  1. Look here and just who do you find a bit boring & windy? No Champ Camp! well I'm not going to avoid a show because there is no Shorland Camp, so that'll mean no Champs at all then if you lot only come out if you can all stick together? Evesham? What the Evesham this weekend or the one at the end of the season? I'm going to the one this weekend but only with Wolf, I suppose I'll have to put up with the "Is it a real Wolf or a repro?" But better than "Is it home made?" or "Does it float?"
  2. GE you were the only consistent contender & did well to get 10 out of 13. 5, was an incinerator 6, was difficult, it was a meat safe 10, I thought you were going to get there with the "bus shelter" quip, but it was actually a cooking shelter. I had to be careful with 8 as you said I think it was for washing. It was actually a washing-up bench. From my 1935 dictionary the inclusion of "up" defines it as for cooking/eating utensils & indeed the little gutter at the end is a grease trap. All the items were "Accessory buildings for peace training camps" 1936 Anyway GE you did very well.
  3. Or one like this? It ain't for beer though, this is for serious fun & a lot nearer the MVs! The bales of bar furniture are quite versatile, you can fall over without hurting yourself! Perhaps everyone will want one now, maybe a market for Jack there?
  4. Trouble is surely someone can come on & edit me? or can one apply to have it locked? Perhaps only some things might get changed & then the leave a mixture of truth & nonsense which might make it all more believable? I would prefer to put info into something I have control over. But all this takes time as you will see from the slow progress for me to get stuff on here. I am grateful for the skill & forbearance of the webmaster Pat in the USA in getting it set up. But I hope it will be a reliable place to visit. Maybe a Humber one later? http://www.shorlandsite.com/
  5. Oh stop it you are awful! Curiously the Lightweights next to me had perhaps more interest. I think because people used to drive one, would to drive one & perhaps own one. Whereas many people have never seen a Shorland & in many people's eyes is perceived as "home-made" which it ain't! BTW the Shorland & the Pig are the oldest surviving examples of both species.
  6. Well if you look on this link you will see someone thinks mine is between a Mk 1 & a Mk 2, which it ain't! Many errors throughout the whole page eg used by RUC in "late 1960s" is 1958 late 1960s? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humber_Pig I followed the link on the Shorland & surprise, surprise my Shorland is there! At least it is captioned correctly, but there are a number of myths perpetuated in the text. BTW I never did manage to get a picture of your Pig, nice to see a sensible Pig. That must me worth a cold one if you call on me at either show! PS On the Pig page I followed the link to the Humber Hornet, again full of drivel. It makes me sceptical of believing anything I read on these sort of web sites, pathetic. I must go off line & calm down!
  7. Shorland at Kemble & Pig at GDSF. I get more interest in the Shorland as it is overtly something different, but the Pig is generally dismissed as just another Pig - which it ain't!
  8. Yup, but will be a scramble as it is GDSF the next day!
  9. Nothing new here, they knew how to do it right a hundred years ago! But who is in command W&P or HF?
  10. If they were de-activated I think he would be ok, but these were replicas :shake:
  11. The Swiss mule/pony soup kitchen sold for £5000 or was it euros?
  12. Even if the loos were A1, I would still take my own. The effort of getting dressed to make an expedition in the middle of the night, when it might even be raining is just too much to contemplate, especially at my age. Not to mention the sense of reassurance that it is only you who uses the facility.
  13. Steam powered can-can dancers, can't beat it can you? :cool2::cool2:
  14. W&P 2009 But any show will depend on what you take, what you see, who you meet, what you buy & the good old weather!
  15. yes well you should be more careful :-D
  16. GDSF used to have improvised urinals that looked much like those described in 1900 Field Service Regulations. In recent years the enclosures have centrally grouped plastic modules. Instead of staring at the wall, you find you are having to face a fellow user doing the same. For some this can be inhibiting. These installations are not illuminated after dark, so one has to operate to some degree on guesswork. They can be hazardous if they become clogged with fag ends. I know this to my cost once as I was unaware that one was on the point of overflow when I started procedures. It required a rapid exit then hobbling back to base for an extensive body wash & a change of clothes. It rather put a damper on the evenings activities. So even these things are not without their shortcomings.
  17. Perhaps I could add body pierced jewellery - well the visible bits! Saw several WW2 re-enactors at W&P who looked shall I say unconvincing in their portrayal.
  18. But what if he has a deactivated revolver carried in its holster rather than a replica?
  19. Yes Tim it's nice to discover old gems. The trouble is when you get home from a show with a new book to find that you have got it already!
  20. I don't know how MERLIN searches relate to the various ADP systems used over the years VESPER, SALOME, JAMES & now JAMES 2. But ISTR that I got basic information from MERLIN on some Humbers that went into service in the early 1950s.
  21. General principles of vehicle operation & construction. I like seeing how things have developed I have then for 1930s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s & now India WW2. This one covers steam & IC engines. Nice summary of laws effecting transport from The General Turnpike Act 1835 to The Road Vehicles (Registration & Licensing) Regulations 1921. Nice 8-page of historical intro, a couple below. I could bring it to Evesham next weekend or Kemble if you want to browse it.
  22. Neil I've not met your Mrs, but it can be a touchy subject. I did buy mine a less controversial Tshirt, but again its a nightmare. Upset if it's too small to wear, or insulted if you thought she was a larger size. Anyway a few more nice books RASC 1925 I also collect Indian Army publications, printing is often a bit wonky, but worth 2 Annas of anyone's money.
  23. Nearly bought a large Tshirt to bring home marked "I BEAT ANOREXIA"...but thought better of it. But you can't beat some nice fat VAOS oh well maybe you can with some EMERs and not forgetting some CES & Mat Regs from Lee, many thanks.
