  1. Me too for a tail lamp. My Velo MAF has a repro. Ron
  2. Bless you Chris. 👍 Ron
  3. I have this battery box which is missing its Niphan socket, if anyone has one for sale. Like the one in the second picture.

For anyone else thinking of fitting a solid state regulator. I recommend the DVR2 https://dynamoregulators.com/dvr2.php I gut the innards of the short MCR1 regulator. Cut out the middle part of the fibre board floor, drill a hole in the middle of the metal base, strip the insulating shrink wrap right back and solder the wires onto the already existing terminal posts. It fits nice and snug. Ron

Well that would be good. I'm sure John will be fine with that. Ron

You mean this Lex! Actually it's on loan from John T. and made from the crown of an old piston. I was going to get one cast, but Nick is too expensive. So at the moment I have a new shiny repro. Ron

Good news. My dynamo is charging and DVLA have let me keep the North Ireland number and returned my cheque as there is no charge. Ron

The sizes are as acurate as I could get them with them installed on the forks. Ron

    The best I can get with a Vernier on all three of mine. L= .85" (21.59mm) H= .5" ( 12.7mm) R= .7" (17.78mm) D= .55" (13.97mm) It wont notice if you round the mm up. 22-13-18-14 Ron

I use "WELSEAL" on both sides of the crankcase halfs. Allow to stiffen for 1/2 hour or so before joining. The good thing about Welseal is, it never really sets hard. Ron

I'll measure one in the morning Pawel. Ron

I don't think it matters. If you look at the original samples that Lex posted. Yellow and Red is shown both ways. Ron

That's an interesting bike Lex. I quite like the RAF theme on the tank. Since I invested £120 in the dynamo refurb, I might as well see it through all the way. I do like running lights on my way to the beaches. ☺️ Ron

I've had my DVLA inspection and just waiting for the V5C to come through. The bike is starting and running ok, but It's not charging the battery. Since my dynamo was professionally refurbed, I can only assume that the regulator isn't functioning properly. So I've gutted it and await the new solid state DVR2 that I've ordered. Ron
  15. Something odd there! the frame numbers for contract S6680 are Tl 53418 - 58617 and Engines 63418 - 68617 (5200 bikes) The original order was for 8000 bike but reduced to 5200 as the war was about over by then. There might well have been extra bikes stamped up like your engine. I'd really want to polish the frame number up and study it with a magnifying glass. Is the chassis/frame number stamped on the contract plate? Ron Ron
  16. is it me or is there a mix up with your numbers TL47583 is from contract S5340 and I calculate your census number as C5568083 (same contract as mine) Your engine number seems to fall after the WD sequence of numbers. Can you post pictures of the numbers and any acceptance stampings on the crank case?
  17. You're welcome. I've worked on quite a few RE's over the years and they are one of my favourites. But from an assembly point, I never did really like the left and right hand thread idea for the fork spindles. Ron

Ha Ha. Yes Andy! Don't want it rolling off. It just needs petrol for a start up anytime soon. Ron

I had to crack on and get it finished as the DVLA inspection was planned for yesterday. I'm sort of hoping they will reinstate the Irish number that it was first registered with. I've temporarily installed the rear stand but will be leaving it off once the side stand is adjusted to my liking and spot welded. I don't really trust the clamp on stands without a back up weld, and the correct G3L side stand is a laugh and a half. On the 3rd attempt I've finally got a leak free primary case. My second attempt was one of the "T" section soft rubber items which is now in the bin. Ron
  20. The lower link spacer washers are the same thickness as the damper plates, to keep the links parallel. The dome end on the spindle nut sits in the scallop in the brake plate. Ron
  21. Those are pictures I took Lex, On a visit to Calvin's in Mansfield. I have a series of them. My saddle came from MIchel I think and was natural near cream on a proper metal pan. So I toned it down with some leather oil with some dye in it. Ron
  22. Calvin has his repro rack now. He has restored one maybe two for Kevin Wheatcroft. Ron PS I notice his has the black saddle?
  23. I have 2 or 3 more in the series if you can't find them. Ron
  24. Lex here are some of the pictures of yours that I sent you. For the sake of sanity, I swapped the twist grip wires round on my 741, to give me a right hand throttle. I'm sure this must have been done regularly for our blokes to ride. Ron
  25. Great thread Lex. I'll look forward to seeing this one coming along. I also acquired a BO mask for my 741. NOS in it's box. I keep my Indian ignition and carb spares in it. BTW "741, of which millions were made"........I've told you 10 million times "DO NOT EXAGERATE"😄 Ron
