its why i said drain down the system and replace all the fluid with dot 4..but I cannot say it is the right solution for sure..
-
dont be confused, no one seems to have the right answer for this. I would only use dot 4 if i had replaced all the fluid in the system first...this seems to work if you have a hydraulic russian system for the brakes. However if your fug manual says hydraulic oil what type of hydraulic oil does it mean is the question i suppose...I though the fug and the BRDM were initially using Castor oil.. however every vehicle we have had has had brake issues due to not knowing which oil to use...
I will check my manuals for ATM-!0
-
I would drain the whole system, refill with dot 4 then drain it again and refill with dot 4...do not mix what ever is in there with dot 4....I think they were originally filled with castor oil dot 3...or whatever it was made with and then upgraded to dot 4..I do not think they were ever hydraulic oil..but it is a forever annoyance to know what it was..

I have some of the tool bins...no fuel tanks though...pm me...

hi
does anyone know if its easy to fit a Volkswagen bettle engine into a munga
regards
alex
I would have thought a golf diesel engine better...better mpg...I was hoping to fit one into one of my three mungas, but we never seem to get anything finished,...
-
got to add a Kraz 255b
-
she is a Tatra under the Armour...gearbox and clutch take a bit of a hammering and are seen as weak and underpowered for the weight and the most awful driving position, but good to look at and full swimmers too...
-
A long way to go I m afraid and a lot of money to spend before I am where I want to be...
-
its the most important thing to check in my humble opinion, but you will get used to them...mine doesn't seem to lose any oil from the governor, well not in the very small amount of usage mine gets but we still check it...would hate to have a runaway 432/4...that would be very scary...

taxed registered in my name and now insured...play day...will pop down to the shops for a mars bar...
-
Amazed that the menin gate ceremony is not shown more often and talked about more often...the people of europe understand just how bad both wars were...we were very isolated from it to a degree, ( I know london and Coventry and a few other locations might argue otherwise but) we do not keep it in everyones eyes every day of every year. it is a fantastic event and I am full of admiration for those who keep this sort of thing alive...
the UK needs not to forget...

think I am getting lost with these replies now....my imagination cant cope..
-
works for me...took her playing in the mud, not bad off road...
-
You are definitley going through an age crisis!
been going through it for a long time now.....
-

most MV owners know he score, there are some who think its about money, but you cant blame people for wanting to make a living out of this fantastic hobby..

I think 2 k for anything large is unrealistic but a zil 131 truck is your answer..cheapish, easy to maintain, easy to drive, excellent brakes, 8/9 mpg. Off road she is a serious player. You will struggle to break them..I have a few of these and to be honest there is no truck out there built in the 60's that I would say is a patch on the zil131...it had to be good they built it for nigh on 30 years, without change, (they increase the compression ration towards the end to allow for modern fuels) and built nearly 1,000,000..it was designed in the late 50's prototyped in the early 60s and put into production from the mid 60's.
they can be off roaded even with a camper body on the back....I know I have done it.
PM me if you want one...but sadly 2k wont get you one. Scammels great too never had one except you could call the DAF DROPS a scammel in all but name...
-
nah with mirrors in the right place, and the side hatches /periscopes open visibility is only poor when reversing...
-
yes Landys cool enough, but they are just big cars, was more interested in hearing about non car types...can never beat a good loader or digger for playing about with..I have a kirovets Balarus 701, now that is a big toy..but not good on road...
-
got to agree, scrapping that would be cruel indeed...
-
I was just thinking about my toys and which one I enjoy the most and is the most usable.
Here are my thoughts. I dont include jeeps and such toys as they are simple cars without electric windows.
Ferret just about the easiest to drive and play with, one of my personal favourites, could be an everyday vehicle in the summer months...
Stalwart a favourite off road but always worried about it breaking on road and it is hard work on road...
Urals and Zils just brilliant on and off road.
Leyland Daf. DROPS.a very nice easy drive...not an everyday toy though
432/434 too big and involved to drive on the road regularly
fug impossible on the road, awful off road, no vision.
star 266 excellent truck on and off road, good workhorse if you needed it to be
star 660 hard work but a nice truckl and more capable than you think, excellent box body, one of the best for camper conversion.
BRDM, too big for everyday use but an easy drive. okay for pub runs
Saracen too big too wide but lots of fun to drive.
MTLB hard work, no chance on road...
Kraz 255b too wide too slow.
CVRT. superb and a good regular driver...
M62 wrecker with the 10 litre petrol engine superb for everything...just 22 tons too big...5 mpg doesnt help either but for that size of engine and size of truck in my eyes economical...
I am not into world war 2 mini trucks and tanks but a sherman on the road would be great fun I suspect...and anyone got a bren gun carrier registered for road use..that would be cool, berliet trucks are great, but best with the synchro gearbox...M458 easy too, m113 never driven one but am told they are easy to drive and tiny compared to most APC's and so should be good on road...
in addition I would add as my favourites a fox, a saladin, maybe an OT-90 one of the easiest drives ever... but would be ridiculous on the road...so my current top ranking is the
CVRT and The Ferret...
any advances on this...

that looks great to me,
what does 'they will not take kindly to time wasters'...mean...

Built the wheelstation jack adapter. Pulled the wheelstation.
Tracta joint pretty poor due to being immersed in water. bevel gear box pulled and bearings replacement in progress.
also found the bearings in the wheelstation input shagged.
Its been emotional.
Did you find the bearings easy to replace/find..
assuming they are pretty standard sizes...
