  1. Whilst I have great respect for Tony Sudds what was acceptable 60 plus years ago and what is acceptable today particularly with regard to lighting are two very different things. The discussion was also about GMC trucks, not Jeeps and they are two very different vehicles, we have converted our GMC but not the Jeep although we have seriously considered it from the lighting point of view.

  2. Hi Jack

You will go and ask these awkward questions when you know perfectly well what my memory errrr what was the question :?

The alternator is off a Mk4 Escort, it's a Bosch one with a split pulley so youcan put a spacer in the middle and use the same fan belt, move the adjuster bracket on the water pump bolts and i seem to remember reshaping it slightly. I took the feed from the alternator to the input terminal on the original regulator and then took the feed from the same terminal having discarded the original dynamo wires. The rest of the wiring can be left untouched so keeping a fairly original look. You will need a small warning light to fit in the dash, a new battery, coil, and bulbs. You will also need to drop the voltage on the fuel tank sender unit and gauge to 6 volts, keep it disconnected until you are sure of the voltage, I didn,t and b------d it up :oops. As we've discussed before the starter should be ok, I know people who have used them at 12volts for years with no problems. Thats all I can think of at the moment but if I've forgotten something I'll be happy for anybody to remind me.

It is well worth doing Jack and you will find a huge difference, we certainly did.

    Regards

  3. A real mans truck Jack, the best winching vehicle ever made and their pulling capacity is awesome. The main drawback is the slow roadspeed, even with the higher ratio final drives that some were fitted with you would do well to attain 30mph.

  4. Looking at this situation as a neutral as I don't go to Beltring it seems to me that there appears to be a general lack of control, the size of the event is irrelevant, you must have the required no of marshalls/security and they must have the power to deal with the rule breakers ie serious offenders removed from site and blacklisted in future. I fail to understand why quads etc are even allowed on site because if there was a serious incident the repercussions re Insurance and Health and Safety could be catastrophic for the show, and yes before you ask I have been involved with the organisation of large shows.

  5. Daren you shouldn't have too many problems with MT's in the wet, I have used them on a Range Rover and a Defender with no trouble at all, it's when you use a very aggressive cross ply such as Firestone SAT or General SAG that you have to take care.

  6. I have finally managed to make contact with the female officer who is dealing with things, she has been off duty since thursday so little has been done. She has told me that it took 3 days for forensics to collect some evidence that was thrown from the vehicle and the cameras were checked on the A55 but nothing seen, there were apparently too many other vehicles on the road at 2am! Needless to say I am just slightly p----d off.

  7. Yes but they have already told me that the accessories and contents, (mostly tools and offroading equipment) worth several thousand pounds are not covered.

I am having to sell my military vehicles as a result.

  8. Coles ued the 6 wheel Matador chassis for a similar crane in the fifties. I have been told by a guy who used them in service that some were built using the Matador chassis and some on a much heavier Coles chassis, one of the Coles chassis type was in use at the old RAF Llanbedr until last year when QINETIC closed down operations. It was used as back up to a modern crane which used to get stuck whenever it left the runways, they were used for recovering drones which are now obsolete.
