  1. SAM sorry about RLC but this has happened before the cards seem to have gone a stray between beverley and RLC  the cards where all copied as part of the requirement for registration as a full museum in case of loss in fire or flood and the details recorded and placed on a master list  which was held off site for safe keeping

  2. Having a quick look through the files  first it is SUN ENGINEERING FELTHAM secondly the  PD is not a p it appears quite clearly written else were as TRUCK FIRE FIGHTING FD FOAM Thorneycroft . Also TENDER FIRE CRASH Thorneycroft sent to HMS  HERON YEOVILTON 47 RN 44 /6781 this the first fire engine  with a RN NUMBER. As l said l know nothing about fire engines but the more l look the more l am puzzled  just checked its the one on page 90 of the FVRDE 1962 CATALOGUE

  3. The early floatation trials with the prototype's took place in a flooded quarry the  sea trials took place  in the SOLENT this involved  getting in and out of a LST in what appears to be a rough  sea both empty and with a load once or twice while attempting to get up the ramp the swell sends broadside across it ' It is funny that what appears to be the stand by boat is a DUKW which manages to do the up and down the ramp with no problem

  4.  l just found the vehicle lists for the  1956 and 1962  FVRDE  EXHIBITIONS as you know the picture in both of the fv651 [ A ] is the same  but you may not be aware of its number the salamander was 03 AG 46. As l said a number of stalwarts went to MVEE with only the wing number one that was sent to R A E BEDFORD  from there had wing number 6219  it appears in the ledger at FVRDE without a registration.        As to your PM the video in all is over fifty minutes long and covers the factory floor showing SALADINS been made as well as Salamander  been trailed stalwarts cross  Country as well  in the sea all so the early stalwart prototypes it was transferred from 16mm to vhs  and with the original 16 mm is in storage because of the need to be preserved two part sections were copied   one for dave jenner a

  8. Mark this how it works if a prototype vehicle went under tests it would have one of the following or even two a P prefix a SP NUMBER a service number a civilian number and or ESTABLISHMENT number any of these with this l can start also vehicles  tested at CHRISTCHURCH some times went with none of these only to receive its' identity on return to FVRDE . There are hundreds of items listed in the ledgers in no order or type and in some case's not in date order

  9. l have just checked the history card index which is the list of history cards that were once held at the museum of army transport it lists all the 9K AUSTIN held there up to 2003 these are for the contract number 6/V/7877 registration numbers 29 BG 47 TO  99 BG 46 There was only number 00 BG 01 to                  29 BG 46 allocated to the MORRIS MAR 1 these two vehicle take up the whole of the BG series
