  2. Hi Logged on automatically this morning to HMVF and the above site came up. Logged on again from my favourites list, same thing happened. Is this new site trying to muscle in on membership list ? Suspicious ! regards
  3. 4 years ago I bought 5 litres of canvas paint from a well known supplier. Ad said waterproofs correct shade etc. etc. Big mistake. Applied it to my 9x9 which really was OK but thought I was being clever in sprucing it up. Paint looked like vehicle paint, smelt like vehicle paint, went on like something from Tate & Lyle and was nothing like the correct shade. Result I have a rigid 9x9 which does n't require a frame. Weighs probably in the region of 3 times MOD spec weight. And won't even fit into a 12 x 12 canvas holdall. Supplier still swears its the right product and still is advertising. Moral don't waterproof unless absolutely necessary or if you have to, visit a builders merchant and purchase one of the propriety clear waterproofing solutions. Cheaper and more effective.
  4. Thanks for all replies. regards
  5. Grateful if someone could advise on UK towing regs. I have a 7.5 tons gross trailer which would indicate to me that if the trailer itself weighs in at aprox. 2 tons the payload is 5.5 tons. However the confusion arises in the regs for the tow vehicle. In theory one could tow the trailer with a "Blazer" and a suitably large engine. But I believe there is a regulation laying down the minimum weight of the tow vehicle otherwise the trailer could well dictate the route the towing vehicle takes ! What is this minimum weight as laid down in the regs. and does this in turn mean that one requires an HGV license as the Granny license only allows one a max of 7.5 tonnes. Many thanks in advance for responses. Regards
  6. Hi Tony Is there a min weight for the towing vehicle. i.e. if you were towing a 7.5 tons gross trailer what constitutes a legal tow vehicle, bearing in mind most of us operate on a "granny licence" and not an HGV regards
  7. What I didn't point out in my topic was that the insurance is for my hmv's not my everyday car insurance where the risk and mileage is that much greater.
  8. I think I may be changing my insurer/broker next year. Although happy with their service for the last 4 years, I've noticed the "rip off" factor introducing itself this year. 1) Last month I added another driver to my policy to cover the H&C Pageant. "Oh that will be £20 admin charge Sir!" 2) Today I added another vehicle. "Oh thats another £55 - Oh and £20 admin charge Sir !" So to sum up in the last 6 weeks I've been charged £95 which is not far off my renewal for the year paid in May !!!! And if you are thinking its some obscure outfit - its not. I won't name them to save them embarrassment or more to the point in case their admin fee suddenly takes a hike the next time I call. Like all insurance its prudent to take a roll call every so often. Familiarity does breed contempt.
