Jack
In March 1943 Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress named "Peacemaker" force landed near to Langdon Psychiatric Hospital at Dawlish in south Devon after three of her four engines were put out of action by enemy anti-aircraft fire over France. The aircraft was subsequently repaired by the US 8th Air Force Service Command Mobile Repair Unit and a temporary runway prepared by the US 347th Engineer Unit, allowing the aircraft to be flown out and back to its home field. The US 347th Engineer Unit levelled the field surface following the succesful take-off of the aircraft. Great pictures and research. http://worldwar2airfields.fotopic.net/c1586772.html
M5Clive
Another great set of pictures you've discovered Jack! If you can wait until October 10th, I will try and do something along similar lines.
