Jessie The Jeep Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 Here's a couple of 1/72 scale Taylorcraft Austers I finished late on last year. Auster Mk.V The first is a Mk.V, modified from the AZ Models Mk.III kit. A new flat four cowling was made, upper canopy glazing modified and a wing mounted generator added. A belly fuel tank was also made. This apparently wasn't factory fitted, but a factory produced upgrade that could be fitted during manufacture or at a later date by a certified engineer. I couldn't find any roundels of the correct size for the fuselage side, so had to go slightly oversize on that one. The fullsize example the model was copied from. Auster J/1N This conversion was also from the Mk.III kit. This version used the kit inline engine and cowling, but had a scratch built exhaust. Once again, the canopy was modified, along with the rear decking. It too had a wing mounted generator. Inner wing ribs were sanded down and a fuel tank filler cap added as this aircraft had wing tanks fitted to extend the range. The fullsize Auster J1N Quote
