arthur.m
(Sorry pic sideways Mod Edit.. pic rotated) We found this mechanical device on a Jimmy cargo bed once, under a pile of snow chains. What could it be? A snow chain tensioner? (Is there such a thing?) Maker: Snyder Jack Inc. Philadelphia. Type deluxe. Serial number 30015. Any thoughts would be appreciated. early british ww2
Not sure but it looks awfully similar to a jack that was one of a pair clamped onto the front of a rare jimmy that had a crane boom on it - This was at Beltring 2 years ago - more a sort of stabiliser leg than a jack?? Richard Farrant
I was going to suggest it was a car jack, the name "deluxe" is not the sort of term used on military equipment normally. Prewar cars had heavy bumper irons on the chassis ends and jacks could be placed under them. The Humber Snipe has a plate welded to the iron to locate a similar jack. Degsy
I agree Richard, we used to have a couple of them kicking about on the farm, they'd come from old cars my in laws had owned. Went to the scrap years ago.
