  1. Many thanks, Madrat for the link to the photos. They certainly will be a big help. It seems to have the same vertical winch as the Scammel R100. I have already done one so another should be fairly straightforward. A Chassis drawing however would help with location and position so hopefully, Simon will see this and help if he can. I really appreciate your assistance with this and thanks to your good wife for her being a good fellow Canadian. (Actually, I was born in Kent so I'm a transplant here, but a long time one.) Cheers, Neil
  2. Hi Folks, I wish to build a 1/76 scale model of the Leyland Martian Artillery Tractor (FV1103 I believe). I am needing some good views of the chassis showing in particular the winch, fairlead pulleys and rollers and suspension front and rear. Usually, maintainance manuals are good for these views if anyone can provide a scan of any of this. In addition, any views of the cab and crew area would be very welcome. I previously scratch-build an Albion CX22S which is posted in the modelling section of this forum and was featured in an article in the Sept 2011 issue of Military Modelcraft Intn'l. Forum member, Davie Reid was an immense help with photos and information from his restoration of a CX22S. Any help any of you could provide here would be very much appreciated. Cheers, Neil Craig Wyevale, Ontario, Canada
  3. Thanks for the nice comments, Gents....and Tony....to answer your question - good plans, reasonably correct kits to work with, lots of photos, liberable amounts of plastic strip, sheet and rod, brass wire, etc. etc....and the modelling and scratch-building experience my almost 69 years has provided...not to mention, a tolerant and supportive wife. I also have very helpful and supportive members of this Forum and fellow modellers on other sites who are a constant source of inspiration and assistance. Cheers, Neil
  4. Hi Folks, Here is my just completed build of the subject combination. It is a scratchuilt cab on a modified Airfix Matador chassis towing an upgraded Airfix 5.5" Gun. It is based upon an IWM photo of a combination of the 240th Bty - 51st Med Regt RA - 3 Corps based at Ellesmere, Cheshire taken by a Lt. Taylor on July 7, 1941 somewhere is Western Command territory. Cheers, Neil
  5. Excellent conversion and paint work....well done!! Cheers, Neil
  6. Absolutely top-notch modelling and painting. The figures are outstanding.....congratulations! Cheers, Neil
  7. Hi Brian, I thought they were 1/35 and they are truly works of art, especially the figures. These are amongst the best I have seen anywhere....congratulations on your efforts and welcome to the forum. Cheers, Neil
  8. Excellent models! I assume they are 1/35 scale, but are top notch in any scale. Cheers, Neil
  9. Hi Timbo, Yes I do washes after a coat of gloss varnish, then apply transfers, then a coat of flat varnish, then drybrush. Yes, do have a go at the Scammell TT. It's a great little kit and I like to re-do the tires to a proper tread and widen them a little. I want to do the TT version one of these days. Cheers, Neil
  10. Here is my latest, this time utilizing the Matador Models Scammell Pioneer R100 conversion kit for the Airfix Tank Transporter along with Matador's 60 Pdr Gun kit. It is marked up for the 2nd Medium Regt RA - Belgium 1940. Cheers, Neil
  11. Mike Starmer, the expert in British military colours, in his Book "British Army Colour & Disruptive Camouflage in the United Kingdom, France & NW Europe 1936-45" describes gas warning paint as "originally a yellow ochre colour usually about 9 inches or 12 inches across, which changed colour to a bright red in the presence of Mustard Gas......repeated in 1944 orders although by then the bonnet patch and tray may not have been used although by then a less obvious and greener camouflage coloured paste approxiating Khaki Green was in use." Hope this helps. Cheers, Neil
  12. Thanks, Tony...the inspiration came from the "1940" section of the WW2 Talk Forum. I have been doing artillery combinations and have been concentrating of BEF ones lately. Some of the others appear elsewhere in this section. Currently working on another Scammel Pioneer R-100 towing a 60 Pdr of BEF vintage. Thanks, Pzkfw-e for the photo. It shows the pre-war version which was the same tractor and gun I believe, but the earlier #25 limber instead of the #27 used in France. Cheers, Neil
  13. Here is my recently completed 1/76 scale Morris CDSW. It is converted from the Airfix Bofors Tractor and is towing the Bull Models 18/25 Pdr with #27 Limber. It is marked up for 98th Army Field Regt RA, France 1940. Cheers, Neil
  14. Here are some photos of my recently completed Matador with 4.5" Gun. The models are basically OOB (out-of-the-box) with a few minor additions. The tractor is from Milicast and the 4.5 is the 60 Pdr from Matador Models. Cheers, Neil
  15. Thanks for the comments. Yes, it is the Caunter scheme and was used in Egypt in 1940-41. It was well defined with established patterns for each vehicle type. Lots of "fun" to apply to the model and likely even more fun to apply to the actual vehicles. Cheers, Neil
  16. Hi Folks, Here is my just completed Morris Quad combination. It is the Airfix kit, somewhat modified and detailed and represents a unit of the 4 RHA, 7th Support Group, 7th Armd Div in Egypt, 1941. Cheers, Neil Neil
  17. Thanks, Dusty....I certainly do work from scale drawings. The one I had when I built the body was for the Guy FABX but it is basically the same. I eventually got the Retriever one and according the drawing, the body is a bit shorter but I see other photos where it is the longer one. Cheers, Neil
  18. Here are some of my latest conversion efforts. First is an Austin K30 (Airfix conversion from the K2) - 3rd Inf Div HQ RASC (BEF). Second is the Monty's Caravan Leyland (Revell/Matchbox) - 2 Corps GS (BEF). Third is an early Matador (Airfix conversion) with 6" Howitzer (SHQ) of the 79th (Scottish Horse) Med Regt RA in 1941 Hope you like them. Cheers, Neil
  19. Great work, Chris.....love the Sherman. Cheers, Neil
  20. Thanks for the positive comments Schliesser92.......you are probably right about the towing loaded, but I have at least 3 photos showing them being towed loaded and in two of those, the Elevating and Traversing Layers are in their seats. Maybe this was more for parade or show and not in action although one of them, a Canadian Bofors is being towed with crew in position and infantry marching along side....possibly on excercise. Cheers, Neil
  21. Thanks, Tony......I use small tools on small bits of plastic, etc. and having a small mind helps too:D Cheers, Neil
  22. Hi Folks, Here are some photos of my recently completed QLB and Bofors Mk l on a Mk ll Carriage. The QLB is based on the Airfix QLD chassis with a scratcbuilt body and features a detailed interior complete with snatchblock/straps, pick heads and handles, winch and fairlead rollers and pulleys, and 5 Enfield rifles in the racks in the crew compartment. The gun is the excellent Milicast kit with a photo-etch Stiffkey sight added. I hope you like it. Cheers, Neil
  23. Hi Davie, Thanks for the positive comment. I have already started on converting the new Airfix QLD to a QLB and having it tow the Milicast Bofors gun on a Mark ll chassis. I'll post some pics when complete. This may take a little longer as spring yardwork is getting in the way of modelling. Good to hear from you. Cheers, Neil
  24. Thank you all for your nice words and it is 1/76 scale. Cheers, Neil
  25. Thanks for the kind comments, Gents. I'm glad you appreciate my work. Cheers, Neil
