  1. Does anyone know if the DVLA gives out all previous owner details?
  2. Thanks for that. According to the one remaining data plate in cab, and checking the chassis number on a Landrover website, it is a left hooker export model. Well, it's a right hooker last time I looked!
  3. Hi people. I am trying to trace the history of my Lightweight Landrover JRN 782S. Any of the 7 previous owners here? Thanks, George
  4. How do you post photos on here?
  5. Update. Thought I would buy the relay from Craddocks and ordered next day delivery (Friday) with Parcel Force. Here we are on Saturday and still no Relay and Parcel force have no knowledge of it. For anyone interested the part number for the Hella Military aluminium Relay box is 579373. I guess you could say I'm a little bit peed off! Moan over. George
  6. Thanks Ivor. P.A. Blanchards sell them for £46.50 ex VAT and postage. Craddocks sell them for £40 all in. Will check out that e-bay seller. Thanks again. George
  7. Hi Ivor. I couldn't be 100% sure its the relay due to being an electrical thicko but I would guess this is the problem. So how much is a new military relay and who was your stockist? I was going to cut the old one off tonight before the rain started but I noticed it had 5 wires plus an earth wire (my "spare" relay only has 5 points). I only have two weeks before the MOT so I need it sorted now. Anyone got a spare for sale? George
  8. Update. I'm pretty sure it could be the Hella TBB20 relay box. I can hear it "clunking" when I put the indicators on and it "clunks" when I turn the hazard switch off (no sound when I turn it on). Are these Hella relays easy to buy or would a normal relay do the job? Yes I know I would have to change the wiring to spade connections.
  9. Thanks for the help lads! A wiring diagram would be much appreciated. I'll check the system over again today so don't go anywhere!
  10. Hi Tony. I've just checked behind the panel and there is one fuse which is okay. I have also checked the fuses on the steering column and they are okay too. Checking behind the gauge panel, I noticed the Infra red switch, panel light switch and test switch without wires attached. It's a mess behind there mate, with all the additional wire work! None of that appears to connect to the problem switch though. The Rotary switch possibly has had some work on it as the tail and side lights work when it is set onto "T" for tail only. As this vehicle has had trailer lights fitted and "Blues and Two's" wired in (now removed), would they have touched the hazard switch for some reason? I'm lost.
  11. Hi guys. I need some help with a lighting problem with my newly aquired Lightweight Land Rover. Nothing happens when I turn on the hazard lights except I hear a click noise when I turn it off again. It also stops the indicators working so ther is something happening. There has been some rewire work done by a previous owner so that some wires have been joined to non colour matching wires. Saying that, the wires to the hazard switch (8 in all I think) haven't been disturbed at the dashboard side. There is that military Hella TBB20 relay box still in place. Do the lighting wires go through there? As you may have guessed,I know know nothing about auto electrics! Could the hazard switch be by-passed with something else? Anyone know a good Auto Electrician on Tyneside? Thanks, George
  12. For your attention. I've just had someone called raymondpat88@yahoo.co.uk offering to buy my jeep for the advertised price (£8500) and he will send me a cheque for £12,000. Yes you've guessed it, I would send a cheque for the remainder to him to cover the shipping costs. I've sent a message to Yahoo about him. George
  13. Hi guys. Just to let you know that I have my jeep for sale in the classifieds if you know of anyone interested in a M201 in it's original format. Cheers, George
  14. Hi Gary. What about Willie Bone (WHB Jeeps) just south of Ayr? An hours run? George
  15. Hi all, just to let you jeep owners know that I have some jeep books for sale in the classified section. Thanks, George.
  16. Hi Mark, just sent you some data/photos of maintenance trucks that might be of interest. George
  17. A newly discovered stamping on the bulkhead/firewall has got me puzzled. I know what all the others body/chassis numbers mean, but I found one behind the horn that has me stumped. It is 'R52'. I've checked Andy Carter's website, and others without success. Any ideas anyone?
  18. Steve, are you mad ? :-o I've got a M201 sitting out front that needs rubbed down and painted. The missus won't have the book in the house for more than 5 minutes as it stinks of old age. If any of you lot live near Tyne & Wear, go to the Sunday market at Tynemouth Metro station. There is a guy there selling all sorts of books on WW2 MV's.
  19. It's sent Mark. Any good to you ?
  20. Hi Mark, I've got it. I don't know how to put it on the Forum, but if you PM me, I can e-mail it to you that way. Just one pint?
  21. Hi Guys. I found a 1970's book, "U.S. Military Vehicles World War 2" today at a car boot sale. It covers everything from pedal bikes to Dozers to armoured trailers. There's a lot of vehicles I've never seen before. It shows a photo and some history with technical data. I'm sure some of you will have this, but if anybody needs a scanned page, you only have to ask.
  22. Thanks Rambo1969, another option for me :-) Update on the Crown paint Rep. He checked it out with a couple of paint manufacturers and the word back is ....IT DOESN'T EXIST! The word back to me is that anyone that could invent it, would make a fortune as anyone could change the finish to suit themselves and paint makers could lose a fortune !! Maybe Crown and International don't know about it :dunno:  I'll go with Tugger (not in the biblical sense) Anyway, today I painted two sample strips, 1 that I rolled over with a dry roller after it started to go off and the other with talc added. The "roll over" didn't look too good but the Talc version did! I had to use a lot of talc to a pint of paint to get the effect and it was quick drying! What talc to paint ratio would you lot use?
  23. Thanks for that info Tugger. Hello again Dick. A mate is meeting with a Crown paints Rep tomorrow so he might have some info for me. I'll let you know if he can be any help. I'm going to try something Steve Carr and I discussed the other night. I'll paint a bit, then when it is starting to go "off", I'll go over it with a semi dry roller. I know when I've put a finger on a wet gloss door, that part loses it's gloss. Worth a try at least ! :?
  24. Thanks Clive. I'll check out availability of the Calcium Carbonate. I might have to bite the bullet and just buy some new paint. Message for John Wheatley. John, the paint came from a 'friend of a friend' in York. I believe the lad has a pallet full that he bought from a disposal sale. The tins were very rusty and unstable.
  25. Thanks Clive. My god, that thread sobered me up ! I'll read it again tomorrow when my head's clear. Steve Carr (Jessie the jeep) first told me about matting agents, and I talked to someone at 'International Paints' who said no matting agents were available (guess I talked to the wrong guy). I then asked another person at 'Tor coatings' (Hammerite makers), but they wouldn't sell it to me. I'll start looking further afield. Looking forward to what you can find out. Thanks, George
