Iain Crosbie
This contraption is on a Scottish island, near to a lighthouse. Opinion so far considers it may have been used as a fog gun, i.e. to signal to ships in foggy conditions. It may, of course, not be a gun at all, although it certainly looks like one. Can anyone shed any light on it? (Photo by Jamie Shorthouse)
Tony B
Wasn't there a German WW1 Howitzer found dumped under a Scottish wall?

Tony B
Whne was the picture taken?
Iain Crosbie
Haven't heard about the Howitzer I'm afraid. Picture taken two days ago, but not by me, so I haven't seen it myself. It's on a private island, but recovering it might be an interesting exercise, however I'd need to speak to the owners first. Before I do it would be good to know exactly what it is, hence my query. Tony B
My suspicion is that it would be some form of animal portable gun. There are a number of similaritys to a Skoda M15. This was a mountain gun. Edited April 24, 2012 by Tony B
onthecorner
Why don't you try asking on the artillery forum? http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/forumdisplay.php?72-Artillery-amp-Anti-Tank-Weapons
