Tony B
Leafing through an old book and came across this somewhat bizzare piece of kit. According to the blurb, 'Skyhook is an idea for equipping frigates and destroyers with a computer controlled hydraulic arm that will be stabilised no matter how much the ship pitches and rolls'. BAe has done enough research to show the scheme is totally feasible'. Any takers?
GPWdriver
Tony A quick internet search reveals that this system was proposed by BAe and I have seen a photo of a twin stick Harrier under the rig. MoD dropped the project and BAe didn't go any further with it. Reminds me of the 1940's concept for rotary launching fighters from a giant rotating arm.... Tony B
does make you wonder what they were on though. Like the idea of launching aircraft from Airships. The Book is actually named Forces 85 and is a sort of official digest. Saw another copy for salr today.
