  1. My choice would have to be that magic sound of the RR Merlin, nothing like it for bringing a lump to ones throat! Jules
  2. Ted, Thank you, that is very interesting, I really like the fact that I could restore it as an RAF truck. I notice that you list two seperate Transmitter and a Reciever, any idea what these would be ? If RAF would it be the Aircraft R1155 / R1154 as fitted in Bombers. That photo is fantastic, and is the identical body to mine, is that your photo? do youi have anymore of that truck? Look forward to hearing more Jules
  3. THanks Runflat, thats really interesting, It all ties up, but.........................like you said what is a 'Light Warning set'? If it had a Chore Horse Charger (which I have) what would it charge? it must of had a 19 set at least? Can anyone else expland on what was meant by a 'Light Warning Set' Thanks for the info so far guys.
  4. Seriously though, why do most television documentries always make people look stupid and decry the subject of the story? It's like the saying 'We are all guilty until proved innocent' Having just completed many weeks of college lectures and finaly two exams today on the dreaded subject, after that airing of what is really a very worthy cause, I feel I should shrink into the ground. I would be better treated if I were a Traffic Warden! We are here really for everyones health and welfare.....................................honest! Jules
  5. Also any clues on the original colours of this truck, would it have been Dark earth & green? or Dark OD and Black? Any help please? Jules
  6. Who can tell me about the Wartime Light Warning Trucks, I have a Ford WOT2 with what I thought was a wireless rear body, but turns out to be a Light Warning body...................what were they built for? who used them ? and what configuration went inside? anyone have any photos of these in service. I have found one original. Jules
  7. Thanks Guys For all your help, seems it is not timing after all, but bad fuel circulation, either the fuel pump or Carb. Timming is spot on. Cheers Jules
  8. Hi Guys A quick question, Having recently removed the Distributor on my WOT2 V8 ford engine to change Condensor, I have had some running problems. I noted the direction of the rotor arm on removal, the dizzy was moved when off to check points etc. The engine was not turned. I re fitted the Dizzy back onto the off set cam (the only way it fits), and noted that the rotor arm was again pointing down. Started her up, she started but ran almost as if only firing on 4 or so cylinders, I checked each plug was sparking and was. quite strong fumes from engine almost as if firing at different time to valve openings? COULD I HAVE FITTED THE DIZZY 360 degrees out so the fireing order is changed? Any suggestions greatly sort. Jules
  9. Hello Ivor I had a simular weep on my C8, I had a new water cover made and it was perfect, I used gasket sealant when I installed it, however the bolts that bolt it on go right through into the waterway, so water can seep past them, If you are happy with the cover, look for tiny pin holes as they rust from the inside, check that the bolts are tight first, if they are, and it is still weeping, I would remove it, draining water first, refit it with sealant and most importantly dip each bolt thread in sealant as you screw it in. This I did and was fine. I think you can write to the Army records at Deepcut, with the chassis number and they should be able to give you its wartime bonnet number and post war number. Jules
  10. I found the Royal Signals Web site interesting...............but that 19 set group........... seem to list some very nice reading material, but to try and down load it is near impossible ! They want alsorts of detailed info! to much like hard work! Cheers Jules
  11. Nice collection Mike! And I thought I had my work cut out! You are right about the tool boxes, there are different types, not much left of mine. Is that a corner of a Ford WOT2 I see lurking in the last photo? Cheers Jules
  12. Thanks chaps, I will take some photos of what I have. What I really want is some photos/drawings of how all this equipment went in the WW2 15cwt Wireless truck. I have the truck, & all the kit but not sure how/where it all goes? Jules
  13. Thank you for your kind offer John, but I have an original, so I will copy it as a working copy. Jules
  14. Yes Rick the tin work is quite good, as is the original timber back body! Engine will not turn, so complete rebuild there. It came from a scrapyard in Poole in dorset about 18 years ago. I will make a note of the chassis number and do some research. How is your C8 comming on, would like to see some photos. Jules
  15. Hi Tim Perhaps when you have an idea of value, & want to sell you could offer it to our MVT lads, I am sure there would be some takers! Jules
  16. Any one know anything about he 19 sets? I have two, both say W S 19 Mk3, but both are slightly different, one looks older with more switches & brass '19 set' plate, while the other is a lighter grey with fewer dials/swithes and a printed '19 set' . Will take some photos soon. Jules
  17. Here you are, my brand new 1940 Morris CS8............................................ A few days work I think? But, she is mostly there, It is going to be at least next summer before I will get round to starting work as I still have a 1944 C8 to finish.......not to mention the Comet!
  18. Thanks Tony, Yes done the obvious, even put new plugs in today! had to use some quick start yesterday, that got her going, but kept stopping. new plugs in to day and away she went happy as larry......................but tried her again 2 hours later and nothing, just did not want to fire. i have a sneeking thought that it is fuel starvation, have over hauled pump, no problem there, i think it must be the carb. jules
  19. Thanks for all your thoughts, here, I hope are a couple of photos of her, although I am not happy as she is a pig to start! not really used to the choke/start system, when she is going and warm...........lovely, but just will not start on the button no mater how far I push the choke or press the gas pedel! Any advise, perhaps I shoud get a new carb? Anyway hope the pictures work. Jules
  20. Hi Chaps I have just aquired a nice WOT2H Wireless truck, pictures to follow. I really could do with some help on the following points:- 1. It is not registered, nor ever has been, I can not find a chassis number, would this be on a plate somewhere? what/where am I looking for? 2. She doesnt run very well, runs with full choke, makes a strange sucking noise, so sucking in a lot of air even with choke out, when I push choke in, sucking stops but so does engine? today I took off the fuel pump, to clean and check, it was mucky with flakes, I wondered if there was fuel starvation? will refit it tomorrow and see. May be the carb, am I right in thinking that the Solex sucks in air through the side of the carb as well as the Air Filter? 3. Although it has a wireless back body and the guy who I got it from had collected all the kit we are not sure how it goes, ie tables, operators chair wireless set up? Any one any photos of the inside of a 15cwt Wireless truck. Thats all I can think of at the moment! sure there will be more from this rooky owner! Jules
  21. Hi Gary Have you found a replica Vickers K yet? if not PM me I have some very good examples. Jules
  22. Yep, I'll be there, got to sell some of my old tat! Will have some very nice Vickers K guns if anyone want one. Jules
  23. Yes, Thanks guys I agree with all, solid timber boards, not plywood. At that time, 1920's-30's -40's, a lot of pine was used, this was called 'Pitch Pine' not available today though, it was a very close grained timber and used for everything like floorboards, doors, windows in the building trade. I am sure that it was used for the early timber GS rear bodies too. The nearest we can get today is Columbian pine, so this is what I will use. Thanks for your imput. Jules
