Lanceng156
Hello all! Does anyone have any photographic proof that 120mm BAT's (Battalion Anti Tank) were deployed with the Task Force during the Suez Crisis at all please? wattie
Found this on RM Museum web site Although the RM Commandos had started to experiment with the new 120mm Battalion Anti-Tank (BAT) gun, the ammunition had not been passed for use in hot climates, so 17pdr weapons and their crews were borrowed from the Somerset Regiment. Difficulties were experienced in waterproofing the towing vehicles. So I suppose other regiments would not have used them for the same reason. skiprat
The Para's ( both regiments ) used the American M40 recoilless rifle. The airborne assault mounted on Willy's Jeeps and the later seaborne assault mounted them on Austin Champs. The RM also used the M40 mounted on turret less Stuart tanks. These recoilless rifles were "borrowed" from the French as the US did not wish to be involved in the action!.
