  1. Hi Alec Clever design really. Centre of gravity is perfect, so easy to manoeuvre around. I was surprised when I lifted the engine out how heavy it was. You wouldn’t think so pushing it about.
  2. Last few days progress, blasting, priming and top coating all the little nuts, bolts, brackets etc. Now ready to start the rebuild, hopefully get this to rolling chassis over the next few weeks, Unfortunately not many pictures but some of the springs and sub frame going on.
  3. Todays Progress, Parts back from the blaster, push to get everything in primer before a change in weather.
  4. Help needed. I’ve started to look at some of the jobs ive been putting to the back of my mind. One of these is the petrol tank is poor shape. Questions I have…. Any one have a good tank available. Do I have the one I have repaired? Anyone with recommendation as to companies that can do this? Or would it be easer to have a new tank made? Again any recommendations?
  5. Bulk of the last two days has been spent working on the gen trailer chassis getting it prepared for sandblasting. I’ve had to temporarily rebuild some of the engine so I could mount the engine back in the frame while I locate and fit the engine mounts Then lots of welding to get all the frame floor strengthened back as the original. Engine is that heavy it was easer to tip the chassis over and leave the engine on the floor.
  6. This weekends progress…. Marking out then drilling 100s rivet holes. Really not too excited about actually doing the riveting bit! Frames now ready for blasting.
  7. Sundays progress. Trailer wheel arches. Managed to adapt these from a generator trailer. Well rusted in places. So I’ve had to make some repairs. Blasted and primed, bolted on for now till I get round to riveting. An all day event, good job this isn’t an hourly paid thing. I’d be make no money.
  8. Progress update. Had an afternoon of building up wheel hubs with new bearings and tow hitches, which will be used on the gen trailer.
  9. Thanks Clive Very helpful. Regards Richard
  10. Help How do you establish what something is off just using a NATO stock number? I have a good number of these seat bases, just no idea what they are off. The info I have is. Seat cab D111 MTG NATO Stock number, 8 REAB 2540998169520 Tender No HH 134899 Anyone with ideas? Regards Richard
  11. Thanks for the feedback. Trailer shackles. Think this the hot topic for lots of people restoring these trailers. I was lucky, I’ve used two trailer to restore one good one. So had some choice. Lots of heat to prevent them from snapping, fortunately they weren’t worn out. Heat is the critical bit in saving them. The problem with the GS trailers and mortar trailers, they have spent the last 60 years being used and abused by builders/ gardeners etc, simply worn out., Best option maybe to pick up a donor trailer, take of the parts you need and sell on again, come to think of it, that’s how I ended up with this stores trailer. I have deliberated making these in the past. But they will be case hardened, getting this right would be critical to the function. Whether these shackles were used on cars of the period, maybe the little morris. , I’m not sure. ..?
  12. Bit more progress tonight. Trailer now back on its wheels. Hitch greased up and bolted back on. Completed the little bit of welding left on the lockers, trial dry fit. Also managed to pick up a nice original set of canvas mudflaps. Slowly taking shape.
  13. Hi Richard. Absolutely spot on with your instructions above. Years of grease and grime, and remanent bits of sandblasting residue had blocked the holes up, seised the plunges from moving, little screw driver, cloth with some thinners, all cleaned up back functional, I’ve tinned the wires finished off the wiring. New rubbers for the brakes, now ready for physically rolling it back on its feet.
  14. It’s been a few months, to many other distractions. Managed to get a few days in the workshop, thought I would finish off few part completed projects. Lockers for the gen trailer now all fabricated. Just need to drill the frames ready for riveting. Then I can get the tin work cropped out and folded up. Few before and after pictures. Not a lot left of the originals.
  15. Richard, That’s great information, so good enough for the trailer now, I assume the jug would have been used for mixing the filtration powder? Brush used for cleaning the filter after use? For future reference have we any idea on what the wartime kit looks like. From the same source I turned up some enamel jugs, similar size and shape.
  16. Thoughts on these. The chap who I bought them off removed them from a little Bedford water bowser many moons ago. Apparently these were used as part of the filtration kit. Can anyone confirm?
  17. Just re kindle an old thread, I have here No 6 set that I recently acquired. First few images still packed in its original packing case, later pictures sat on pallet for more detailed pictures. Villiers engine, 1943 data plate, Has anyone information how this set was set up? How does the power get to the distribution board?
  18. Thanks everyone, bulbs sourced and fitted. I now have a secondary dilemma. How to connect the wires up to the diff light. I would expect these to solder type, spring loaded, or just simple screw. Am I missing something? Special ferrule?
  19. Thoughts everyone. What is it? WW2? RAF? Sat with a small villiers engine. Air compressor.
  20. Picked a number of these up.. What I think are pallets? But not sure. There are three different sizes in total. All have pressings with dates, 1944, 1945. Can anyone confirm what these were used for? British made? Does anyone else have any of these? Original pictures of them in use?
  21. That makes complete sense, and inadvertently that’s how I’ve wired. In my mind I assumed each light fitting would take one electrical feed to the filament and one to the light bulb holder. Next question… I’ve looked through my extensive box of old car light bulbs. 6v. And not a single small bulb that will fit. Where do I go to find one. And what I’m I technically asking for….?
  22. Some confusion. Diff plate light and rear light….. both take double filament bulbs? Is this correct? Anyone why?
  23. Managed to grab a day on the trailer. New brake rods, fitted, adjusted. Shock absorbers, re-bushed, assembled and fitted. Electrics almost completed. Managed to salvage enough original brass cable cleats off the remains of the other trailers. Really starting to take shape.
