  1. Thanks Rob - I suspected they might be hard to find (replicas it is then!) Just one question - how long are they?
  2. I'd like to replicate the Drag Ropes as used on the MOBAT but what did they look like? I assume they're a standard size so does anyone have any photos, dimensions, general descriptions they could post please? Thanks
  3. Or the Majestic (ex Bismark) which we set fire to in the Firth of Clyde in 1939!
  4. Any chance of posting a copy of the MOBAT photo?!
  5. The 1946 issue of the 1944 Pattern Web Equipment Manual says the 'Large' belt has a maximum adjustment of 48 inches!
  6. £2150 + VAT?! Go then, depress me even more by telling me when this photo was taken!
  7. Amended translation with the additional information! 07 EB 85 (Abbot).doc
  8. Richard, Translation attached, as requested! An interesting history - I wasn't aware that any kit ever returned from BATUS and it's also good to see the British Army's habit of carrying out expensive repairs and then selling the vehicle! 07 EB 85 (Abbot).doc
  9. I agree - just mind blowing, especially for those of us who didn't get to see these places. Keep the photos coming Bob!
  10. Oh what I wouldn't give to walk around the field behind the Scorpion!!
  11. I've been trying to research the BAT family for a magazine article or book but there's so little information available. A day spent at the National Archives in Kew this week revealed a couple of reports on blast, trials against a Centurion Mk3 and a surprisingly sensible report from the 'users' in BAOR - they wanted to ditch the heavy BAT shield ASAP! Sadly no production figures, but the MOBATs / CONBATs I've located so far have carriage numbers from 111 to 496.
  12. Rob, Looks nice - but I'm sure you'll make it nicer! It would be good to see pictures of the 'odds and sods'! The carriage number (which bear no relation to dates) is the highest by over 200 - interesting. The MOBATs and CONBATs (or rather their carriages) all seem to date from 1953 or 1954 and so far I've found 17!
  13. I'm quite prepared to be shot down in flames by our missile experts, but I thought it was an Honest John missile and Reo type launcher. 24, 39 and 50 Regiments, RA., all used the Honest John
  14. Thanks Adrian - that's answered the question I was afraid to ask! As matter of interest, when did the engine colour change to light blue?
  15. Yes, coming along nicely and looking superb - well done!!
  16. Rob, As you told me when I bought one, 'you can't beat a BAT'!! - a very worthy addition to your outstanding collection! My list of MOBAT / CONBAT survivors now stands at 16 (I know there are loads more!). If you could see your way to letting me have your MOBAT's carriage number, date and breach number, I'd be very grateful (PM me if you prefer) Is it live?!
  17. For £5 the DVLA will send you all they have on the history of your vehicle since it was first registered. It's a bit hit and miss but it's been very worthwhile for two of the three Champs I've enquired about.
  18. Yes indeed - he must know a lot of retired Army officers! He's got another very nice 1960 Pattern Combat Jacket at the moment with Major's crowns and Army Air Corps wings on it - he had another fairly recently (I think it was a better size though) which went for 'silly' money! As I've now acquired a good pair of 1960 Pattern trousers, if anyone wants the 1952 pattern ones I bought at Detling, let me know - price is the £5 I paid for them plus post.
  19. Look what I found in the August 1963 issue of Soldier magazine- your Ferret at Horse Guards Parade, London! This pre dates your Vehicle History Card and shows that it wasn't just in storage! The occasion was HM the Queen presenting eight new standards to the Household Cavalry (which, at that time, consisted of the Royal Horse Guards and the Life Guards).
  20. At least five new style WMIK Land Rovers (partially armoured) heading south on the M11 just before the junction with the M25 - the drivers wearing a mixture of Army Combat Helmets and civvie motorcycle helmets. I wonder where they were going? They looked really nice!!
  21. Here is the photo I took of the Champ at Evesham - I'm sure there are loads of others about - it was a very good replica!
