The alternator only produces what I would call a surface charge, basically it keeps the battery topped up, if the battery had discharged enough then the alternator wouldn’t recharge it enough on a run, double check the battery connections and put a voltage meter on the battery when it’s running.

Was the battery actually flat?? Or could there be another fault?? ie a loose connection, one minute it will turn over fine next minute nothing, the weather is starting to get a bit colder, that could also kill a weak battery.

Excellent! You deserve a slice of good fortune 👍
What next, swap the diff or just transplant the entire axle?
I am going for a straight axle replacement, there’s no point dismantling a working unit, I’ve cleaned and flushed it, hopefully get it painted this weekend.

Haven't been on the forum for quite a while, so only just caught up with your trials and tribulations. Certainly can't say you have a boring life!! But what a shame to have a failure like that on your first run out.
Truck does look good, mate, a real credit to your hard work, and most of it done on the driveway at home, not in a fancy workshop. A real well done.
Hope the donor chassis does contain something useful, and you get back on the road soon 🤞
Thanks Rob good to hear from you, it’s definitely been a busy year, hopefully next year I’ll get the wot6 to a few shows.

Trying to place location of that flange?
Any oil in that diff?
I once pulled the back of a 1920s Wolsey chassis out of a field, just some pedals sticking out of the ground. Aluminium transaxle casing was pretty rotten but gears weren’t bad.
That’s the front diff pinion and by the feel of it there’s no outer bearing left.

The strip down has started and at this moment in time I’m not feeling confident 🤔 the truck is in exceptionally poor condition
and now the really bad bits!!
But this was the really low point 🤨 my odds of finding at least one good diff have dramatically dropped….
This could be just one of the reasons it was in a scrap yard

Good luck , you even have a original engine .
Not had a chance to look over the engine yet but there is a rebuild plate.

I have a funny feeling the engine might be stuck 😁

Whatever happened to Nordian (Wally Wheatley) in Ongar, Essex. Used to be good for old Ford commercial bits. The business was taken over a while ago?
best go and check my diff oil level.
Peter
Ah…..🤔….they need oil……😂
Thanks to members on this forum hopefully some parts have been located, I just need to work out how to retrieve them.

While waiting for parts to repair the wot6 rear axle I decided to try and modify a shorter gear-lever, the wot6 gear lever is ridiculously long, you either smack your knuckles on the engine cover, bang your elbow on the back panel or dislocate your shoulder to hit reverse, I didn’t want to cut down the original gear lever just in case it didn’t work so I bought a 7V gear lever which is approximately 8 inches shorter and set about reshaping it.
the 7V lever is a simple curve forward unlike the wot6 which is more of a ? After a bit of trial and error plus a blow torch it started to take shape, the hardest bit was reshaping the reverse gate rod and getting the action smooth, it took a bit of time but works a treat.
Hopefully it will make for a more pleasant driving experience…..eventually 😁

Fingers crossed that something good comes out of it - it seems a very cruel kick in the tender bits for the mechanical problems to take the shine off all the brilliant work you've done so far on the restoration 🤞
“ such is life “ it will get sorted out eventually or just become the first front wheel drive wot6 😁

If it IS the same chap, then there's a contact number for him on their webpage:
