  1. Still heard nothing! A shame really as they're the best source of manuals and I've been really chuffed with the stuff I've bought in the past
  2. I went there some years ago and it was a really good museum. They made quite a lot of their Challenger being used in a Dr Who episode (they weren't sure which one!) - sadly, they didn't take into account the 'Dr Who Meister' that is my step daughter - not a clue about MVs (then!) but there's not much she doesn't know about Dr Who - Priceless! The museum website says they've got a MOBAT - can anyone confirm this? Date, Carriage and Breach numbers would be nice too!
  3. My friend Eddie Smith is trying the sort out the Torsion Bar settings on his CVR(T) Scimitar but does not have the EMERS for the correct measurements etc. Does anyone have the relevant part of the EMERs / Workshop Manual they could scan or copy and send to me - I'd cover any costs incurred and he'd be eternally grateful! Thanks
  4. This is my translation of your Scorpion's history! If the Vehicle Data Plate is still fitted in the vehicle, it will have the original reg number and possibly the locations of where the conversion work was done. It's always good to have the original card to work from (the writing can be a bit dodgy sometimes!) but the only thing I think you've missed is the Date in Service (DIS) if it was on the original. The regmients may well have photos of your Scorpion in service Let me know if you need any more help 04 FD 03 (Scorp).doc
  5. The conversion work in 1982 was almost certainly replacing the Larkspur radio system with Clansman
  6. Thanks Guys - they're so good and I was really hoping they're still going strong! Lee - PM sent
  7. I've bought several really good quality copies of MV manuals from Vintage MV Manuals over the years and always been really impressed with their service and willingness to copy items on a 'one off' basis. I've been trying to buy a copy of the MOBAT EMERS from them (show on the website) but I'm getting no reply to my emails. Any ideas? Are they still in business? Sadly they have no phone numbers listed -they seem to connected to Green Machine Surplus
  8. Once you've found the correct Army reg number, give the Library at Bovington a ring and they'll send you the Vehicle History Card (there is a fee for this - £15?). They can email the card to you which saves time and if you post it on here, I'll do my best to translate it for you!
  9. I agree, my best ever Odyssey! Much more relaxed, an altogether better atmosphere! More MVs would be good (there's a lot of room that could be used for static displays) and let's hope the stalls return to the show. Well done to all concerned - a brave move by Chelmsford Militaria which I hope will pay off!
  10. There are loads of radio experts on here who've forgotten more than I will know, but your Saracen would have been fitted with VHF (Very High Frequency) radios - the Larkspur sysyem was in use at that time. Whether this amounted to a 'special fit' or not, I'm not sure which is why I would write to the regiments to ask what they used Saracens for. Alien on here would almost certainly know - he was a cavalryman at that time.
  11. Phew that's a relief - two of the most useful research websites disappeared at the same time! Thanks for the info
  12. Wow, thanks for your help - just what I was looking for! So in fact the 1952 pattern (with botton over fly) and 1960 pattern trousers look reasonably similar - they certainly match the colour of my 1960 pattern jacket pretty well!
  13. This is my translation of your Saracen's Vehicle History Card - sadly the most useful websites for vehicle history have both been off line for months now (BAOR Locations and British Army Units 1945 on), but I think it's accurate. The QRL association which covers both 17th / 21st Lancers and 16th / 5th Lancers may well be able to help you - even if only to tell you what your Saracen was used for! 96 BA 69.doc
  14. I acquired these today at Military Odyssey for what I thought was a bargain £5. They're not the 1960 pattern I thought they were (should have read label properly - doh!) but what is the difference between 1952 and 1960 pattern trousers?
  15. Thanks for all your help chaps - I've now managed to get the MOBAT insured!! Having been told that Footman James wouldn't insure me, I tried a local broker - £400 !! :nut: I then tried Premium Choice (www.premiumchoice.co.uk) who now own Roadsure (thanks Roger!) and even though it wasn't the friendliest customer service I've ever experienced, the guy knew what I was talking about and the quote was £253 for the Champ (fully comp, value £6500, 4500 miles a year, garaged at home) and the MOBAT (value £8000, kept in a locked barn on a farm). Personally I don't think that's too bad!!
  16. I've insured my MVs with Footman James since 2005 and thought it would be easy to add the MOBAT to my policy but they won't insure it!! I tried the 'like a trailer' route, ie just pulled to shows behind the Champ, but they couldn't / wouldn't help. I'm not keen to have ££££s worth of gun uninsured - any ideas?
  17. Yes, that Ferret basket (which had a GPMG mount on it when I first saw it!) was a real bargain at £275!! It was there for several days too!
  18. I had a vintage Beltring and followed Lee's advice and bought any MOBAT stuff I saw: MOBAT round, MOBAT official photo, MOBAT Techincal & Battle Handling Pamplet (bargain!), 1960 pattern smock (my size too!), 1952 - 1958 Green Howards cap badge, british army ties (bargain!) I'm sure someone else snapped up the MOBAT cartridge cases and the two really nice MOBAT round cases, one which had nice 2nd Bn, Coldstream Guards markings on it.
  19. What would have been the chances of this happening without this forum? - well done to all concerned Slightly (?!) off thread, but apparently, when the Panzers arrived in Wales my Dad's Land Rover got tangled up in the convoy (he was on holiday in Pembrokeshire at the time!) and was featured in the news reels of the day - it would be nice to see if the footage still exists!
  20. I don't know about anyone else, Lee, but your photos and comments have positively encouraged me to ignore the 'damp' and come to W&P as usual - one more sleep until we ge there!
  21. Despite my initial concerns, this has been a really helpful thread (as usual!) Champ and car all packed now ready for an early morning departure tomorrow, arriving, as tradition dictates, via the Oakdene Cafe at the bottom of Wrotham Hill!! Met Office forecast looks reasonable now - apart from tomorrow morning when we will be mostly putting up our 9x9!! Here's to another great W&P!!
  22. This is usually one of my favourite threads on here - it really gets me in the mood for W&P - but this is quite worrying. We're looking to go down to Beltring, as usual, next Saturday but it really needs to dry out a lot before then! The whole site is fairly low lying (I remember seeing it in the 1968 floods when I was 4!) and the River Medway forms part of the boundary so it's no surprise that it gets a bit wet, but how wet would it have to be before they cancelled the show?! A massive fingers crossed job for some drier weather this week!!
  23. This was interesting - what we initially thought was an L4 MOBAT with most bits missing is more than likely a rare L7 CONBAT (Converted BAT) with not that many bits missing! The CONBAT was fitted with a .50 Spotting / Ranging gun (as with the WOMBAT) in place of the Bren LMG. A great show - in spite of the weather - thanks to all involved for their hard work. Driving the Champ from Essex to Worcestershire was a trouble free experience and one which I will remember for years!
  24. Rob, Thanks for the info - I suspected the '8 Survivors' was a myth when I found 4 MOBATs in Essex and 2 in Norfolk! As our resident artillery expert (and I know MOBATs aren't really Artillery!), is there any way of finding out more of the history of my MOBAT? Do you know when and how they were disposed of? - you mention Budge and Jacksons, I've also heard that Withams were involved. I'd really appreciate any help you could give me
