  1. Yes I was looking at that and wondering...................Google, Google but apparently correct.
  2. My dear old dad wore the clutch out on his Bedford van in 2,000 miles from new, the second one didn't last much longer either, slipping the clutch is much easier than changing down isn't it? And why put it in neutral at junctions and lights? Where else can you rest your foot?
  3. Very nice work Jim, there are some things that just have to be left to them that knows. Would it be possible for you to give some indication of the time taken on each area as you post more photos please?
  4. Now you know why I'm Gritineye. :coffee: I have fitted my bell housing upside down (access hole up) to prevent this problem happening.
  5. I have the last type of adjustment, thanks for the info, pm sent.
  6. I think Cap'n Catweazle will like that smoke Andy! Nice clip, shame the steadycam couldn't stand the g forces.:-D
  7. I think it rusts from inside, oil or no oil, yes please a copy of that would be interesting thanks.
  8. Blimey Nick, I suppose every one will expect the disposal details added to the index now! I was talking to a guy who has a Meadows Diesel in his Scammell, he said it is worth having a look at a plate at the back of the block as these can rust out, just a thought.
  9. Just tell her you want something bl##dy big and green, she will say "shouldn't we talk about this?" You say "Nope, I bought it while you were out shopping this afternoon, picking it up tomorrow" There will be a pause, maybe a bit of arm waving and verbal stuff, but then she will remember why she married you, you masterful manly hunk! It worked for me!
  10. My theory was that the weld had more contact that the dogs and I would take a chance on the altering properties thing as I kept the rubber couplings to soften things. I must say many sleepless nights were spent thinking about this problem, but as the shaft was not good because of the wear in the clutch brake area, it could be sacrificed, the sacrifice of a good gearbox input flange was more serious. Just in case anyone reading this doesn't know what scary things I get up to look here: http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?t=7123&page=13
  11. Why are you trying to up load from SMPB Andy? after you have trimmed/edited it, save it to your video folder and upload it from there. By the way this must be the easiest thread to search for, not many mentions of the Beano on here!
  12. Sorry gps, I didn't realize that this was a mark 2 version, and was I concerned that as you are using a propshaft, unlike the solid shaft with longer splines the gear was on in the gearbox, the flexibility of the UJs and engine movement, may cause the gear to wobble on the short contact surfaces of the dog, causing rapid wear. This was why I did my welded mod to get round this potential problem, but no doubt you have a cunning plan to prevent this.
  13. Had a lot of rain your way CW? looks like you've got a high water table now. :-D
  14. At 65 mph the Air horns should be on all the time! :shake: :-D Very good to see how you are doing this clutch shaft bit gps, I cut too much of the gearbox away and made it hard for myself. How is the modified gear held on the shaft dogs? are you cutting a circlip groove inside it? Are you using single or twin pate clutch?
  15. This is exactly why I have no clutch brake fitted to my Cummins in Forceful, it had been already been chewed off when I got it and I never thought I'd need one, but it is almost impossible to get in gear stationary when the box is hot. The damage to the shaft from the gearbox box as found, not very clear because of the shadow, but there is a worn groove round it and the slot is damaged.
  16. Just found this in a book I had forgotten I had, Mechanical training volume 11 general mechanical principles of tracked and wheeled vehicles 1953, a snappy title! clutch brake training.PDF
  17. The amazing end to this day was when we were in the pub last night and I was telling friends about this day out, the landlord was listening with interest. It turns out he is often in Gosport marina on various friends boats and assumed I was talking about being on board that RAF launch, which he had often wondered about, this led to him getting his photo album out and we went on another trip to the Virgin Islands with him, we've known him for years, and didn't know he had this interest, perfic end to a perfic day.
  18. The hovercraft passengers trip benefited from a bit of a swell too.
  19. As it was a bit calm we nipped across in front of a pilot boat just so they would have some fun too, :cool2:
  20. Cap'n CW spots a victim just ripe for some harassment and goading, and a wee bit of showing off! And he doesn't give up easily, but due to an engine problem or maybe a restricting exhaust system his victim ain't playing  We circled him a few times just to make sure but he didn't rise to it.
  21. I agree with that Mike, and I will get one fitted to my L10, especially for the second use, I sometimes have to switch off!
