Series III GPMG mount

Question

Posted

Hello,

I brought from W&P a GPMG mount to go on the back of the series.

I do not know what the purpose is of 3 items.

Attached a picture of a similar mount and a picture of the items.

Anyone out there who can help me out?

Piet

Just looking at the pic of the bits and trying to figure out what you would need a cocking handle ext for. And wonder if the two bars are steaders for the gpmg mount to extend the hight so it could be used for anti aircraft use you would need a cocking handle for that as the level would then be out of reach.

just a thought.

As an Armourer,I have handled & worked on a lot of these mounts.

The bits left over are nothing do do with this mount.

The cocking handle extention is for internal AFV use & the two tubeular bars are steady bars for the SA80 mount used on the rear bulhead in Landrovers.

OOPS, Forgot about the two Looped brackets.

I dont know what these are for though. they MAY well be for a canvas strap that holds a small row of Ammo boxes inside the vehicle possibly.

100% certain that this is not the case as thet have a different lenght and ends compared to the ones of my SA80 mounts.

Attached detailed pictures of the one end of the rods.

Sorry, but to me it all goes with the mount (same state, same colour,...)

NEVER seen those rods used with this variant mount. Paint colour means nothing. These MAY be for use with another type of vehicle But, not on a Landrover series. I used to work on these mounts in Service. And also later in Defense product manufacturing. NEVER encountered on a L/R, Sorry.
