Many thanks everyone. How long does it take to darken? Is this where you say "How long is a piece of string"? I've just looked on the Park Royal website, dedicated to GG's and they say the paint is BS224.

Gents, look at mine even though the paint is new and compare it against this older Landrover. Yes there is an age difference but the older models paint is darker.

285 would appear right. I've added a couple of photos of older vehicles which look like the colour I like. Is this the 285?

My 1972 Lightweight is painted Deep Bronze Green, the way it was when it left the factory. I have seen other old Landrovers painted a darker green that looks like British Racing Green. A contact on a Landrover forum has told me that MOD green was used too. Does anyone know it's correct colour title or a similar "civvy" equivalent and where I could get it? George

I am trying to trace which units my Lightweight 52 FL 08 served with in Germany from 1972 until 1985. I have the B vehicle data card from the RLC museum which tells me which workshops it went to but nothing else. Any info or photos would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, George

It seems that the few "suppliers" that offer Marks book won't commit themselves to saying they have the book in stock. Does anyone have a copy for sale?

Just ordered a copy online from WH Smith for £19, free postage. I'll be taking the Lightweight to Scotland this week. All checks are done, second mortgage taken out for the fuel costs!

Hi Sean. So mine was built 13th May 72, 4 days into the Series 3 production run. Does the book say how many were built on any given day? Mine went to CAVD Ashford. Mark J Cook's book is hard to get, anyone got one for sale?

Hi Timbo. It appears my Lightweight was an early Series 3 but it still has the fuel switch lever on the bulkhead as Series 2A had.

Does anyone know for sure which month Solihull switched from Series 2A production to Series 3. From the internet I know it was 1972. Thanks, George

In and out of the local DVLA office in about 15 minutes. Showed a very helpful member of staff my documents and heritage certificate. Walked out with a Historic tax disc, a refund form and the offer of a new age related plate (didn't do it then, short of time) whenever I want. I would recommend the cost of a heritage certificate anytime!

Thanks for all the info guys. My chassis has two steering relays. I contacted the DVLA today and they said to post the certificate and the V5 and they would change it to historic tax. I'm still waiting for the Army history from the RLC museum. While I'm here, does anyone know the owner of Lightweight A770 PNA ? I have a display board made by Peter Barrett (a previous owner)for 93KA83 which belongs to this vehicle. It has a full military history and army registration plates (see attached photo). It's sitting in my shed waiting for the owner. It's free to the owner!

This is my latest toy. A series 3 Lightweight. When bought it was in the markings of the Defense Fire Service. I have since learned that these "blues and two's" were an add on by a previous owner. The Landrover came with a display board for 93KA83 so I thought I had it's history. I was wrong. I've talked to a previous owner of 93KA83 who knows that when he sold the LWT to Blanchards, the vehicle was sold on to a lad from Glasgow without the blues etc. The blues and two's were aquired by another LWT owner near York. I bought it from the York lad and removed the lights Which are probably on a jeep by now (hello Brian). Different things about the vehicle made me think it was older that the V5 stated, which states manufactured 1978. It didn't help when people come up to me and ask why a Series 2A is on a "S" reg. So I applied for a heritage certificate which came today after 3 weeks waiting. The certificate states it is a 1972 LHD export model. So now I can apply for historic tax status. At some point it was changed to RHD (Nick Johns gives a good reason for this) George

Hi Nick and thanks for the info. The chassis does not have a number on it due to extensive welding done by a previous owner. The vehicle does have a data plate showing the chassis number on the dash and the V5 shows it too. George

The V5 for my Lightweight Landrover stated that it was manufactured in 1978 and RHD. A few people have looked at it and thought it was an older model even though the headlights were on the wings (I know that later model series 2A's that this modification). I applied for a Heritage certificate which arrived today and it states it was build 13th May 1972 and delivered to the Central Army Depot, Ashchurch 18th May. The certificate also states it was a LHD export model. So at some point it was converted to RHD (would the army do this?) and brought back to the U.K. As it was an export model, would this effect the vehicle getting historic vehicle tax and how would I go about this process? For info. The form to trace ownership is a V888. It can be downloaded from the DVLA website. Yes the info costs a fiver and you have to provide good reasons for requesting previous owner details. George
