  1. Thanks Richard, that clears up that conundrum. I must admit we were all doing a bit of head scratching.
  2. With a weekend of good weather I’ve managed to get the cabinets stripped back down and painted, now ready for the riveting.
  3. David, Great suggestion. SDS drill isn’t something I’ve considered Obviously little work to adapt. But I can’t see why it wouldn’t work. With regards to rivet length. Is there a specification based on material thickness vs what should should be protruding?
  4. Milestone met……. All the tin work now fabricated and fitted. Next stages, strip all the bins back down, clean off, another few coats of primer, then on with the top coat, I can then start to think about riveting these back together. Any one on this forum that has experience with hot riveting…..? I have the best part of 1500 rivets to fit.. any tricks of the trade.?.
  5. Lex, What a cracking restoration. Fully appreciate the effort you have gone through to bring this back to life. The end result speaks for itself.
  6. Hi Deborah. I think I had contacted few years ago on this saw bench, I hadn’t made the association this was the same one you had. Looks quite complete. Other than been a death trap to be near when it’s running. How does the little JAP engine handle when under load? Have you anymore up to date images you could share? Interested to know what model the JaP engine is, 5 or 6? Is the belt multiple v belts or one flat belt. Regards Richard
  7. Few hours today on the steel work for the gen trailer. Weirdly the grill has been one of them jobs I’ve been looking forward to fabricating. And yes the grill is short compared to the surround before anyone points this out,
  8. I have also been lucky enough to turn up another barn find. Making bike 4
  9. Its been a while since last time I posted on here. Bikes have been progressing nicely. Few pictures of progress.
  10. This wheel was a spare with the saw. Anyone seen markings on the tyres like this. What does it mean? Ideas? I didn’t know whether or not to re-replicate on my trailer.
  11. Started today rebuilding some of the upper panelling for the gen trailer. Few before and after pictures.
  12. Thought I would share a few original images of the 5kv generator trailer. Looks like these little trailers would have been fitted with different power packs.
  13. Managed few hours on the trailer tonight. The fitment of the petter engine has seen some of the frame cut out to allow the crank handle to rotate. I rummaged some steel out the same thickness, a little set to with the grinder and welder. fortunately the left section of the trailer frame was intact so I had a pattern to Fabricated the missing section. Another little job ticked off.
  14. Based of what I was told when I collected the trailer, it was kept indoors up in till 8 years ago, then moved into a wooded area, so I would say a combination of all three probably helped preserve it. There are lots of micro dents in the mudguard, I’m not sure whether to continue trying to dress these out, or apply filler, or just leave as is.
  15. Little bit of progress on the saw bench. Wings and wheels sent in for blasting, really pleased with what came back. Wheels have cleaned up like new, The wings are completely rot free, just few bumps and knocks, most of which have dressed out, Everything primed and top coated. Wheels treated to a new set avons.
  16. Bit of progress over the last few evenings. Thinks turned out better than expected.. Still a little bit of work left to complete. Manly internals on the carb.
  17. Little progress over the last few weeks.. With the fitment of the petter engine, seems they have cut some of the original engine mountings to get the engine to sit low enough in the trailer frame. Fortunately a bulk of the original frame is still there, all be it with a few bits missing. It should repair. They had even left the original welds, so repositioning should be dead straight forward.
  18. Do you have chassis to build off, or is this start from scratch project. I plan on using my stores trailer to put the motorbikes down the middle. (Two in one bike trailer).
  19. Hi Dan I’ll try and help. No not pop rivets, they are round head rivets, that are hot pressed. Currently the locker tinwork is screwed together, temporarily while I ensure everything goes together. Sheet skins are 1.5mm thick, I’ve used zintec, just for the additional protection, and has the added benefit isn’t covered in oil, so painting is easer. Angle iron, from the bottom up, 1 1/4 inches, middle bit 1 inch, top bit 3/4 inch Hope this helps?
  20. Bit more progress on the stores trailer. Just a few shelf’s left to make and fit. Then on to fitting the hinges and doors.
  21. Started to look at restoring some of the smaller parts. One of the jobs I’ve been putting off is the Carb and exhaust manifold. It’s in a very sorry state, getting it apart without cracking was a challenge.
  22. Bit more progress on the trailer. Bins temporarily sat back on now ready for riveting.
