  1. A MWV, Van, 15 cwt. note the canvas tilt is not roped on the sides as the later MWD is.
  2. Hi CW, Sun is shining here at the moment, but still bl**dy cold :-( I think the vehicles have a good covering of red dust, just like you were going through in Africa. The Jeep was painted in a normal olive drab. The trip was in two parts, we left Sydney on the special train on 20th July, the train finally arrived in Alice Springs on 28th July. The convoy run started from Alice Springs on 1st August and arrived in Darwin on 13th August. Final part coming up later. (waiting to hear more from Africa:))
  3. Here are some pictures to go with the last post; 1 & 2. Adelaide River War Cemetery 3. Charlie the Water Buffalo.......star of Crocodile Dundee film 4. Snake Creek Explosive Storage Area, now disused but still standing 5. The Army support team pose for a group photo at Batchelor 6. Some of the convoy vehicles arrive at Howard Springs campsite, the truck behind is a Chevrolet C60X click on pictures to enlarge
  4. Thanks Lee, They look like GMC or Studebaker 6x6 trucks near the front.
  5. Probably going to dump them overboard :-(
  6. The spare looks like an Avon....could be wrong
  7. Don't worry mate. You will fit in just fine, stick with the forum, you will find everyone very helpful
  8. Clive, I agree, having seen responses from them, regarding wartime vehicles.
  9. To access the clutch, engine out is the way to do it.
  10. I note the reins to control it............did it also respond to words like "Whoooaaa"........or "Gideup" :-D
  11. Oh thank you Clive : hope that desicrated frog is not the prize :shake:
  12. I cannot think of anything else, will just have to be content with the 2 points, thank you, Clive.
  13. You misunderstand.....when I refer to Wartime, I mean 1939 to 1945, sorry, that period is one of my main interests. So, that design of sign, was used by an Inf. Div. during that period.:
  14. and the Austin K9 GS just disappearing out the bottom of the picture
  15. Front of wings does not look right, you appear to have blacked something out on both sides as well, bridge plate is normally higher,, is the horn normally on top of the wing? Only going on memory, not checked against yours. As for the 3rd Div sign, during wartime it denoted Infantry Div. ( that is for Alien :-D) and........I was working this morning........office work :
  16. Clive, The reg number with BB does not look right for a Humber and the div sign, which is 3rd Infantry Div. appears to be upside down...........are these things you have been "tinkering" with?
  17. That might be a Bedford, think the model was a VAL. They were a common twin steer coach chassis.
  18. Hey Jack, join the MVT, you will get your very own copy then
  19. Clive, what is that looped down below the head lights, looks like a pipe perhaps? Do not recollect it on other Humbers .
  20. All a bit odd, would have thought we would have pulled out of N. Africa by then and that uniform is not normal for that climate. Looked up RASC history, list some units, but not that one, will keep looking.
  21. Sean, You will have to let me know your secret ........or is the tank that attracts them? Richard (your neighbour at Beltring)
  22. Lee, I am assuming he was in Germany by that time. His unit might have been linked to US Ninth Army at that time, but it is the only clue I can find. Those ambulances are in a very light paint colour for NW Europe, unless it is strong sunlight on them and trick of the camera.
  23. I think this refers to the US Ninth Army.........do you know the location of HQ Ninth Army Camp, Lee? Towards the end of the war, Monty had control of this army as I understand it, so that is the closest link I can come up with.
  24. Ashley, That photo is taken outside Pearsons in Liverpool. They de-crated and assembled vehicles for US and British government during the war and overhauled vehicles. The photo has been discussed along with others, on Maple Leaf Up forum in the past, it shows a whole range of different vehicles there and might have been a posed shot.
