  1. While most of the people spent newyears day recovering from hangovers the Militant Men set out for a bit of recovery work.

A friend of ours has had a bit of bad luck and the Stalwart and 432 he owns had both been attacked by vandals and needed them moving to a secure location for repairs.

Simon managed to get the Bedford TM stuck just driving onto the site towing Grumpys trailer but it shows just how wet and muddy it was and how heavy the trailer is.

Once he was pulled out to firmer ground we set about getting the Stolly and 432 to a point for loading.

We had a sorry looking flatfooted Stolly...

    and a toasted 432...

The Stolly is drivable and as the tyres are scrap anyway it was decided to drive it as it was . It was fine on the muddy field in straight lines but horrible once it was steered as the rubber moved under the rims and it became a bit unpredicable as to where it was heading next. :schocked:

While messing about with the Stolly he managed to get the fire damaged 432 running and drove that to the other field for loading. The interior has been gutted and you can see heat damage on the outside but it still ran and drove like normal.

As the ground was so soft we had to load on the road and while the 432 still ran we got that on first.

With the Militants crane for a gentle tug she drove on the trailer fine.

It was getting dark once we got back again for the Stolly and due to the flat tyres it was a nightmare to line up and keep it straight onto the trailer. In the end we had to leave it overnight as it was unsafe to carry on. Grumpy and Simon went back today with a spare set of wheels and it loaded fine.

Simon has more pictures to add later and i have put a short clip of the 432 driving on HMVF Tv.

  2. Cheers Richard, We look set to be moving a dead Stolly which we are used to but it currently has 6 flat tires to make things interesting and a fire damaged 432 so Hollebones will be used where we can but its good to know that we can have some steering assistance if needs be. Hope to get some good pictures.

  3. Its currently sitting out side the doors waiting for better weather. The engine and gearbox have been put to one side. The box just needs a good clean and fresh fluids. The engine is going to be given a once over with the sump off and change the head gasket. We are probably going to make up a support frame to work on it. Other jobs have got in the way so its dormant till the new year. Once the running gear is sorted the better weather will be with us and lighter nights so we can clean the hull and paint it, ready for all going back together. We also need to fix the crane on the Militant before we can do any more heavy lifting.

    Jon.

  4. The Jag car engine can be made to work. Pete was running one in his Samson at W&P this year. Some ancilleries are different and breathers but theses can be swapped off the dead lump. The other thing is timing and advance is different but if i remember correctly this can be sorted removing metal from the dizzy body to allow it to be turned more.

    Jon.

  5. Whooo First time i got one right. :-D

I have seen a couple that have had the folding end boards changed to solid ends. They seem to end up on the continent being LHD.

I have a civilian 2a carawagon as a on going project but it keeps getting put on hold as the bigger green stuff eats up more time.

  6. Anyone got any idea what this is and what it was used for?

My boss has bought it for his son to play with.

There is a plate on the side of the controls that says its Helicopter portable but the rest is covered in paint.

  7. We used a couple of different blasters to do a l/r 110 chassis and found they were ok for small areas and tricky corners but tedious and slow for doing the main rails. Now prefer the wire pig tail brushes on a grinder for big areas and the blaster for the nooks where the brush wont fit.

  8. Worth a try it,s just that my mate has changed his tyre size to 900-16 on a series 3 but then found he was 10mph out on his speedo so swopped it for one out of a 101 and now it is spot on.

Could well be a lwb speedo he used as the swb one is for use with 600 and 650x16 tyres and the lwb one is for use with 750x16 tyres. A 101 uses a swb speedo to keep the gearing matched to the drive gear in the transfer box.

  9. It was a Ferret that used to be stored in a shed that i used to play in when i was about 5. Can remember climbing all over this weird car in a gloom of the shed and getting inside the turret which seemed huge in the darkness. Still fancy one now and i wonder what happened to it when the shed got knocked down. :?
