  1. :cool2: Hello, everyone! just a short note, by way of introduction....I have been a member of this forum for roughly a week, and am already 'hooked', some very useful stuff, mostly, anyway.....I'm based in Southampton, I have owned, restored and use my saracen on the road, as much as the bank balance allows, which usually is most weekends. Prom time is here, and it's proving to be rather popular!!, If there are any fellow Saracen owners, or prospective owners out there, after tips or solutions to problems, please don't hesitate to drop me a line or two eh!:coffee:
  2. I drove my Saracen 126 miles on a round trip, from Southampton, to Ascot and back, (including cruising at 55mph on the M3!) no real issues, except a few splutters when settling back to lower 'town' speeds, but no breakdowns.....fuel cost not an issue, as I wasn't paying for it! It was fun, on the return journey, vehicles were taking turns to overtake while their occupants took snapshots!
  3. I know it's wrong era... But I'd like to attend this event, do you think they'd turn their noses up at me if I attended in my lovingly restored Saracen? after all it is a classic/vintage vehicle....
  4. I use black mastic, in a cartridge tube, applied with a sealant gun like window fitters use, it's also available from B&Q or your local friendly windscreen fitter may be able to supply it, just squeeze on and hold pads in place with sheet ply of similar dimensions, and wooden props wedged in for roof mounted pads, or black nasty/silver duct tape, for hatches etc, till the stuff dries...... worked ok in my saracen
  5. Saracen Fuel Pump! yep they ARE a bit of a sod to get at, - offside air filter has to come off, ideally, as this will give you more light on the subject. As for removing it, you'll need a shorter spanner than normal, 1/2 " AF, if I recall, which after loosening, you'll get about a flat at a time turning, both nuts all the way off the studs before pump will come away, WORD OF WARNING!!!!!- the pump push rod may fall out into the depths of the engine compartment!, so be ready with your third hand to catch it!. Marcus Glenn, and Champ Spares sell new old stock pump reair kits at about £45, well worth the money, but a fairly head scratching-ly fiddly job! I had the same symptoms as you described, did my pump, and it improved things no end, my old beast has since been clocked at 55mph! If you have any problems, feel free to get in touch!
  6. I do believe it was my Saracen that you saw in/near the New Forest, with 2Div insignia on rear door in January, as it is the ONLY one around these parts that I know of, and I didn't know the occupant of the commander's seat was smoking!... I'll be having words!....:shocked:It is still on the road and gets used regularly.... I am a member of Solent Overlord Executive, known as Oily or Matt, I took it to the Horndean Show, and will possibly be taking it to Southsea on June 6th, this year...:nut:
