  1. :rofl:Fantastic. Let me know what happens. This could be very entertaining. I was not too sure about leaving my phone number so gave one for Everest Double Glazing instead. Tim (too)
  2. Well done everyone. It is of course a B17 - Yankee Lady and the photos were taken over Illinois USA. Here are a few more photos for your enjoyment: http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/Greatwartruck/BOMBERB17RIDE83107104.jpg[/img] http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/Greatwartruck/BOMBERB17RIDE83107073.jpg[/img] http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/Greatwartruck/BOMBERB17RIDE83107058.jpg[/img]
  3. I think that we should bombard the seller with inane questions. here was mine: I am quite interested in this Jeep, but i see from the photo that it is left hand drive, do you think that it has been converted from right hand drive after the rebuild?
  4. My cousin just sent me this photo that he took while out for a ride in the country. Today's question is, what is he riding in? A bonus point is available if you can identify the location. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/Greatwartruck/BOMBERB17RIDE83107117.jpg[/img] Tim (too)
  5. Excellent idea. Will send you PM. Tim (too)
  6. I have just finished reading “The Armoured Autocar in Canadian Service” by Cameron Pulsifier. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/Greatwartruck/DSCN0008.jpg[/img] This is an excellent book telling the marvelous story of how the purchase of 20 Autocars was funded by private subscription and how “Automobile Machine Gun Brigade #1” was formed. As some of you already know, 8 of these Autocars were armoured and provided with two machine guns and used to devastating effect against the Germans during their offensive of March 1917. Four of the armoured Autocars survived the war of which one still exists at the Canadian War Museum. The book is only 24 pages long, but has a great number of photos and tells a remarkable story about WW1 Motor Transport (not that I am biased in that particular field in anyway). http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/Greatwartruck/DSCN0009.jpg[/img] Service Publications also do a great deal of other books on Canadian military vehicles and history on topics that are not usually covered. For example Kangaroo, Ram tank, Canadian Jeeps, Engineer assault boats, Land Matress and there are many other interesting titles in the pipe line such as Bailey Bridges and Canadian Motorcycles. They cost less than 10 Canadian dollars which is very reasonable I think. They are also currently selling a CD ROM with 1,000 images of CMP, AFV and carriers being constructed. Further info can be found at the website http://www.servicepub.com/ Tim (too)
  7. It look's like it has just come off the TV series "The Prisoner" Tim (too)
  8. Just heard about this. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/6996734.stm Anybody know what it was. Tim
  9. I was wondering that. I didn't want to mention it in case the wife became aware and insist that i put the computer outside. Tim (too)
  10. I agree, mostly High speed tractors, with one Sherman. I think that the other ones with 5 road wheels were M113 family. I do not believe that anybody would trash a good tank to do that. More likely that it is the chassis and good running gear from one that has been used in construction or lumber haulage and of which little remains. Things like that turn up on E Bay quite regularly. Dont think of them as ruined, think of them as saved until a restorer can get his hands on it and do a proper restoration job. Tim (too)
  11. Hi Adam You are quite right. During the war all of the Leyland trucks were referred to as "Heavy Tenders". The term RAF Leyland was not really applied until the end of the war when they were all rebuilt at the Leyland factory. Very interesting article that. I will study that in detail later on. Thanks Tim (too)
  12. The K Seal blurb says it works with antifreeze. In fact i even added it with new anti freeze. We will see what happens. Our WW1 Autocar engine had at some stage suffered severe frost damage, however its previous owner had soldered it all back together again. He had done a superb job and it was not obvious until the thing had been taken apart. Tim (too)
  13. Well, i have drained and then flushed the engine and rad several times and tried the Kalimex K Seal. I have taken it for two long blasts in the country and there is minimal emuslification. Before the K seal was administered the dip stick would be full of what appeared to be mayonaise and now i just had a small amount of white residue inside the dip stick cap and I suspect that was caused by the water leaking into the engine before the kalimex had taken effect. My next plan is to drain all the oil out again, put in new oil and take it for another long drive and see what happens. And there was me contemplating a new engine or an engine rebuild and it seems to have been fixed with an £7 bottle of K Seal! Thanks Kewelde. I will buy you a pint next time i see you. Tim (too)
  14. As the nights are drawing in (sorry, but it is true), i thought that i should put new antifreeze in the Jeep. Now, i understand that there are two types of antifreeze (i have not got the technical name to hand but one is blue and the other pink). I also understand that the blue stuff is what i need in my Jeep. I also understand that it is not a good thing to mix two manufacturers different antifreezes although they are the same chemical. Why is this? Thanks Tim (too) :rtfm:
  15. Outstanding pictures. I was intending to come this year but had another engagment but will definitely come next year. Tim (too)
  16. Outstanding. Loveley to see such nice pictures. Tim (too)
  17. Waahayyy!! I got one right!!!
  18. OK, here is a guess. German 1930's. Or were any other nations using 37mm AT guns at that time. Tim (too)
  19. Yes we know Mike very well. He put us onto the Dennis diff which was very good of him. He has some fantastic early Leyland busses which really are quite something. He also has a WW1 RAF Leyland to restore which would be really nice to see. In fact i think that he is coming down to Devon in a couple of weeks to see the trucks. All the best Tim (too)
  20. The more i look at it the more i think it is a Dodge, but there is very little to go on. If we can wait a few weeks a will be looking at a 1916 Dodge and will take a comparisson photo for you. Quite right about Dodges being used by the Yanks in Mexico. I am just writing an article on the Punitive Mexican expedition for a future MMI. Got lots of nice photos for it so I hope everyone finds it interesting. Tim (too)
  21. Brilliant idea! It will stop me from stumbling on to the more unsavory sites on Youtube. Tim (too)
  22. Thanks Tony I have got the K Seal now and will give that a go. Failing that i think i will try your suggestion. Thanks again Tim (too)
  23. Well done Jack. You will want to buy one soon. Incidentally i know where there is a WW1 Liberty B for sale. Take a look at http://www.imageevent.com/oldjeeps and scroll down past all the Jeeps, Dodges and Internationals that have been pulled out of barns and are up for sale, as i am sure that no one is interested in those and you will find a Liberty for sale. A snip at £3,000! OK it needs a new exhaust pipe and steering wheel, but it is mostly all there. Actually there are loads of interesting and unusual WW2 US trucks for sale on that link. Well worth a look. You cant cut and paste the pictures though as the vendor has deactivated the right click, although he will sell the pictures to you! Enjoy Tim (too)
  24. The 50 cal ring mount was an indication that a Ben Hur would be following. He is on the slippery slope. Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise. If Jack has a twin sister i bet she has a lot of shoes and bags. Tim (too)
