  1. Hi Andrew, How did you get on with the half worn pads? I was wondering if you would provide a little more information on the polymer rubber (supplier, storage, mixing and curing instructions. As you know there is a universal track issue with CVRT's and I was wondering if this was something that could be adapted and applied to CVRT tracks. Just a thought while I have some time and if you don’t mind sharing of course
  2. Thanks Chris, Didnt have the part number but I have ordered it now
  3. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of one please? I am making a bracket for the rear door of my Spartan, my parts book does not have a boiling vessel mounted on the rear door at all. I wanted to start fabrication while I am sorting out the electrics before I actually buy one. Also I know I am pushing this, but if anyone knows how thick the metal the bracket is made of Cheers
  4. When I put the equilibrator back on, it will be with the hole facing down in an attempt to stop water collecting inside it and rusting the washers solid again. However doing that does mean if I was going to put any oil in there it will drip out... The air of course will stay in as will the magic, but just to aid the magic along I will be using some graphite grease. Now the observant ones amongst you will notice I have put another picture on this post. The more astute ones will notice that actual the bottom mounting is broken (Sheared in half). Having consulted a local welder (a friend of my sons)he has advised me that any repair by welding is likely to fail in the not distance future as the mounting appears to be cast. So after thought we came up with a plan to grind the mounting level, drill and tap 2 holes, then make 2 brackets that will screw in to the holes with holes in to pass the pin through that also goes through the equilibrator. Should that fail I will drill through the casting and the deck and put the new brackets on a threaded bar all the way through and deck and secure them with nuts. Unless anyone has a better idea J
  5. Been awhile since my last update, but I am still going... Well I gave the equilibrator to a man with a very big hammer, he managed to unscrew it for me. If you look at the picture you can see the washer (top left, a new one is below it) i took out, all 17 plus 2 spacers were rusted together. After seperating them they had little or no play left in them, so ebay and China came to my rescue and new washers were purchased. I cant get 17 + the spacers in and get the casing closed again so I have had to loose the spacers.. Now I just have to get the bottom mounting rewelded and I can fit it ... One step closer
  6. No i don't for DVLA i do for the ambulances but not got HGV any more as i didn't need it and i am getting old.
  7. I don’t think so I just was so unclear what category I needed. Thanks to Mk3iain I understand I need a category “C” licence. All this has changed since I used to play with heavy goods there were 3 categories HGV 1, 2 and 3 depending on what you were driving.
  8. He said that they examiners had been out and said what he was doing was fine, after he built an area to do the manoeuvres on and had access to the road in a circuit fashion. Then on the evening of when they were coming out to examine a class of students, they phoned up and said it was not ok after all and he had to make other changes, but they were unclear as to what those changes were….. Sorry Nick if I didn’t get that 100% right
  9. I am not sure if this is under the right heading but :_ I have been chatting to some one who has owns a “drops”, sorry I don’t know what type. This got me thinking about using it to take the Spartan around the country, something I am keen on doing. I duly go on the DVLA website and get totally confused by what it is, or what it is not telling me. As I am not driving heavy goods vehicles or Buses for a living, so it seems I don’t need a Goods Vehicle Operators License. But then there does not seem to be the old HGV 1, 2 or 3 anymore either. It seems to say I can apply for a “simple” license if this is not going to be a way of earning money…. Normally I would call DVLA and ask them what this is all about but everywhere I look they have notices saying not to contact them because of COVID. So dear people can anyone else explain what is going on?
  10. If this is Still a live thread, Nick Mead (Tanks-A-Lot) put a post on FaceBook about DVLA examiners and what they will and wont allow. I did speak to him the other day and it is still a very very sore point. He was supplying 432's with a part off road - part on road setup. He did mention he thought other people were still being allowed to provide H-License training. I was one of the people that passed their test on a tracked Argocat, but then managed to get an "old" hand, to let me drive his Scorp round an industrial estate in the way of a conversion, and managed to get a driving experience in a 432 At this point I concede that driving an Argo does little to prepare you for driving a CVRT, 432 etc
  11. When i first started driving, I lost my first road wheel doing a "tight" left turn, shortly followed by the rubber from the left hand middle wheel parting company. It was the first time i had driven it more than 20 yards, Wheel replaced Thanks to Chris. Next time was doing a tight turn in a car park and lost the middle wheel from the opposite side but the rubber was completely shredded this time. Another wheel fitted , Chris again to thank. My wheels are mainly old and not in good condition, which i don't think helped , but taking it easier on the turns i have not lost anymore. On the down side I was talking to someone who knows a lot more than i do about military vehicles in general and he was saying that he loses wheel rubbers regularly, so I didn't feel so bad. I also found that someone is getting CVRT wheels re "rubbered" with a new substance and reckons there so much better he has got his 432's done the same way and has yet to have a failure.
  12. When i said i don't feel the washers slowing the movement down, I mean i can move the piston in and out, with ease, off the the vehicle without any problem. Where as the cooling fan which has the same type of washers in I can feel the washers take up the strain
  13. I have found that the piston can get stuck unless i rotate the piston, which frees it but i don't feel the washers slowing the piston at all either, which is why i wanted to take mine apart
  14. I was more meaning that a call to DVLA to find out what they would call it might be the short cut, cause the Spartan is also a private heavy goods vehicle. I did submit the form with a few errors and the lady who dealt with it was kind enough to send it back with all the boxes correctly filled in telling me what documentation I had omitted.
  15. I dont know when you registered yours but on DVLA advice in 2018 I registered my spartan as a Crawler, I also advise another person in June last year and they had there 2 CVRT's registered as Crawlers to. I would say if in doubt call DVLA but not sure how many staff are actually manning the phones. And of Course things change all the time with DVLA requirements so I may be talking out of my hat Lance
  16. folowing on from your post "Excess Friction" as some one who does not have access to any other CVRT , readly, for comparison, how do i know what excess friction is? I am guessing it wont "freewheel" but how do i tell?
  17. The manual turned up today, thanks to Diana for the pointer, it helped me no end and my spare carb is back together and looks complete... now to strip it down and use the gasket kit. Another big thanks to Diana for the pointer about leaving the engine idling when hot to cool. I have recently been through and topped up all the hubs and idlers, but after your post I am going to drain and refill to be sure... now I know the gearbox should be omd90 but semi synthetic or fully synthetic in the hubs or idlers?
  18. I have had several chats about cooling. I have been told I am missing some plates in the bulkhead so they are down of my to do list. I am also thinking of putting an electric fan on the inside of the engine louvres for running on a hot day (On my 3rd set of to do list) but this post was more about the carburettor and some pictures, as I started to remove parts without sufficient pictures. I have now rebuilt it and looks good, but I will be stripping it again as I purchased a gasket kit, but thought this time I would take pictures and wait for the manual to arrive.
  19. Hi Diana and Jackie, I have ordered the manual thanks, sometimes it is unclear which one you need and I am getting quite a collection
  20. CVRT/J60 Carburettor, I am stripping one down and forgot ( I got too excited and didn't record a picture from every angle. Has anyone got one they can take 6 pictures of, every side, up and down. Also can point in the direction of the right manual that might contain the parts list and diagrams of the carb. Cheers Lance
  21. Selling for a friend Due to a purchase of a bigger tent these 2 have become available dims 9' long x 7' wide x 6'3" at the ridge - Told its a 4 man tent but more like 2 man if you both have cots and want to get in and out of it. Each has 1 Canvas 4 x 3 Peice Poles - guy ropes and pegs in a kit style bag They do not have storm straps 1 is described as "very" good and is almost like new £175 2 is described as good has been used a little more as it is easier to erect as the material is not as stiff £160 Should you want to know what they are like a search on "7ft x 9ft ridge tent" will show you may do a deal for the pair £300
  22. Thank you Diana and Jackie, someone did suggest that to me. Sirhc, I have the item on the left and have seen the item On the right place in a picture.. not sure l see how they actually fit together, or it to the periscope but I am sure I will see one complete and fitted on my travels
  23. Well after going across to my Spartan for lots of other things and despite getting distracted by various people I have actuallty found the wiring loom for the cupola and sure enough there is a plug in the right position to plug in to the 3 pin socket on the periscope, and now thanks to Andy we know what that plug might be used for other than just a place where lots of wires get joined together. Another step forward.
  24. Thank you Richard, I do have that one unfortunatly there is no part numbers on the diagram and i have already made the mistake of the wrong connector Hopefully if the weather is better i will take another look at the existing wiring and see what i can see
  25. So power goes in the 3 pin socket on the other side of the scope? and if so do you know which pin is live and which is earth?
