blue red blue
hello all, thought i best start a seperate thread for this display at this show. If i can ask people that wish to join this display or are showing an interest in displaying to write up on this thread, what they can bring along to the display (wagon and kit wise) and what they would like to portray in the display. we would like to get a varried amount of kit up there for this dry run at the show, and if all goes well have a cracking display for the 30th anniv in 2012. Then after christmas we can work out how the display should look and pass this on to the tanks, trucks, firepower show bods and see if thats what they want etc. many thanks for your time lads, i know its early to start planning but we would like this one to me done well and a good display put on for every one involved. cheers darren(combined operations British armed forces living history)
antarmike
What is the context of the vehicle display. will it be vehicles only, or as part of a re-enactment. Can I turn up in civvies, if I get a chance to come?
blue red blue
hopefully peoplw eill want to display it as part of a living history display, however this isnt every ones cup of tea, so if wagon owners want to display there wagon but not dress up and take part themselves then thats fine, they can always put there wagon on the display and go off and enjoy the show if they choose. i want to make this as open and enjoyable for all concerned

chevpol
I suppose that the most obvious one is the famous photo of the royal with the flag, could be a mobile scene, a file of marines walking around the site to replicate the picture? A command post set up? Will think of some more over the weekend Mark
blue red blue
great minds think alike, we have a plan todothe Rm with the flag, we have just been told that we can have a s3 109 ambulance with all the gear for a field medic post, and we also have a ffr lightweight, so some kind of dressing post in a 12x12, and a command center with the ffr and 9x9,a couple of fire trenches, and the alvis guys wagons......... blue red blue
just a quick update, spoke to the shows big boss today, seems a top bloke, looks like we can put a wagon or two as static display on the display, also the lynx can be brought down to display as well. a guy that did a mini falklands display this yr will be contacted as well to see if he wants to be involved. we will come upwith a few rough ideals for adisplay over xmas, then i post it upfor the bods who want to go and then you can have you input before i arrange a recce up north and i can then give the big boss a few ideals of what we can all put on. Phil P
Hi Folks. If you can e mail me on hippo1944@hotmail.com I will e mail back entry forms for vehicles and re enactors. Please keep me updated on what you are doing. I am in contact with other groups who also want to put on displays so I need to have imformation from all those who want to display. Areas for dioramas etc will have to be alloted. On the re enactors form is a section for the area required. I know it's a huge field but we want to have co cordinated displays. eg. WWI through to Falklands and Gulf War perhaps in date order on the field. The idea is the visiting public can then follow a history trail. It would be great if various folks want to join together to put on a big display. The Falklands display appears to be a good example of this. If Blue Red Blue would like to organise that display then that would be great. Please stick with us things are moving at a pace. We have had problems with the website but we are resolving it. My e mail address etc is on the MVT events calendar on the MVT web page. The Alvis guys are doing there side setting up the field, pyrotechnics etc and all that that entails and we are organising the vehicles and re enactment groups in conjuction with them but some things are taking a little longer than we anticipated. blue red blue
oh get me im a co ordinater now lol, yep no worries, ive got your event form to fill in.ive a meeting with our group on sunday to work out a rough layout of the display, that will be then put to the other guys who want to join in and then in the new yr sometime we are going up to the show site for a recce. where we can present our ideal, as it stands at the moment the ideal is that from which ever end the public approaches the display they will either walk from the front line, with bunkers etc to the command area, and then to the rear where a red and green life machine will be set up. so if people can confirm what they can bring along to the event and where you would like so slot in please do... cheers for now
Phil P
Hi Blue Red Blue. Can you let me know when you are going to the site as myself and Grumpy along with the Alvis guys can all get together and work it out. As I said the Birmingham MVT are doing the soft skin and re enactor displays and bookings. Andrew and the Alvis guys are doing the on site facilities firepower display etc. If we can all meet up together it saves a lot of what ifs and co. E mail me with your ideas. Phil P
Hi blue red blue. Can you e mail me direct on hippo1944@hotmail.com with your details. I check the website I started but it is purely by chance I thought to check the one you started. I haven't spoken to the Alvis Society for a few days so I'm not sure about their meeting. I am currently organising three other events for next year and so don't always get chance to check other sites. I have been contacted by other re enactment groups direct one of them today which prompted me to check this. ray109 (RIP)
In the Falklands War of 1982 the British Army deployed several hundred Land Rovers to the South Atlantic. These never reached the Falklands as they were transported on the requesitioned merchant ship 'Atlantic Conveyor' which was sunk in an airstrike. the only 2 i know of were 2 x sbs 109,s transported on canberra and i believe Kenny who was at last years show has one of these (allegerdly) the new batch of landys where sent on route but didnt arrive till it was all-over the only other ones were the civvy ones owned and used by the islanders
ray109 (RIP)
maybe you could also contact sama (south atlantic medal assosiation) and get hold of a few of there collecting tins as it would be a nice gesture to be collecting for this charity http://www.sama82.org.uk/
blue red blue
theland rovers on the falklands thing is an interesting one, 2x RM lightweight ffr's did come ashore after the beechhead and were used as re broadcast wagons, never went any further in land due to the mine threat etc. did the marines have any before the invasion?i did find some piccys of the l/w ffr coming ashore, will try and remember where i saw them
