will take out rad and give her a clean and also check this relief valve....thanks guys
-
She has always run very close to boiling but is now overstepping the mark and overheating...first going to clear out the water and wash her through to make sure we have no silt in the system...the water pump appears to be working fine, the thermostat is removed, we tried that first...but I will replace that..
next going to remove the radiator and give it a good wash out and thorough clean...and remove the 50 years of grunge that has built up on it, hopefully that will help too...
but is there anything peculiar to the ferret that I SHOULD LOOK AT TOO. The engine runs sweet and is not being worked hard...so doubt it is anything there but any suggestions gratefully accepted from you more knowledgeable sorts out there..

How long are they? I'm trying to figure out if another transmission will fit.
in my general experience the boxes tend to be quite compact...but I will see if i can measure them in mine...

hmm thats a big bang at some time, cheap repair instead of proper repair...good easy plate to fix though nice and flat...

Okay i get married on the 1st July, in tissington, taking the newly painted Ural and Sand coloured Ferrett plus the daf as haulage for the ferrett to have a few pictures on the day with the vehicles...will be fun, the cost of getting them to the place is around 800 quid...ouch..ouch ouch...
take a look at the ferrett and daf and Ural at our facebook page thecoldwarcollection no spaces.

desperate times means desperate deeds, they wont be in business much longer, ferries are sadly on their way out...the chunnel...is so much better...
-
we have finished the Ural she is all ready to go, new paint ignition and a few repaired panels...looking very pretty...going to be showpiece for the wedding.
go check facebook and thecoldwarcollection....

mechanical pumps better than an electric one when working...i dont like electric ones but we use a lot of them.

fantastic to hear other views on the subject...I certainly think the Russians would have been worse bed fellows than the Germans...

I thik the BBC do a great job but its a tough one. its for the youngsters who know little about the war other than what they have learned on x-box, (and that is a good amount generally, my sons know more about the d-day landings than I do.) But I just feel that they don't get over what really went on, how momentous an event for the world and Europe this was...how awful a battle it was, how so many got killed in the first few hours on Omaha beech. and what that meant to their families....etc etc I feel sure that had we not invaded, the real scenario is that Russia would have annihilated the Germans and carried on through the rest of Europe....a scary thought.
I can only say that those immortal words of 'lest we forget' must never apply...

those e-types look out of place to me...
-
superb old gun, fantastic reputation and good design..just too damn heavy...cant imagine it is worth just 300 quid but then its what people will pay for it.. I think your right about 1500-2000 in the right place...do you actually want to sell it
-
anyone know where I can find wheel nuts for a foden gs 1974...I have been trying around but had no luck so far...only need 4 of the buggers, we damaged them removing them from the truck, dont think they had been off for 10years...
-
b81...rare expensive and well worth the effort and you get to build a very useful and special engine..parts readily available from banisters...
-
even with diesel engine they would only be getting 4 or 5mpg I would have thought depending upon the engine. if you get a really modern lump fitted you could see 10 mpg plus I suppose...but do you intend to do that many miles that its worth the bother...
-
You say how to get her started...what else did they do to her and why is she not starting....
-
serious money...

I don't think its brakes... I'm not that lucky!
But any thoughts greatly appreciated
its a really odd place for oil....I would check out everything from oil leaks to oil dripping out of the cab, the stuff comes from the strangest of places, but if there is nothing from anywhere else than a hub is the likely cause...but you can't guarantee it at all
-
it could also be other causes not so obvious but I cannot remember all my seals or possible places a leak could occur but a leak there could be from a number of places...
-
this is where the oil stain is
hmm was this on the inside of the wheel...it could be from a brake hub as it sort of works its way around the hub/drum and drips into the wheel because of the wheel stations camber...there is usually a bit of a trail to it though, especially if it has been sitting, but it will show up if you pump the brakes with the wheel off...

running anything like this must be hard work. I am currently trying to find a place for my collection but I am being hounded out of everywhere...I have the perfect place In south Alton but its now in the south downs national park and I am told that there will be no chance of getting it approved, cant even build myself a house to live on my own land even though I want to put my cattle there...its ludicrous...
the Uk is not an easy place to do anything, create a business, create jobs or to earn a living...forget it...save the trees and the wildlife and you may have a chance to do something...European union will give you money to do that...
this country is slowly killing itself with rules and regulations trying to stop this and control that to the point where nothing will happen and we will be left behind by the rest of the world..
