Karoshi
Saw this little snippet in the Daily Mail last week, (Mon July 20th) should be of interest to all re-enactors and history types: During WW1, when their Lordships at the Admiralty were considering forming the unit for women now known as the WRENS, it was their original intention to call it the "Women's Auxiliary Naval Corps'" Someone must have had a hasty word in their collective Lordships ears. 79x100
It seems a bit of a shame to me. I would have thought that a W. A. N. C. aboard would have come in quite handy on a long voyage :-)
AlienFTM
Similarly in the late 1930s there was yet another reorganisation of the TA. The plan was something like to raise TA Battalions of Regular Regiments and number them accordingly. Seaforth Highlanders 1st Territorials absolutely refused to wear SH1T on their shoulder titles.
