BillyH
The other day I dug up a cast iron wheel, 65cm diameter, 5 spokes, very heavy. Now does anyone know a web site showing Foundry Casting Marks, from about a hundred years ago. Thanks BillyH
0 ajmac
That really is an impossible question! There were literally 1000's of Foundries just in the UK a hundred years ago and no one is going to have a list of there marks. Your best bet would be to know what it was from, and hope that some festidious chap has researched all the suppliers to the OEM and can thus ID the foundry. I know that virtually all F1 aluminium castings were marked GW or ZAP, that is only 10 years ago and I bet there is no public record of who those foundries are, one has since gone out of business. Tell the forum the mark and perhaps it will ring a bell. Edited November 1, 2011 by ajmac
0 nz2
Let's have a photo and one of the learned people here may be able to identify it.The pre WW11 section here has a number of photos of wheels from old vehicles. This may help. Doug :undecided:
