easy for us to bemoan his gear...and I stripped my first motorbike with a tool set i bought from the market stall, i still have it and it is still in use...
but got to say it doesnt look that bad and it you have heated it until it is dead then quoshed it a few times that will usually free it up...
but a big 6' bar should be used carfully as it could twist of the stud if not careful...cant be a difficult repair to fix it though but I am assuming tools and engineerings skills are in short supply...

gaz 66 added to the list and a couple of russian heavy mg's

Thanks for the replies
Well thats what I expected really, but it may allow me to run my truck as a tax loss if nothing else also the experiance doing it.
Im not too precious over it really, Its going to need smartening up but concurs is not a option for me a military truck it was never shiny.
Oh its a 1953 fordson Thames ET6. Im just trying to figure out what to do with it really.
Is there any agency's I can register It with or people in the know??
the people in the know are very protective and dont pass much on to be honest...

I think for most people it is the weight and whether a 40 ton vehicle can ever be successful in it's stated role of armoured recce. If it can then why didn't they just replace CVRT with some variant of Warrior (they didn't coz it was too big!)..
However, what's done is done and they will now just have to make the best of it.
On the positive side there might be lots of cvrt spares around soon - assuming they don't all go to Latvia!
Cheers
Tim
true the cvrt is a good recce vehicle, and will be a good sale to countries that need them...

Is this an android or an I-phone!!
iPhoe 6...since Jobs left Apple have lost their way...
-
know nothing about it but it doesnt look too bad and sounds excellent electronically.
what are the gripes, just its weight...

its pretty simple just wind it up or down, I WOULD make the drive shafts as level as you can so as to reduce the risk of damage to the tractor joints...

I freed an old tractor engine off that had seized solid with a mixture of diesel and would you believe Coca Cola
Dread to think what Coke does to your insides but it certainly freed my engine ! Leave it or a week and be gentle when you try to move things as you have found it is easy to cause more damage. Are you sure the engine is not full off water and hydraulic locked ? Water will lock an engine solid. Good Luck.
coke removes rust...well known trick of the trade....
yes forgot about the pre select box...its been a couple of weeks since i drove my ferret so its easy to forget...
our generator had a leaking injector, it hydrauliced when we tried to start her up...we fixed the injector, cleaned the engine oil out and put new in put her back together and job done...nothing broken and this is a big 300 kva cummins 6 cylinder diesel...
so perhaps its full of petrol from a leaking carb or something...I know petrol generally leaks past the rings into the sump but perhaps its not just water...if you remove the plugs and it turns then you know what it was...
-
taking the plugs out and hot oil will help...do not fill the chambers though, only put a small amount in each cylinder...if the oil is still there in a couple of hours or days then it is very well seized, if it isnt it should move...I know its a silly question but it is out of gear and the clutch is not stuck or something else silly like that..seized alternator, water pump...etc etc..
is it in the dry/ indoors..you could also try heating up the water in the system and using a pump to flow it around the engine, this will free up parts after a while...it is a slow process though...

Hi I've brought a scammell pioneer from Belgium in the deal I've managed to get it transported to Calais as port of but now I'm stuck I've got to get it over the water this month. I live just outside Dover between canterbury and Dover. Has any one got means of transporting It for me at a cost obviously. It does drive but has no brakes, maybe it could be towed with on a bar as it's only on the boat and then 4 miles inland .
If any one can help PM me please rgds Neil
Neil...I am sure we could help if you get totally stuck, bar-ing it would work...but we have to get it over to calais and then bring it back, could we not get it on the boat and then tow it from here..does the hand brake work...at least then we could move it slowly...then we could haul it easily to your place...I have a daf drops which would tow it easily...and a foden gs that can carry 20 tons if needed...I am in Guildford, but I am sure some one more local could help out...
as I say if you get totally stuffed let me know

Hey guys,
I have plenty of space for a few vehicles...its all open storage, although we have plenty of covered storage in containers and under tentage...
pm me if you need any storage...it is very secure fully managed access and CCTV...
-
no info?
bummer they need to close by so you can work on them
-
yes Griff sort of agree and the space is very short for flexible pipe....it really needs a compression pipe, that when hot expands easily into the gap and sealing it a bit better...will try to get some new ones and have a go at refitting them...
-
thanks Guys but I think i am going for the flexible pipe route....I can then fix them tightly at each end (somehow yet to be determined) and then fix the flexible hose in between to allow for movement...
-
well removed rad...and found the problem...
I had wrapped the exhaust of the engine to try and queiten it as the small connecting pipes simple from no seal at all.
however modern wrap is totally useless. it had borken up and spread itself with oil and other contaminant all over the radiator so virtuall blocking it off.
a couple of hours cleaning and she is running sweet not overheating and all is fine...now i have to try and find some connecting pipes that are a good fit instead of these ones..anyone found a suitable solution for this...wondering if I cant make up some sort of flxible pipe connection...
anyone else found a solution to this

fantastic, i love reading some of the detail people have on vehicles it is quite immense...lets keep logging it in here for future reference, once those guys hwo actuall used thes ethings are gone, this will be the only record...well and a few manuals...

superb history, superb indeed...the fact that it stil remains virtually as is is unbelievable...

yes i have just put an offer in for 90 acres of land barns and lakes in the South downs, i want to famr the 90 acres, and build my museum on the area that has planning for a waste reclamation site. what is the consensus ...NO...lets keep the waste reclamation its already there and no chance for the museum...they wont even give me the go ahead for a house so i can look after my animals...it is plain ludicrous...and yet in the national park of the cairngorms they are building 1500 homes right slap bang in the middle of it...its just plain madness.

you have to fit support bearings to each drive shaft...not overly difficult to do...I think of all the mods this is worth it as in my experience the front two wheels seem to take the most stick...but if your not planning on doing thousands of miles why bother. its a great engineering problem, I would love to do it to one of mine, maybe on the diesel unit, maybe...
would be a strange drive with just the middle two wheels driving...but bet it would run a bit quicker, only a tad. rolling resistance wont change that much but must be easier if the wheels are free wheeling. load on the bevel box wont be much more severe I would have thought and you would certainly unload the drive line...bet you could even get 4 mpg out of her...
service the hand brake too...and the drive mechanism for the speedo..., I fitted a second bilge pump in there too for when i dare to take it swimming.
