed working on the hubs...

Is there anything on the web for 'Exercise Crusader 80 in 1980' (also known as Exercise Spearpoint) for most of NATO including BAOR and TA, of which I was one?
I was in both lionheart and Spearpoint...fantastic exercises...

I would say its well broken....and I bet you could hear nothing....I am sure I heard mine break as I was driving along, mind you when the rod went through the side of the block that was a more sincere bang,...no doubting something had broken, can you believe she was still running for a bit even with a rod out the side...

it is better...but road tax is a pointless tax, it is yet another tax that costs significant amounts to recover and police and could easily be removed by adding a few pence on the cost of petrol, and removing hundreds of civil servants who manage it...still not right but this is a good news step in the right direction....we need more good news...

I re insured all my trucks and military stuff today with Cherished Vehicle Insurance...what a lovely bunch of people, Holy was very very helpful first of all saved me 600 pounds, then i asked if my 21 year old could be on the insurance and they said yes, cost me another 240 squigglies but was well worth it...no more footman james for me, after nearly 15 years with them I am no more...
son will be pleased...

Any help greatly appreciated
is the shaft damaged too, or just the hub side....I can recommend that you lower the suspension (wind the torsion bar down) to make the drive shafts level, it will come down quiet a bit as much as 2 or three inches if I remember right, this will reduce the risk of the tracta joints spinning out of the hubs and doing the damage you now find, its because they were meant to be carrying 5 tons of gear in the back not empty as most of the time they are these days...when in the extreme travel the joints are barely making contact and all it would take is one jerk of the throttle...happened to mine, all my torsion bars now lowered to let her run fairly neutral when on the road...

would not really help if your points are bad...cheap new dizzys are about for 50 quid and that may be a cheaper quicker option...they usually just bolt in already set up...
has anyone ever tried advancing the ignition a tad to allow for the modern fuel, I know the b61 fires at or just past top dead normally but has anyone tried a bit of advance over norm...
-
I run my stollys on the electronic ignition from jollys and the 13 plugs and have no foulng problems...she runs a treat, I off road one of mine in second and third using the full rev range with great results..
the jolly gear is great...
-
this is my last year with them...
-
stalwarts always do that to you...
-
just got to love how much there is to learn on a stolly....
what ever you do dont get the heater and the fuel cut off valves at the back of the cab mixed up or you will stop rather quickly...not that i would do that...:angel:

beautiful....lovely machine...
-
thats exactly what i have done :-) just sent it off, no we wait and see?
they are not being helpful at all these days, it feels like you are breaking the law just by talking to them, they make you feel like criminals in asking them to do anything...the DVLA and VOSA are the worst of British irrelevant organisations trying to justify their existence...just my opinion...
-
exciting, things to check apart from everything are the brakes and the condition of the flexible hoses to the brake calipers, they perish and fail suddenly...dangerous..
obviously all the oils, and dont ever think of anything in her other than hydraulic oil..brakes clutch throttle and steering...and you wont go wrong....
I would check the relay valve at the rear to ensure it is working properly (brake light )...if not isolate and fix a new mechanical brake light switch, or replace with new troublesome relay valve...
air leaks abound on the old girls and the steel pipes are rotting now...I would clean them out as soon as possible and spray a bit of wd 40 into it to keep it all lubricated...
If it hasnt been done already I would send the dizzy off to jolly engineering and go electronic ignition, it works a treat and makes her a lot more reliable...
apart from that and as i said checking everything have fun with her...dont ever forget to take out the bungs after a run, and to lock the clutch pedal down so that the plates do not stick together...
oh and always check tyre pressure before you go out on a run, will save the tracta joints and bevel boxes a bit...
its not an easy job changing the hub tracta unit so good luck with that, have a heavy duty engine hoist ready, makes things a bit easier instead of a jack...

cherished vehicles insured my son (AS AN ADD ON TO MY INSURANCE) age 21 on a 432, a zil 131, M62 wrecker, a ferret, a green goddess and a Ural 375d. Ideally you need your father to be the main insurer and you to be a named driver
however they would not do it on my subaru SVX's and impreza turbos as they were too young and they wanted to do them as individual cars even thought they are used less than 1500 miles a year...which is just silly...not sorted them just yet
so insurance companies are all different...dont belief that they are all the same...footman james are AON these days they are not in my experience any use to us family men any more
