Higgins kpt.
Hi, like wartime Bedfords, and see(only) in the book info about very rare model from 1940 year, 397 Bedfords ML54 ambulance. there to this time this Bedford Ambulance? there more pictures war or post -war service? or more details? Ambulance box was build on (for me ) unknown chassis ? Thanks for info, Tomas Edited January 6, 2011 by Marmite!! copyright image removed
Degsy
The ML was a 2ton chassis introduced just before the war and was used for trucks, vans and buses. It is likely that a number would have been taken up by the Army from civilian use at the start of the war and would probably subsequently been lost at Dunkirk. If you Google Bedford+ML you will find a number of pictures of civilian restored vehicles. According to Vanderveen the Ambulance body was built by Mann Egerton and was also fitted on Morris 4x2 and 6x4.

Richard Farrant
Is this one? John, I have posted questions up about this ambulance in the past. A Bedford ML front wing was further forward and did not encroach on the bulkhead as a K2 one does, but the ambulance shown here appears to be an Austin but with an OY or MW bonnet, see the side covers, very odd. I have one nice wartime picture from desert, Bedford ML ambulance , but is under copyright, and one more picture is on http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/3329246/Hulton-Archive think is very interesting picture Bedford ML(?) november 1940, think abulance box is on front reduced, but with front inside door(!) and full Bedford cab with roof(!), Tomas
Richard Farrant
think is very interesting picture Bedford ML(?) november 1940, think abulance box is on front reduced, but with front inside door(!) and full Bedford cab with roof(!), Tomas Tomas, That is a good photo. The number puts it as an impressed vehicle / ambulance. It is a prewar WL or WT, that is probably impressed and a Mann Egerton body hurriedly put on the chassis. The front door is in the body as it is intended for an integral cab, like K2 and ML. There is a similar one in Bart Vanderveen's Bedford book.
